Chapter 490: 490. Boarding luxuriously

The farther ahead on the curve of this dirt road, the more of the landing strip was revealed, together with what just had to follow: a fucking airplane.

A bunch of spotlights not only lightened the small passenger plane and the group of people waiting in front of it but also the whole landing strip, making me feel as if a big fat target were drawn on our backs.

Although the plane was a bit more military style with a bunch of green colors, I had to immediately think of the Maestro’s memories: the planes that had indiscriminately fallen from the sky, like goddamn shooting stars.

My mouth hung open.

Are they serious?

They can’t be serious.

There was no other plane in sight, just a big hangar further at the end of the landing strip; this was clearly not a real airport but a private one.

Ethan eventually slowed the car near my grandmother and the staff sergeant who had walked hurriedly towards us, away from the group that was now behind them.

I opened the door before the car had even stopped completely, and Henry pulled me back to stop me from jumping out directly.

"Have you lost it?" I asked my grandmother through the open door.

"AS IF THIS HAD BEEN MY IDEA!!!" She yelled back before gathering herself, apparently conscious of the bunch of people not that far away.

Henry finally let go of me, and I stepped out with him following.

I glanced behind the old couple, seeing Danny waving at me beside a delicate small blonde middle-aged woman; Jordan also raised his hand in recognition with a nice-looking middle-aged pair behind him whom I knew from pictures and one or two meetings, and Omar nodded at me from a distance with Mrs. Anand and Mr. Lawrence behind him, the latter holding Ren.

When Ren spotted me, he placed his hands against Mr. Lawrence’s face and straightened his arms as if to push him away—signaling in the most obvious way that he wanted to be put down.

"Do you want them to shoot us from the sky?" I asked my grandmother before addressing the staff sergeant beside her.

"The air traffic had been stopped, right? Flying had been banned, hadn’t it?"

In the distance, Mr. Lawrence had good-naturedly set Ren down, and the kid ran to me.

The staff sergeant shook his head.

"Not completely; resources outside this city but inside the country are still delivered and traded."

"But not in this city. Who says they won’t attack a random plane taking off and flying around?" I watched as Ren ran and then squeezed himself between my grandma and the staff sergeant.

I caught the kid and lifted him up, feeling him hug me tightly.

The staff sergeant again shook his head.

"I contacted my former colleagues, and Mr. Lawrence also pulled a few strings. This should be the fastest and most secure way for us to leave."

Sure, a few hours flying instead of a few days by car did indeed sound more enticing.

However... I don’t know.

My grandmother presented her hand to me like a princess that didn’t want to but had to go through a backhand kiss.

"Don’t watch me in the bathroom," she spat.

Ah, so they were not very assured regarding the way of transport either, wanting me to check.

"No way in hell; the risk isn’t worth it." I put Ren down and took the staff sergeant’s arm instead.

Henry, seeing me put the kid down, also reluctantly let go of me, as if he didn’t want to jeopardize the natural law’s wrath by his presence in a vision that could show him as well.

Smart puppy; if I see his future self in a vision while being by myself, it shouldn’t warrant any warning or deliberation, contrary to having his ’past’ self accompany me.

’Show me if we survive this flight without actually showing my future self.’

Black; Future; Eyes and ears uncovered, correct future of the staff sergeant.

I stand in a big empty terminal.

No, not empty; there is my grandmother in the beige blouse with a tacky ribbon around her collar and a black skirt that reaches to the ground—the exact outfit I saw her wearing when she walked to the car just now.

Beside her is Mrs. Anand, who speaks to her, and Ethan; both are also wearing the same clothes they wore in the present, albeit he is holding his jacket in his hand, and the others are also there: Emma, beside Jeyjey. Henrietta, awake and wearing her collar, is holding her stomach next to a tired-looking Dr. Lawrence, both being examined in a row of the empty seats by the old doctor.

Ren looks around while holding Mr. Lawrence’s hand.

Jordan is with Danny and Omar, as well as the blond middle-aged woman and the middle-aged pair.

Patrick and Harry are more to the side, searching for a bathroom with the twins in tow, while Chelsea is examining the landline behind an empty counter.

In a corner I spot Kitty’s tail, so he is here as well.

Coming back, I saw that Mr. Lawrence, Mrs. Anand, and Omar were also coming to us, while the latter motioned for Danny and Jordan to wait.

"Where are we going to land? I saw everyone inside a big empty airport terminal," I asked the staff sergeant while letting go of him.

"An airport just outside the capital city. We are being expected."

Mr. Lawrence arrived at our side and nodded.

"I spoke with a few acquaintances. I am also flying us personally." He held his hand out to me as if for a handshake, showing his sincerity after already knowing that I was something like a prophet.

But he was interrupted by the exotic, very well-shaped woman in a tight-fitting yellow dress that was a step behind him, overtaking her husband and directly giving me a hug.

"The famous Kenny~~" she said in a singsong voice I already knew from my visions.

Woah.

I froze, feeling my neck prickle by the stare I received from my right.

She had a good ’shape’, but naturally not nearly as good as Henry’s.

Instinctively, I raised the arms hanging at my sides into the air to prove to Henry that I had at NO POINT instigated this hug, and neither was I taking advantage of it or enjoying it.

"Mom!" Omar’s voice sounded behind us, and the tight embrace was dissolved.

The tall woman looked down at me with a brilliant smile.

"I’ve heard so much about you~ You really look like your grandma~~" She turned around, and my grandmother took an abrupt step back, as if scared she would also get a hug.

"So shy~" Mrs. Anand chuckled at the old dragon’s movement, and then she was pulled away by Omar.

I speechlessly nodded at her, and after glancing to my side and seeing Henry smile very unsettlingly, I also developed a slight grudge against Mrs. Anand.

Two Howards are on your bad side now, lady.

Mr. Lawrence smiled helplessly, and I was reminded of his prior words.

"You said you would fly, Mr. Lawrence?"

"Yes." He again reached out for me, and I shook his hand, flipping the coin.

This time, no terminal. This time I saw him in a dark skyscraper, looking back and asking Omar, who stepped through the door, where he had been. Omar answered that he had been with the guys.

After coming back, I heard Omar say,

"He was a pilot while in the military and has a license," as if he wanted to prove his father’s abilities.

I hummed and let go of his hand.

My grandmother looked at me questioningly, and I nodded—everything I had seen so far seemed normal, as if taking the flight wasn’t that big of a deal.

Seeing my nod, not the old dragon but Mrs. Anand reacted—by clapping her hands together.

"Alright~ Let’s all go!" She stepped to my grandmother and put an arm around her shoulder.

"Remember the coffee beans I told you about~? I have it on the plane; let’s make ourselves a cup."

She walked her back to the others while the staff sergeant trotted behind them with slumped shoulders.

Ren pulled at my shirt, so I picked him up again, and Henry put an arm on my neck... in a very tight hold.

Ethan had come at some point beside us and walked with us to the plane.

"Kenny!" Danny took a few impatient steps toward us, seeing that the important talk was finished, but as there was no space to get a hug himself, he let his head drop until we came closer.

In the end, he regained his spirits, and while my grandmother, Mrs. Anand, and Mr. Lawrence walked up the stairs to the plane, he introduced me to the delicate woman beside him.

"That’s my mom!"

She was as tall as Danny, with light blonde, chin-length curly hair that seemed, contrary to Danny’s bleached one, to be natural.

"Hello." She smiled, and we shook hands, giving me the chance to flip the coin on her as well.

In the vision, I also saw her in a skyscraper—no tragedies but a peaceful setting. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

She seemed like a really nice person and somewhat... Danny-like.

"Mrs. Hooks," I nodded at her respectfully and let go while she shook hands with Henry, who had grudgingly let go of me again.

Jordan stepped forward and also presented his parents, as if this were a competition to see who had the nicest parents.

"Mrs. and Mr. Marough." I also nodded at the middle-aged pair and shook their hands and looked into the future.

This time, a house, a peaceful setting yet again, with Jordan getting woken up by the two of them after nodding off on the couch.

"It has been a long time," his mother said, smiling while her more taciturn husband just nodded back.

Both had different shades of brown hair and looked very reliable.

I think I had seen them shortly before one of Jordan’s house parties ... before they left their son alone to watch the house while going on one of their weekend work trips. If I remember right, they were both in the real estate business.

Henry, Ren, and I were the last ones to board, and while walking up the steps, I asked Ren how he liked his new uncle, aunt, and cousin. Though he had seen Omar already, it had not been this official.

Ren nodded but tightened his hold on me as if to tell me that he still liked me the best.

I chuckled, and when we entered the plane, I found Mr. Lawrence waiting for us to completely enter so he could pull up the steps and close the door.

So he was really doing everything by himself, huh?

"KENNY!" Chelsea jumped up from her four-seater on the right and wanted to run to me, but everyone was still in the aisle, in the middle of sitting down.

I saw Patrick and Harry sitting beside and in front of her. Jeyjey and the unconscious Henrietta were in a seat behind them, while a very pale Dr. Lawrence sat on a single chair at the end of the row—the old doctor was checking her blood pressure beside her.

In front of Chelsea, Danny and his parents sat down; in front of them were Jordan and his parents.

The left row was occupied by Emma and Ethan and probably the doctor when he would be able to sit back down. Behind them was a two-seater with the twins, who also both jumped up upon seeing us.

Finally, the staff sergeant was on a four-seater as well, and at the end, there was still a free two-seater and another single seat.

All seats were made of leather, looking soft as hell, and were much wider than ordinary plane seats.

Behind the last seat on the left was an open snack or coffee bar where my grandmother was forced by Mrs. Anand to choose between a bunch of tiny crystal cups.

Alright.

So even if we get shot from the sky, we’ll go down luxuriously.
