Chapter 247: 247. Agreement

Henry’s POV

"Astounding." The blonde doctor said, her eyes flitting from my face to my hand.

"Would you allow us to examine you?"

"Yes, but leave Kenny out of the testing. No pricking, no cutting, and no more questions about him."

The door opened as if on cue, and I didn’t even need to look through the window to know that the machine was empty and Kenny was gone, now standing in the doorway.

"What’s going on here?" He asked coldly.

My first instinct was always to feel relief and joy at his presence, yet now I had shown my ability without consulting him and was in the midst of coming to an agreement.

"Hmmm." He looked at the damaged table before he conjured up a gun, pointing it at the three scientists.

The blonde woman froze, the girl behind her gripped her arm, and Dr. Thompson breathed in sharply.

"What’s going on?" Kenny repeated.

I closed my eyes for a moment. They already knew of his ability to conjure things because they spoke with the survivors. But now he did it in front of them... threatening them... and again putting himself in their sights.

Every time I try to protect you, you swiftly turn the situation and protect me.

Fine, I just can’t win against you.

I snapped my eyes back open to marvel at how awesome he looked with a gun in his hand and explained myself.

"They want your blood... and they want to cut you open." I leaned against the table and crossed my arms.

"We never said anything about cutting you open!" The blonde doctor interjected sternly.

I ignored her complaints.

"They looked at your brain scan with greed. They have talked to your grandma and old teachers. They will cut you open sooner or later." I shrugged, feigning nonchalance even though I wanted to apologize to Kenny and hug him, probing the extent of his anger or disappointment in me.

"No!" The blonde woman exclaimed, while the girl behind her shook her head rapidly.

"Ah." Kenny still pointed his gun at them.

"Mr. Howard, please take a deep breath and don’t listen to him." The psychologist raised her hands in appeasement.

"He is framing us!" Dr. Thompson chimed in, clearly flustered. That man was a lot braver when there was not a gun pointed at him.

"I am not mad, no worries." Kenny put his hands behind his back before raising them both; the gun had now disappeared.

"How about we do it like this: take a look at our abilities, but we have to stay together, and as before, no blood draws, injuring us, or injecting us with anything. Additionally, only the three of you can be aware of what you find while examining us, though you can use the knowledge you gather for whatever. Then, after five years, the moment we are out of here, you are free to share your findings with whoever you like, as long as you keep our identities secret. In return, this little situation just now stays under wraps... wouldn’t that make everyone happy?"

I looked at the floor, again confirming that I just couldn’t win against him and the fact that he would never stop being the way he was—ever the protector. It was difficult to accept when I so desperately wanted to take over the role for myself, but being cared for so strongly by him still shook my soul, nevertheless.

I am only falling more and more, no matter if he shows weakness or strength, no matter what the hell he does.

We had to give them something at some point because they wouldn’t let us off during these five years we stayed here, but I wanted it to be me giving them something rather than him. Furthermore, we probably both thought it wouldn’t come to this so soon.

The prospect of staying together while going through the testings, however, and considering the fact that he could teleport away if something went wrong, made me accept this development.

"And no cameras in our room." I demanded.

"We can’t take down the cameras, especially not after what we’ve just seen." Dr. Thompson finally regained his composure.

"For security measures." The blonde woman explained.

"And what security do we get?" I asked her, not wanting them to watch Kenny while he was so vulnerable during his sleepwalking.

"We can set up a contract; bring your lawyer." The blond woman offered.

"Mhm, we’ll do that. Let’s shake hands on a fruitful cooperation." Kenny had decided, so there was no more for me to say.

The blonde woman instantly stepped forward, eager to diffuse the situation, and reached her hand out, which Kenny took.

"Next," he said after a firm shake, apparently using his ability.

The girl came forward, not as scared as she ought to be, but I noticed she wasn’t chewing on her annoying gum anymore.

Kenny shook her hand before stepping in front of the sitting Dr. Thompson, whose face was getting increasingly unfriendly by the second.

After shaking his hand for a bit longer, he leaned down and whispered something in his ear.

When he heard whatever Kenny told him, Dr. Thompson grimaced as if he had been slapped and nodded.

"Good, we will do it like this."

"Nice." Kenny turned to the landline on the wall, taking off the speaker. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

"Shall we wait here together for our attorney?" He asked into the room.

"Yes." The psychologist went to a chair and sat down, while Kenny looked cluelessly at the numbers on the dialing pad before turning to me.

I laughed and came behind him, putting in Ethan’s number that he couldn’t be aware of, while at the same time stealing a hug and grazing his hair with my chin.

"Very disobedient." Kenny said quietly, keeping the speaker pressed against his ear while the call was being connected.

I leaned to his other side and whispered,

"I’m sorry, please punish me."

"No, I know you just wanted to protect me—"

"No. I want you to punish me." I said quietly, feeling thirsty all of a sudden.

"—but I said we stayed together, so we will. Don’t go and sacrifice yourself."

"You are one to talk." Nuzzling my nose against his hair, I still couldn’t let go of the fact that he went off to fight the giant all alone.

Kenny chuckled, and I heard Ethan finally picking up through the speaker, sounding busy.

"Ethan Hendricks speaking, who am I talking to?"

"Yeah. Kenny here. Come to the Center immediately and ask for the MRT supervising room on the ground floor, where Dr. Thompson is at the moment. You need to set up a contract between us and three doctors."

"Understood, give me twenty minutes." Ethan said solemnly, and Kenny hung up after humming in agreement.

He conjured up a water bottle and handed it to me before conjuring up another one and throwing it to the blond psychologist, who caught it and examined the bottle and the label, stunned.

"It’s normal water." Kenny assured her.

Contrary to her justified suspicion of me, this time, she showed trust and unscrewed the bottle to take a sip under Dr. Thompson’s horrified eyes; still, he neither stopped her nor said anything.

"It really is." She confirmed, taking a few more sips.

"Where do you get these things from? Do you really have an interspatial bag?"

Kenny smiled so attractively that I couldn’t control my hands, hugging him from behind and glaring at the three people in front of us.

He took the water bottle from my hands and also took a sip.

"Let’s wait for our attorney first."
