Chapter 96: Chapter 96: Spencer Family Convoy

The bathroom was filled with steam, and the clear glass was blurred by the mist.

The girl’s sticky voice gradually shattered under the collision.

Afterwards, the two showered together, and Silas Sheffield wrapped Clara Sterling in a towel and carried her out of the bathroom.

Silas gently placed her on the bed and called for someone to deliver new clothes.

"Let the hotel wash those clothes," Clara Sterling said, leaning against the bedhead.

Silas replied indifferently, "Throw them away."

"Huh?" Clara Sterling frowned. "I’ve only worn that outfit twice."

"Once he’s touched them, they should be discarded." Silas’s deep eyes resembled the ocean, "I’ll buy you new ones."

"..." Clara Sterling was speechless.

This man, is he always this possessive? He gets jealous over even the smallest things.

Well, even though it’s domineering, she really likes it.

"Alright then."

"Keep your distance from him in the future, don’t let him touch you."

Clara Sterling pursed her lips and nodded obediently, "Okay."

She picked up her phone and saw two missed calls from Anabelle Spencer.

She opened WhatsApp and saw several messages from Anabelle.

[OMG! I was suddenly snagged to accompany President Hawthorne to meet a client, boo hoo hoo. If I’d known, I wouldn’t have shared a car with President Hawthorne.]

[I wanted to go back and take a nap, boo hoo hoo, working life is so hard!]

[I don’t know how long this meeting will last, I really want to go back and sleep.]

These messages were sent an hour ago.

Five minutes ago, Anabelle sent another message.

[Boo hoo hoo, they finally finished talking, and now I’m heading back with President Hawthorne. It’s a bit far, about half an hour’s drive, so tiring...]

It was followed by a work emoji.

Calculating the time, Anabelle would be at the hotel in about twenty minutes. She needed to return to her room and not let Anabelle notice anything amiss.

"Silas, when will the clothes arrive? Anabelle is coming back, and I have to go down."

The man was bare-chested, with a towel wrapped around his lower body, revealing well-defined abs.

Upon hearing this, Silas looked over, his eyes now clear after the passion subsided, "Ten minutes."

"That’s good, just in time."

Clara Sterling exhaled in relief.

"You still don’t want to tell them about your status as the CEO’s wife?" Silas walked over.

"It’s unnecessary, I’m about to resign."

Silas’s eyes were dark, "What about Julian Hawthorne?"

Clara Sterling chuckled.

"He has no interest in me, you’re overthinking it."

"Is that so." Silas’s eyes were deep, revealing no emotion.

Clara Sterling’s hair was dripping wet.

"Get me a hairdryer, I need to dry my hair."

Silas turned to fetch the hairdryer, and Clara stood up to take it, but Silas pressed her back onto the bed, "I’ll do it for you."

Clara, wrapped in a towel, sat obediently on the bed while Silas dried her hair.

Once finished, the person delivering the clothes arrived.

Silas went to the door to collect the clothes.

He handed a bag to Clara.

Three bags.

Clara looked down, it was a cream-colored suit and a light blue shirt.

There was also a small bag with underwear inside.

"..."

How thoughtful.

Clara got dressed and went downstairs back to the room.

Thankfully she had the keycard with her.

A few minutes later, Anabelle rang the doorbell.

"So tired and sleepy, I just want to sleep." Anabelle tossed her bag onto the sofa and headed straight to the bed, where she flopped down.

Clara smiled, "There’s nothing planned for the afternoon or evening, so get some rest."

Anabelle soon fell asleep.

In mid-May, Ardendale was already starting to get hot, with afternoon temperatures reaching thirty degrees.

Clara adjusted the air conditioner to a comfortable temperature, covered Anabelle with a blanket, and then left the room.

This was Clara’s first time in Ardendale, and she wanted to explore the city, but she hadn’t told Silas.

This trip to Ardendale was for business, with many eyes around, so asking Silas to take her shopping would draw too much attention.

Clara casually hailed a taxi from the roadside. Once in, the driver asked, "Where to, miss?"

"Do you have any recommendations for fun places? It’s my first time in Ardendale."

The driver, a friendly and talkative man in his forties, eagerly named a few spots when he heard it was her first visit.

"If it’s your first time, I recommend Spirit Peak Temple. It’s a great place to pray for love."

Clara smiled, "I’m already married."

The driver was surprised, "You’re married? You don’t look it at all, you seem as young as a college student."

Clara smiled without responding; she was indeed still a college student and would be graduating at the end of June.

The driver smiled and said, "Even married couples can visit temples to pray for family harmony and smooth love."

"Alright, I’ll take a look."

Since she had nothing planned for the afternoon, she decided to wander around and experience Ardendale’s local customs.

The drive from the hotel to Spirit Peak Temple took about twenty minutes. Along the way, the driver chatted warmly, sharing information about many local attractions and specialty restaurants.

Clara noted them down one by one, though she wouldn’t have time to visit them all this trip, maybe next time.

Compared to Veridian and Crestwood, Ardendale gave a more relaxed vibe.

Clara got out of the car at the foot of Spirit Peak Temple.

The driver helpfully pointed the way, "Miss, I can only drop you here. Cars can’t go any further. Follow this road up, walk for fifteen minutes up the steps, and you’ll reach the temple gates."

Clara smiled and thanked him, "Okay, thank you, mister."

She walked along the path indicated by the driver.

It was Friday, still work hours, but there were quite a few people on the road.

Many were carrying incense paper, obviously headed to pray to Buddha.

There were also many young couples, holding hands excitedly, looking like tourists from other places.

If there are this many people on a weekday, one can only imagine how crowded it gets during holidays.

Clara walked for ten minutes and was nearing the steps, when suddenly, the crowd parted to each side, clearing a path.

Clara was puzzled but followed the crowd to the side.

Not long after, a black Maybach came into view.

Soon, several more cars appeared behind the Maybach, all Maybachs, a total of five vehicles.

Strangely enough, wasn’t this road closed to cars? How did a convoy get through?

Just as Clara was thinking this, a girl nearby voiced her own confusion.

"Wasn’t it said that cars aren’t allowed in? How come they can?"

An older man nearby answered her query.

"Young lady, you must be from out of town. You don’t even recognize the Spencer Family’s convoy. The Spencer Family matriarch comes to Spirit Peak Temple to pray three times a year. The family has sponsored the temple, so they have special privileges."
