Flash Marriage: Pampered by Mr.Bigshot-Chapter 531 - 530: Young Master Peary is Called a Pauper
When Julia Adams heard Nia say she was married, she had already glanced at Nia’s hands. They were still bare, without a single ring.
Come to think of it, who gets married without a wedding ring? Unless...the man is dirt poor.
And, regardless of whether Nia Mitchell was lying or the man was truly dirt poor, either possibility delighted Julia Adams.
At the mention of a wedding ring, Nia Mitchell was indeed taken aback. She really hadn’t thought about this problem before. She looked down at her own hands. The CEO hadn’t mentioned buying one, and she had never considered it. Now that someone else had brought it up, the feeling was truly, damnably, unpleasant.
"Does the absence of a wedding ring mean I’m not married?" Nia Mitchell questioned Julia Adams. Only a snob would think that way, right?
"Of course! Otherwise, how would you prove you’re married?" Julia Adams tilted her head back to look at her, her face full of scorn.
Seeing her like this, Nia Mitchell actually felt no anger at all. "Why should I have to prove to you all that I’m married?" Is there any point? She was merely announcing the news to everyone; why did she suddenly have to prove anything? This is simply too ridiculous.
"Charles Northwood, is she really married?" Julia Adams frowned, looking at Charles Northwood. Although his status was still that of a professor, today was a class reunion, so he was just a classmate.
"Yes." Charles Northwood nodded, affirming it. Not only was she married, but she had married a very formidable man. If that man treated Nia Mitchell well, he wouldn’t have to worry about her future. His only concern was that she might be taken advantage of. But it didn’t matter; he could protect her.
"Nia Mitchell, tell us who you married. Let’s see if any of us know him." Knowing Nia was married made Julia Adams unhappy, so she wanted to needle her. How could she get married so soon? She just dumped him, and now she’s married to that other one!
"None of you know him." Nia Mitchell really didn’t want to say Maxwell Peary’s name; who knew what might happen then? So, it was better to refuse. But she was also telling the truth. How many people here dared to say they knew Maxwell Peary? At most, people could only claim to *know of* Maxwell Peary; they couldn’t even say they *understood* him.
"Is that so? Then tell us, what’s his job? Does he have a house and a car? What brand? Which ring road in Capital Town is it on? Is the house big? Is your mother-in-law nice...?" Julia Adams instantly threw out a barrage of questions, bombarding Nia Mitchell until she was overwhelmed and didn’t know how to answer.
"Stop talking, stop talking! Everyone, please sit down. Let’s get ready to eat." Ralph Perez, the class monitor, saw the situation was getting out of hand and quickly stepped in to interrupt them.
"Eat then, eat. Nia Mitchell, you didn’t even tell us on the day you got married. If it weren’t for today’s reunion, who knows how long you would have hidden it." Julia Adams sat down but still looked at Nia Mitchell as she spoke. "So, as a punishment, you should pay the bill today. I’m sure your husband can afford it, right?" She suddenly curled her lip into a cold smile. A meal at the Royal Dynasty Hotel would result in a bill with a price tag that could scare someone to death. "Your husband’s salary card—it’s not with you, is it?" Julia Adams wasn’t planning on letting her off the hook today.
Just then, Fiona Sutton returned. She happened to overhear Julia Adams telling Nia Mitchell to pay and was just about to speak up for Nia. But Nia Mitchell, who was sitting over there, spoke before she could. "We all agreed to go Dutch for the class reunion. If I suddenly offered to treat everyone, it would make them uncomfortable. Besides, if I paid the bill, wouldn’t I just be showing off?"
