Flash Marriage: Pampered by Mr.Bigshot-Chapter 468 - 467: Anne Davidson called
Maxwell Peary knitted his brows, obviously not wanting to recall the events at Madgar Pavilion that evening.
"Young Master." Just then, a servant brought up a plate of noodles.
Maxwell Peary nodded. He was starving and started eating without uttering a word.
Nia Mitchell continued eating fruit on the other side.
"Young Master, Miss Anne Davidson is on the phone."
The phone in the living room suddenly rang. The butler answered, hesitated for a moment, but eventually passed it over.
Maxwell Peary paused in his eating, evidently startled by Anne’s call.
So he took the call.
"Hello?"
Nia also stopped eating fruit and pricked up her ears.
"Young Master Peary, guess where I am now?"
On the other end of the phone, Anne’s voice was full of vitality, as if she had unlimited energy.
"I don’t know."
When it came to guessing, Maxwell Peary was always blunt.
"I’m back in Provence. I heard you were here a few days ago. Had I known, I would have returned a few days earlier. That way, I wouldn’t have missed meeting you."
Anne had so much to say once she started on this topic.
"Don’t you think we’re like the lead characters in a Korean drama, always missing each other? It happened in the U.S. and even before that in Paris."
Speaking of this, Anne’s mood soured.
"I’m beginning to suspect that you’re deliberately avoiding me."
Anne sat in her yard, dispiritedly kicking at the pebbles beneath her feet.
"Finished? If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up."
"No, wait!" Anne was taken aback and immediately tried to stop him.
"Can’t you just talk to me? Even if you don’t know what to say, can’t you just listen to me? It’s been so long, are you still going to be so heartless?"
Anne’s tone changed, her voice filled with resentment.
Maxwell Peary ignored her, placing the phone back on the table and continuing to eat his noodles.
Nia couldn’t quite hear what Anne was saying, and her eyebrows knitted together tightly.
Maxwell Peary turned his head and saw Nia’s worried expression.
Not wanting her to overthink, he picked up the phone again.
"Anne, I’m married."
He suddenly announced, interrupting Anne’s incessant chattering on the other end of the phone.
It felt like an eternity before Anne found her voice again.
"Wh... what?"
Anne was startled. Her smile froze on her face, and she was completely unsure how to react to this development.
"I’m married, soon after Lewis." Maxwell Peary repeated. He hadn’t informed her before because he hadn’t deemed it necessary.
But since she called today, he figured he should let her know.
"Married?"
Anne looked down at the pebbles under her feet. Her left hand, not holding the phone, slowly clenched, her nails digging deep into her palm.
"Yes."
Maxwell Peary’s blunt voice came from the other end. Anne bit her lip hard.
"Is... is that so? That’s... congratulations. How come I never heard about this before?"
Her voice was trembling.
"The wedding ceremony hasn’t been held yet," Maxwell Peary explained briefly and then hung up straight away.
BEEP—BEEP—BEEP—
The busy signal droned from the phone. Anne felt as if all her strength had been drained.
CLACK! The phone fell to the ground.
No wonder she hadn’t known about the marriage of the prominent Young Master Peary of Capital Town; it turned out the wedding ceremony hadn’t been held yet.
Married.
Maxwell Peary was actually married—without any warning, without the slightest hint.
"Young Master Peary, why... why..."
