Flash Marriage: Pampered by Mr.Bigshot-Chapter 456 - 455: Big Brother is so tricky!
In this world, is there really someone who has the power to change another person? This question had always troubled Yancy Hastings.
Seeing the way Maxwell Peary pampered Nia Mitchell, Yancy Hastings found it particularly irritating.
Just then, Evelyn Peary also walked in.
"Brother, Sister-in-law."
Maxwell Peary nodded. So the "guest" the waiter had mentioned was Yancy Hastings.
"Have a seat."
Maxwell Peary gestured to an empty seat, his words seemingly directed at either Evelyn Peary or Yancy Hastings, or perhaps both.
Without a second thought, Yancy Hastings sat down, his eyes fixed on Nia Mitchell. What exactly was good about this vain, ungraceful, and ill-mannered woman? Why would Maxwell Peary fall for her? He truly couldn’t understand; after all, in his mind, Maxwell Peary stood far too high.
"What brings you here today?" Maxwell Peary’s brow furrowed slightly, his gaze on Yancy Hastings carrying a hint of displeasure. Isn’t he usually very busy? Why does he have time to visit Madgar Pavilion now? Besides... Yancy Hastings never actually liked the atmosphere at Madgar Pavilion; he much preferred the tranquility of his own Lotus Residence.
"Evelyn Peary wanted to discuss something with me," Yancy Hastings said with an air of perfect sincerity, but his words carried a different weight to those who knew the situation. Everyone knew Evelyn Peary had always rejected Yancy Hastings. What could she possibly want to discuss with him? Obviously, it was about calling off the engagement. Pfft. Thinking about it, Yancy Hastings, the chauvinist, was quite pitiful.
"Brother." It took Evelyn Peary a long moment to finally speak, hoping Maxwell Peary would intercede with Yancy Hastings on her behalf. She simply couldn’t get through to the stubborn man.
"Evelyn Peary is my sister," Maxwell Peary stated. "I want her to find a man who loves and adores her, not one who merely doesn’t dislike her." There’s a vast difference between not disliking someone and loving them. Although he and Nia Mitchell were strangers before their marriage, at least they had both been willing. This situation was different. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Yancy Hastings nodded; he understood Maxwell Peary’s meaning. Evelyn Peary was Maxwell’s sister; even if Maxwell claimed he wouldn’t get involved, he wouldn’t truly ignore the matter.
"I will be good to her." That was Yancy Hastings’s promise, even though... he didn’t know if he actually liked her.
Maxwell Peary shook his head. That wasn’t what he wanted to hear.
"You had better think this through carefully. Otherwise, I will not consent to this marriage." Earlier that morning, Silvia Waterborne had specifically sought him out, talking at length, afraid he wouldn’t intervene.
Yancy Hastings’s brow furrowed. He sat there, expressionless, saying nothing more.
The atmosphere instantly grew awkward, the silence becoming unnervingly heavy.
Nia Mitchell remained seated, her chopsticks frozen in mid-air; she didn’t continue eating.
Seeing her pause, Maxwell Peary reached out with his chopsticks and placed a piece of egg into her bowl.
"Eat up. After we finish, shall we go see a movie?" Maxwell Peary considered. It had been a long time since he’d taken his little wife out to have some fun.
At the mention of a movie, Nia Mitchell’s eyes instantly lit up; clearly, the suggestion delighted her.
But Evelyn Peary, standing nearby, froze as if her pressure points had been struck, unable to move.
Her mind reeled, and all her thoughts descended into chaos. Damn it! Was that really her brother? Caring for someone, even putting food on their plate—well, that was his wife, so it was understandable. But proactively suggesting a movie? What in the world was that? She knew her older brother had never gone to a movie theater before, not even when their mother had pressured him. Today, he actually... actually... volunteered! Damn, her brother was truly something else!
