First Love Only? I Left Him First, Now the CEO Can't Let Go-Chapter 342: Pinned Down on the Bed
Today, Serena Jennings came to the Lockwood Family’s old mansion again.
Caleb Lockwood still hasn’t woken up.
Although there are no signs of opening his eyes, his fingers keep moving.
Serena’s intuition told her Caleb was trying to grab something.
Only by holding onto something did he feel safe.
Serena hesitated for a moment before extending her hand.
She placed a walnut in Caleb’s palm.
The walnut was hard and a bit prickly; Serena saw Caleb frowning, and his thin lips seemed to be pouting, looking like a child wronged.
Obviously, what he wanted to grab wasn’t a walnut.
Serena burst out laughing.
She never thought she could still laugh at such a moment.
But seeing the aggrieved expression on the unconscious Caleb’s face, Serena couldn’t help but laugh.
She found unconscious Caleb much more interesting than when he was awake.
"Caleb Lockwood, if you don’t wake up soon, I’ll keep putting walnuts in your hand daily; soon, your whole hand will be full of walnuts, and you’ll never be able to hold my hand again."
Serena felt her words were a bit childish, but they seemed to have an effect; Caleb’s expression turned into one of great suffering, looking very displeased.
Serena silently observed Caleb for a while, but he remained with his eyes closed.
It seemed as if Caleb’s inner self was resisting waking up.
Because what awaited him awake wasn’t as beautiful as in his dreams.
Serena sighed.
At this moment, the bedroom door was knocked on. Serena thought it was Lance Lockwood, but as she turned around, she saw Arthur Lockwood standing at the door.
"Serena, come out for a moment."
Arthur gestured for her to come over.
Serena followed Arthur into the living room, where a checkbook was placed on the coffee table.
In modern society, checks are mostly used for business transactions.
But this checkbook from Arthur must have another purpose.
And that purpose, Serena had basically guessed it.
"Take a seat!"
Arthur motioned for Serena to sit down.
After Serena sat on the sofa, Arthur bent over and pushed the checkbook toward her.
"Serena, you’ve seen Caleb’s condition. So many days have passed without improvement, and even the doctors are at a loss... I know, you no longer love Caleb. But... after all, you were once married, and Caleb still has deep feelings for you... And although our Lockwood family hasn’t treated you very well, we haven’t done you wrong. So, I’m letting you fill in yourself, as much as you want... I don’t ask you to really remarry Caleb; just tell him you’re willing to remarry him to wake him up."
This was already the greatest concession Arthur could make.
Initially, he wanted Serena to truly remarry Caleb.
On one hand, because Caleb likes Serena.
On the other, there was no more suitable candidate than Serena at the moment.
Now Serena was different; she was a renowned figure in the fashion jewelry world and the head of the Lockwood Group.
Caleb’s remarriage to Serena would mean the Lockwood Group was back in the Lockwood’s hands.
However...
Serena was not agreeing.
Arthur felt Serena was being ungrateful.
But at this moment, they needed Serena’s help.
Caleb was his only heir; he couldn’t stand by and watch Caleb remain in a coma.
So, he took a step back.
"Not just money, any property, company from the Lockwood family you fancy, you can have... I’ve made it clear, you don’t have to really remarry Caleb, just use this remarriage trick to wake him up."
Arthur’s anxiety and unease were palpable to Serena.
It was her first time seeing Arthur so humble, not even needing a real remarriage, just to wake Caleb up, he was willing to pay so much.
As Serena stared at the checkbook in front of her, she picked up the pen.
Arthur’s eyes immediately lit up.
For merely a promise of remarriage, one could gain astronomical assets from the Lockwood family, anyone with sense would agree.
However, just as Arthur was full of expectation, he saw Serena put down the pen.
Nothing was written on the checkbook.
"Serena, I’ve given all I can give, isn’t this satisfactory for you?"
Facing Arthur’s shock, Serena shook her head.
"No, it’s not that... I just thought of a better way."
"What better way?"
Arthur hurriedly asked.
Serena was silent for a moment and then smiled gently.
"I’ll just need to make some preparations first."
Under Arthur’s puzzled gaze, Serena left the Lockwood Family’s old mansion.
When she returned, she was wearing a wedding dress.
Arthur, Lance, and Mrs. Warren were all stunned.
After hearing Serena’s plan, Arthur was worried.
"What if... it stimulates Caleb, making him worse?"
This too was a risk Serena wasn’t sure about.
But given Caleb’s current situation, desperate times call for desperate measures.
Ultimately, Lance decided to believe in Serena.
He had Arthur take him and Mrs. Warren away from the old mansion, leaving the whole place to Serena and the coma-stricken Caleb alone.
If Serena’s method worked, Caleb would surely want to be alone with her upon waking.
The large mansion was empty and quiet.
Serena, holding her sequined white wedding dress, walked upstairs.
Her hair was styled beautifully, her makeup exquisitely done, looking just like a bride about to be married.
The bedroom was silent, with Caleb still unconscious and receiving IV fluids.
Serena stood by Caleb’s bedside, staring intently at his peaceful, sleeping face.
"Caleb Lockwood... I’m going to marry Ethan White."
Though Serena’s voice wasn’t loud, perhaps because of the overly quiet room, her words sounded exceptionally clear and loud.
"Now, it’s just the two of us in this house... I can finally tell you something from my heart."
Serena’s face, made up like a bride, revealed a ruthless smile.
"You know, I actually wish you’d just sleep on like this."
"As long as you remain in a coma, my life won’t be disturbed by you, and I don’t have to worry about you sabotaging my wedding to Ethan White..."
"I will become Ethan White’s wife, living a loving life with him till old age."
Caleb’s eyes snapped open as Serena pronounced the final word.
It was the first time he opened his eyes after so many days of psychogenic coma.
Serena let out a breath she had been holding in her chest, finally relaxing.
She indeed... knew Caleb well.
Lance, Arthur, and the others all thought she had to talk of remarriage for Caleb to possibly wake up.
However, the fake marriage idea from Ethan’s mother had sparked a thought for Serena.
She could go against the grain.
Whether he was the rebellious teenager in juvenile detention or the influential businessman in the market.
Serena always believed, Caleb was fundamentally an unyielding person.
As long as she, dressed in a wedding gown, told Caleb she was going to marry Ethan White, Caleb’s instincts would compel him to wake up.
The facts proved, she gambled correctly.
"Caleb..."
Serena hadn’t yet had time to feel joyful when she was suddenly pinned to the bed by Caleb.
