Chapter 2696 - Miss Wanjun Descends From the Heavens

The black-robed sword cultivator smiled. “That geezer’s reincarnation is so weak. Is he truly worthy of the title of ‘the boss of Sword Sovereign City’? Seems to me that he’s no more than a pitiful worm!”

He swung his massive, blood-red sword with shocking murderous intent, attacking with increased ferocity. The River Lord had no choice but to retreat.

“Hahaha! You were once the most loyal dog in Sword Sovereign City, one of the lofty Nine Progenitors of the Dao of the Sword, the one the sword cultivators of the All-Profound Dominion honored as a living fossil of the Dao of the Sword. Zhou Sanjia, when did you get so weak?”

Hei Ya threw back his head and laughed, his eyes bloodthirsty and vicious!

Zhou Sanjia was once one of the boss’s servants. He was also among those whom Hei Ya was most determined to kill!

The River Lord barely reacted to the mention of his true name. He just said, “I might be inept, but you can’t defeat me, can you?”

“Perhaps not, but your boss’s reincarnation is doomed! I’ll be the one to claim his Dao Fruit!” Hei Ya laughed coldly. “I seem to recall you vowing that should your master pass, you’d destroy your Sword Heart and accompany him to the grave. I’ll be eager to see whether you fulfill your vow, you old servant!”

The River Lord furrowed his brow in silence, but he looked increasingly fraught with worry.

Bang!!!

Meanwhile, off in the distance, Gongye Futu was injured once more. A spear slammed him into the ground.

Hei Ya burst into sputtering laughter. “When you and Ol’ Gongye plummeted from Eternity, one of you fell from Eternity, while the other suffered a tribulation and the bitter torment of losing his body, his remnant soul departing the All-Profound Dominion, all for the sake of awaiting your master’s return through the cycle of reincarnation.

“But now, all of your hard work will go to waste!” He couldn’t help but throw back his head and laugh, delight written all over his face. “Look at yourselves! How glorious were you back then? Now, you’re as wretched as can be! You’re even lower than dogs!”

The River Lord said nothing; he couldn’t be bothered to argue.

“Once Li Shouhu and Bai Xiao have killed Gongye Futu, it’ll be your turn!” Hei Ya said with glee. “But rest assured that I won’t kill you. I’ll just fasten a leash around your neck and drag you back to the All-Profound Dominion. I’ll show the world that Zhou Sanjia of the Nine Progenitors of the Dao of the Sword has become my dog!”

The River Lord just sighed and didn’t argue.

Long ago, when the boss expelled Hei Ya from Sword Sovereign City, the River Lord didn’t understand his reasoning. He’d even rallied his courage to beg for mercy on Hei Ya’s behalf. He wanted to give Hei Ya an opportunity to make amends.

But their typically silent boss uncharacteristically responded with a full sentence. “It was hard enough to accept not killing him!”

Only then did the River Lord realize that the boss had wanted to kill Hei Ya. He’d only spared him out of consideration for their former bond.

Looking back on it now, the River Lord finally realized how blind he’d been.

Hei Ya was a lost cause. There was no fixing him!

“Ol’ Gongye, let’s give it our all,” the River Lord said calmly. “We cannot afford any further delays. Whether we live or die, we have to end this!”

His voice boomed far and wide.

Gongye Futu spat up a mouthful of blood and said, “Very well! I’ll try my best to take these curs down with me!”

But then, a soft, feminine voice rang out. “I’ve already placed a formation over the entire ancient battlefield. Struggling will do you no good. If you don’t believe me, you’re welcome to test it.”

A man in a long, gilded robe appeared, holding a feather fan. He was even more beautiful than most women, and his whole body surged with a current of light of the Grand Dao. Even just standing there casually, he was a sight to behold.

But he was indeed male, and his eyes were as sharp as a saber!

“Yun Wuxiang, you’re actually still alive!?” The River Lord and Gongye Futu’s brows furrowed.

Yun Wuxiang was the most unparalleled expert of the Yao Path in the All-Profound Dominion, an incomparably terrifying figure.

Back then, only a handful of experts could suppress his bluster, and only the boss could force him to lower his head.

When the boss left Sword Sovereign City and headed to the All-Wonder Dominion, he announced a list of old-timers he wanted dead, all in the name of establishing an Eternal Pact. He wanted to prevent chaos arising in his absence.

Yun Wuxiang was among those on the list!

Back then, the boss was truly invincible in the All-Profound Dominion. No one else could compare!

The way the people saw it, for the boss to mention you by name was clear proof of your strength.

That was the kind of expert Yun Wuxiang was!

This was an old-timer who should have died countless years ago. Of course, Gongye Futu and the River Lord were startled to see him!

“I did indeed die once,” sighed Yun Wuxiang. “Your boss’s attack was really quite seeming. Even now, the thought of it fills me with lingering terror and despair. Anyone who opposed him... was in for trouble!”

But then, the corners of his lips curled upward, and his sharp, beautiful eyes looked first at the River Lord, then at Gongye Futu. He laughed. “But he’s no longer here. You cannot even imagine how happy those who hate him are that he’s gone.”

He stood there, robes fluttering around him, inhumanly beautiful. Although he wasn’t participating in the combat, his presence made the River Lord and Gongye Futu’s hearts sink into the pit of their stomachs.

If they went all out, they were confident that they had at least some hope of survival.

At least, they were, before Yun Wuxiang showed up. Now that this unparalleled old yao was here, the two of them knew that struggling would do them no good!

The River Lord estimated that even at his peak, he’d have at most a fifty percent chance of besting Yun Wuxiang.

In his current state, he was doomed.

“Aren’t you curious about how I came back to life?” laughed Yun Wuxiang.

“The sight of you sickens me, you girly bastard. How could I possibly care how you managed to live?” growled Gongye Futu.

He was indeed injured and in grave peril, but he didn’t care in the least.

“‘Girly bastard?’” Yun Wuxiang’s smile broadened, but terrifying murderous intent surged in the depths of his gaze.

He suddenly raised his hand and used his fan to point at the distant Gongye Futu.

Silver lightning tinged with bloody light came crashing down, boring a hole through Gongye Futu’s body.

Tyrannical silver electricity coursed through his wounds like bone-gnawing worms; there was no getting rid of it. On the contrary, it relentlessly devoured Gongye Futu’s life force.

Li Shouhu seized the opportunity. His spear flew through the air, stabbing Gongye Futu once more.

Meanwhile, the elderly Confucian swung his scepter and attacked explosively.

They wanted to take advantage of his moment of weakness to strike a fatal blow!

Gongye Futu managed to dodge at a critical juncture, but one of his arms shattered in the process, blood gushing from the wound.

The River Lord looked stricken. He gnashed his teeth and prepared to fight Hei Ya with everything he had.

Even if he couldn’t beat Yun Wuxiang, he figured he could at least beat Hei Ya to death!

But Yun Wuxiang seemed to see right through him. He smiled and shook his head. “The caged beasts fight on. How futile.”

His voice had only just rung out when a waterfall of silver lightning with an unearthly, blood-red tinge came pouring down from the heavens.

It quickly enveloped the River Lord completely!

The electric waterfall transformed into shackles of the natural order, instantly trussing the River Lord head to toe.

Hei Ya seized the opportunity to swing his massive heavy sword at the River Lord’s head, only for Yun Wuxiang to stop him.

“I have use for the old-timer. You cannot kill him,” said Yun Wuxiang. He gently waved his feather fan, the very picture of a young playboy, dashing and unfettered.

“This is the formation I placed here. It’s called the Astral Lightning Dao Barrier, and it forms a self-contained domain. The moment you and Gongye Futu arrived, you effectively threw yourselves into the net. You were doomed to lose right from the start,” Yun Wuxiang softly explained. Then, he raised his hand and snapped his finger.

Another swath of silver lightning came crashing down, restricting the already badly injured Gongye Futu just as he had the River Lord.

Yun Wuxiang smiled, eyes narrowing into slits. “You two ought to consider yourselves lucky. After all, you were once confidants of the boss of Sword Sovereign City. For that reason, I can’t bear the thought of killing you!

“Once we get back to the All-Profound Dominion, I’ll give you a chance to turn over a new leaf and join the side of righteousness!”

Gongye Futu and the River Lord’s expressions darkened. This situation was indeed outside of their expectations.

It was surprising enough that Hei Ya, Li Shouhu, and Bai Xiao had broken the rules and left the All-Profound Dominion. They’d never even considered the possibility that an old monster like Yun Wuxiang had come back to life, much less that he’d show up here!

All of this caught them completely off guard.

But neither of them was afraid to die. They weren’t worried about that. They were worried about Su Yi!

They didn’t know what was happening on Red Pine Mountain, or what Su Yi’s situation was.

“Of course, you needn’t worry about that Su Yi kid. He’s far more important to me than you,” said Yun Wuxiang. He sighed. “After all, he was once the heavens of the All-Profound Dominion!”

The boss of Sword Sovereign City had presided over the All-Profound Dominion for countless years. He really was like the incarnation of the heavens!

“Once I’ve captured him, I’ll crush him beneath my feet and ask whether the former ruler of the All-Profound Dominion still remembers ol’ Yun Wuxiang.” Yun Wuxiang’s eyes blazed like torches; he seemed incomparably eager. He murmured, “Just the thought of it makes my Dao Heart tremble with anticipation!”

But then, an icy female voice said out of nowhere, “You’re letting your imagination run wild.”

As the voice was heard, the invisible barrier covering the ancient battlefield split, then shattered with a bang.

Yun Wuxiang’s eyes widened with surprise. Someone had just destroyed his Astral Lightning Dao Barrier with a single slash!

That sword qi was dazzling, bright red, and it poured down like scattered, misty light, illuminating the entire stretch of heaven and earth.

As resplendent as could be.

When the Astral Lightning Dao Barrier broke, the silver lightning binding the River Lord and Gongye Futu collapsed.

This sudden development startled them all, no matter their allegiance. All of them looked over to see the new arrival.

It was a woman in white, as ethereal as a cloud. She carried a streak of sword qi as resplendent as the light of dawn illuminating the nine heavens.

Miss Wanjun!

The River Lord and Gongye Futu recognized her immediately, and both of them were visibly flabbergasted. They would never have guessed that the one woman the boss had a guilty conscience over would show up here.

Even though she looked different from how she did back then, her presence and powers of the Dao of the Sword couldn’t possibly deceive the River Lord and Gongye Futu’s eyes!
