First Immortal of the Sword-Chapter 1961: The Fish Takes the Bait
Chapter 1961: The Fish Takes the Bait
Su Yi stood at the shore of the boundless river of chaos then leaped in without further hesitation.
Boom!
The river churned, its mottled chaos power incomparably terrifying. When Su Yi charged into it, he met with a terrifying backlash.
The omnipresent waters bore down on him, as if a divine mountain were trying to crush him flat. Su Yi had to circulate the full extent of his cultivation base to block it.
Even so, the further down he went, the greater the water pressure. It was as if divine mountains were piling up on his shoulders, bearing down on him with ever-increasing intensity.
But this was still within the bounds of what Su Yi could bear.
The turbid current was permeated with chaos energy. Su Yi descended almost a full thousand feet before brilliant red light entered his field of view. It flickered on and off, like a dazzling star of flame.
This was the very Epoch Fragment Su Yi had been searching for!
“I finally found you.” Su Yi leaped and shot toward it.
……
Outside the chaos lake.
“Esteemed Divine Son, someone got there first. They’ve already charged into the riverbed.”
A group came whooshing over. Their leader was a green-robed young man in a tall hat and a broad belt.
“Did you see who it was?” asked the young man in green.
“Esteemed Divine Son, the distance was too great to see clearly, and your subordinate avoided using his divine sense to avoid alerting the other party,” said one of the others.
The green-robed young man was called Lu Beiye. He was a top-class divine son from the God Domain.
The seven people accompanying him were divine emissaries.
“The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind. Place a killing formation here first. When he emerges, just kill him,” Lu Beiye said flatly.
Someone hesitated. “Esteemed Divine Son, what do we do if it’s someone we know?”
Lu Beiye laughed. “Compared to a chance at divinity, friends and acquaintances are worth no more than farts. It might not be polite to say it, but even fellow clansmen would turn on each other over an opportunity like this!"
“And this is the Epoch Battlefield. If we’re to acquire Epoch Fragments, we must be ruthless! So just do as I say.” Lu Beiye waved, and his subordinates got to work. Soon, they’d completed the killing formation.
Lu Beiye nodded approvingly. “The Thousand Currents Firmament-Severing Formation is enough to kill any Great Realm expert around! All of you are to prepare yourselves for battle immediately. The moment that guy sticks out his head, kill him without mercy!”
“Understood!” The divine emissaries nodded.
Time slipped by.
“He’s here!” Suddenly, someone transmitted a message to the others. They could just barely see a figure emerging from the center of the river.
Lu Beiye’s eyes flashed with murderous intent. “Get him!”
Boom!!
The formation rumbled and boomed. Dazzling, resplendent silver lightning surged forth, weaving into a grand, mysterious formation domain that enveloped the river completely.
Within the formation, that terrifying silver lightning fell like rain and descended explosively upon that figure.
In that moment, the entire surface of the lake churned. Destructive power shook heaven and earth. Lu Beiye approached the killing formation, ready to collect the spoils.
But his footsteps soon came to an abrupt halt.
Boom!
A heaven-shaking impact rang out, and the entire killing formation split.
A figure emerged, and startled cries arose throughout the area.
Before the crowd could come to their senses, a dense flurry of sword qi swept outward.
Splurt! Splurt! Splurt!
Three Great Realm experts were killed on the spot before they could dodge.
Lu Beiye was affected too, but at a critical juncture, he took out a copper mirror and held it in front of himself, narrowly avoiding the terrifying sword qi. Still, his entire body was forced backward.
His expression instantly shifted. Who is this guy? How could he break the Thousand Currents Firmament-Severing Formation so easily? Isn’t he a bit too strong?
Before long, Su Yi came back into view beneath the dome of heaven. He swept his gaze across the crowd, then smiled. “Not bad. You’re braver than the others.”
He meant every word, too. On the way here, everyone he encountered fled from him immediately, yet now, someone dared set a trap for him. That was truly rare.
“Su… Su Yi!” Someone gasped, visibly horrified.
“So it was him!” Someone else felt a chill course down his spine.
Lu Beiye broke out in cold sweats. How could it possibly be him!? How could I possibly be so unlucky!?
Boom!
Before Lu Beiye came back to his senses, Su Yi attacked without hesitation. His sleeves billowed, and sword qi descended, like the river of stars pouring onto the world below. It came crashing down from the nine heavens, and the remaining four Great Realm experts perished on the spot, as fragile as if they were made out of paper.
Lu Beiye immediately turned and fled.
He took out one defensive treasure after another, practically burning money. They lit up with overlapping layers of colorful treasure light and enveloped him completely.
That wasn’t the end of it. He also crushed and activated an escape treasure and shot off like a beam of light, tearing through the sky. In the blink of an eye, he’d vanished.
But he was still one step too late.
He was just under three hundred thousand feet away when Su Yi blocked his path.
“If I said that was a misunderstanding, would you believe me?” Lu Beiye gulped with great difficulty.
“Yes,” said Su Yi. “You most likely didn’t recognize me earlier.”
Lu Beiye forced a smile. “Then… might you possibly show mercy and give me a chance to make amends?”
Su Yi smiled back. “Sure, if you can block one of my attacks. Do that, and I’ll let you leave.”
“Really?”
“I don’t make promises lightly.”
“Very well!” Lu Beiye took a deep breath, and his aura expanded to new heights.

An inscrutable rumbling filled the sky, and he vanished into thin air once more.
Moments later, Lu Beiye appeared over a valley, his expression utterly derisive. “What an idiot. Does he think I’m stupid? How could I not know that I’d have no hope of surviving even one of his attacks?”
“Don’t you think you’re celebrating prematurely?” a calm voice rang out.
Lu Beiye’s sneer froze in place, and his expression shifted as dramatically as if he’d been struck by lightning. He couldn’t help but blurt, “I used a talisman bequeathed to me by a god. How could you possibly…”
Boom!
A swath of sword qi descended, tearing Lu Beiye to bits and killing him on the spot.
“Once I locked onto your aura, nothing could save you, not even a god-given talisman.” Su Yi shook his head.
Lu Beiye had been quite cautious and clever, but alas. In the face of absolute strength, no amount of scheming or tricks was worth mentioning.
The Divine Replenishment Furnace started gathering the spoils once more.
Before long, it returned with an ink-black flying dagger. “Look at this, Your Excellency.”
This was an Epoch Treasure. There was no keeping it here.
Su Yi had previously tried subduing such treasures after killing divine children, but all such attempts ended in failure, no exceptions.
The divine children’s Epoch Treasures had been forged by gods and imbued with their Epoch Laws, giving them strong spirituality. There was no subduing them.
But when Su Yi examined the ink-black flying knife, he was surprised to discover a mysterious formation in the treasure’s interior.
A strange and terrifying divine power was brewing within the formation.
When Su Yi tried examining it with his divine sense, an explosion went off in his brain. He felt as if he could see a terrifying deity seated within the mysterious formation.
It was a man in a feather coat with long, loose hair. When his cold eyes opened and closed, it was as if celestial bodies were rising and falling!
“You’re seeking death!” A dignified bellow rang out.
The ink-black throwing knife suddenly rumbled, boomed, and erupted with terrifying divine majesty. Su Yi immediately tightened his grip and used the power of reincarnation to suppress it.
Boom!!
The black flying knife quivered as the power of reincarnation slammed into the formation.
“Reincarnation!! So, it’s you——!” That dignified voice resounded throughout Su Yi’s sea of consciousness once more. This time, the speaker sounded startled and furious.
But a moment later, that infuriated roar turned into an agonized, desperate cry.
Meanwhile, within the flying knife, that mysterious formation collapsed and fell apart. It was indistinct, but Su Yi could see that godlike figure disperse amidst the deep, inscrutable power of reincarnation.
The next moment, the ink-black flying knife’s source power erupted with such overflowing power that it broke free of Su Yi’s grip. Then, the Epoch Treasure shot into the air and flew off.
Su Yi didn’t give chase. Instead, he looked in the direction the knife had flown off in and sank into thought.
The formation within the knife was likely a summoning formation, and the person within it was likely a god’s avatar of will!
But in his current state, his power was ethereal and indistinct, and he posed no threat. The god obviously had yet to condense a complete avatar of will.
When Su Yi realized this, he guessed something.
After the Epoch Battlefield appeared, the gods would be able to project their power into the Immortal Realm and appear here as avatars of will.
The black knife Lu Beiye had carried was a summoning formation. It could usher a god’s avatar of will into the Immortal Realm!
But before the god’s avatar of will could fully condense, Su Yi destroyed it with his power of reincarnation.
Practically all of the divine children who’d descended into the Immortal Realm of late carried Epoch Treasures. Su Yi suddenly realized that they weren’t just weapons and life-saving treasures. They had another use too: ushering the gods’ avatars of will into the Immortal Realm!
Of course, this was merely a hypothesis on Su Yi’s part, and he was sure that this wasn’t the only means the gods had of projecting themselves into the Immortal Realm.
“Your Excellency, I finished collecting those guys’ belongings, and I found two stalks of divine medicine, nine types of divine materials, and the corpses of two natural variant species!” reported the Divine Replenishment Furnace as it displayed the spoils.
Su Yi’s spirits soared, and he nodded in satisfaction. It was just as they said; you couldn’t get rich without the occasional windfall!
The combined value of these trophies was far beyond the good fortune of the Great Realm.
Su Yi examined the spoils and muttered to himself, “Oh? I just had a bold idea. Perhaps… I can set out bait and reel in more fish!”
