First Immortal of the Sword-Chapter 1952: Chaos Epoch
Chapter 1952: Chaos Epoch
You can’t even tell me your name? Su Yi was at a loss for words. How high must his cultivation be for even his name to be such a taboo?
He couldn’t wrap his head around it.

Su Yi had originally planned to ask several other questions, but in the end, he resisted the impulse. Some things, he would figure out for himself down the line—like his first incarnation’s origins, and how he got acquainted with Chen Xi, and then even the Esteemed Demon God’s true name.
At the end of the day, everything he was now experiencing was connected to his first incarnation. Thus, when he fused with his first incarnation’s Dao Imprint, all would naturally become clear.
But before Su Yi could respond, that hearty voice rang out of its own accord. “The power of the Spacetime Boundary Marker severs the connection between the Spirit Martial Epoch and the other epochs. You could see it as a sort of seal. There are fifty such markers in total.
“It’s these Spacetime Boundary Markers that hide the Spirit Martial Epoch from the world. This is but one of them. It separates the Spirit Martial Epoch from the epoch you’re currently in. When this epoch’s Path of Divinity appears, this Spacetime Boundary Marker will go completely into hiding.”
“Why did you arrange this?” asked Su Yi.
“My true body left the Chaos Epoch with Brother Chen Xi in search of greater heights of the Grand Dao. I wanted to avoid my enemies taking advantage of my absence, so I made arrangements and hid the Spirit Martial Epoch from the River of Epochs before I left.”
Only then did Su Yi understand. It was much like how one of his past incarnations had hidden the Dark and Gold Star Domain: the Esteemed Demon God wanted to avoid others sneaking in in his absence.
The Demon God whose name was a taboo was strong enough to hide an entire epoch of civilization. His abilities were far too terrifying.
That hearty voice suddenly rang out once more. “Daoist Brother, little time remains before this imprint dissipates. Please let me say a few words, and please forgive me if I overlook anything.”
Su Yi had a sudden, strange sensation. The Esteemed Demon God was being far too polite to him!
He’d started out by calling him “Daoist Brother”, and every sentence since had been extremely respectful. The thought that this was someone who’d stepped into the Realm of Eternity and transcended the River of Destiny left Su Yi feeling flattered—and startled.
There was no doubt about it. It wasn’t that Su Yi was so impressive; this was entirely out of respect for his first incarnation!
“Please, go right ahead,” said Su Yi.
“First, in the present epoch, the gods see reincarnation as a taboo. That proves that after my true body and Brother Chen Xi left, this Chaos Epoch underwent some kind of drastic change. And you are the only person in it to have mastered reincarnation. Thus, unknown enemies are sure to target you.”
Su Yi was instantly solemn. He couldn’t help but ask, “I know that the River of Epochs contains numerous epoch civilizations. Is the Chaos Epoch one of them?”
“No,” said that hearty voice. “A Chaos Epoch encompasses the epoch civilizations, the Grand Dao, and all living beings and phenomena, as well as the immeasurable alternations of the ages. The epoch civilizations of the River of Epochs were just part of the Chaos Epoch. You’ll naturally understand once you’ve risen above the River of Destiny.”
Su Yi nodded.
The Demon God continued, “Second, I can tell that you’ve yet to fully master the complete natural order of reincarnation. In a moment, I’ll share a reincarnation imprint with you. It’ll ensure that flaws in your mastery of reincarnation don’t affect your pursuit of the Grand Dao when you achieve divinity.”
Su Yi’s heart shook. “Thank you.”
“You needn’t be so polite, Daoist Brother. I dare not accept such politeness. I dare say with certainty that when you reawaken the memories of your past lives, you’ll step onto the unparalleled path of the sword you’ve been searching for for countless years!” said that hearty voice.
The voice paused, then added, “Lastly, I have an unreasonable request. I hope you can help me look after that girl, Jinghong.”
“Jinghong?” Su Yi was stunned.
“She didn’t tell you her name?” said the hearty voice in mild surprise.
Su Yi instantly understood. He was talking about the spearwoman! So, her name was Jinghong!
“Might I ask about her relationship with you?” asked Su Yi.
“She…” The hearty voice was suddenly exasperated. “She’s my youngest and most rebellious daughter. She slipped away before I hid the Spirit Martial Epoch and went to explore the Fortune Dominion instead of obediently staying where it was safe.”
The Esteemed Demon God’s daughter! Su Yi’s eyelids twitched. Her identity was far too terrifying. Who knew what kind of waves would result if word spread?
A moment later, Su Yi said with self-deprecation, “In this incarnation, I’ve yet to even achieve divinity. Even if I wanted to look after your daughter, I’m afraid I’m not up to the task.”
“You needn’t be so modest, Daoist Brother. You have, after all, reincarnated. You’ll return to your former peak soon enough! And I’m looking forward to meeting you in person in the future,” said that hearty voice before everything went silent.
Meanwhile, Su Yi reawakened from that strange state. The perfect, complete world of reincarnation reflected on the Spacetime Boundary Marker transformed into a resplendent, mysterious mark and shot into his sea of consciousness.
The mark of reincarnation!
It was like a lamp illuminating the way ahead. Su Yi could compare it with his current attainments in reincarnation, but that wasn’t all. It could also help him grasp further mysteries!
The thought of his conversation with the Esteemed Demon God filled Su Yi’s heart with irrepressible motivation. Just how strong was he at his peak? And just how strong was my first incarnation, for the Esteemed Demon God to address me as ‘Daoist Brother?’
And then there’s that Chen Xi person. He left the Chaos Epoch with the Esteemed Demon God, presumably in search of greater heights of the Dao. In that case, in this incarnation, I’ll rise higher and higher until I surpass my first incarnation. I’ll surpass Chen Xi and the Esteemed Demon God, too!
In the path of cultivation, nothing was scarier than having no goal in sight. Now, Su Yi could see the road he longed for clearly!
Suddenly, the spearwoman’s voice resounded through his ears. “Hey, don’t just stand there. Hurry up and save A’Cai.”
In stark contrast with her father, the spearwoman wasn’t the least bit polite. But Su Yi naturally wouldn’t take offense. He exerted his will, raised a corner of the net of reincarnation covering the Spacetime Boundary Marker, and tossed it over A’Cai. Then, with a shake of his wrist, he pulled in the net, and A’Cai with it.
The spearwoman immediately grabbed A’Cai, still in golden silkworm form. When she confirmed that A’Cai was unharmed and simply in a strange, dormant state, she visibly relaxed.
“Many thanks. I owe you a favor,” said the spearwoman.
Su Yi laughed. “No need to be so polite, Miss Jinghong.”
The spearwoman’s beautiful purple eyes widened in astonishment. “You…”
Su Yi laughed. “Let’s vacate the premises. We can talk elsewhere.”
The spearwoman frowned, glared hatefully at Su Yi, and said no more.
Off in the distance, the man in Confucian robes suddenly said, “Fellow Daoists, you’ve gotten what you came for. Fellow Daoist Su, we hope you can assist us!”
With that, he clasped his fist and bowed. The other dead gods did the same.
“You want me to help you reincarnate?” asked Su Yi.
The man in Confucian robes said, “Exactly.”
Su Yi said, “I’m afraid I can’t do that now.”
“Why?” The elderly dwarf’s expression darkened. “We’ve made plenty of concessions already, and we’ve been polite. Can’t you do us this tiny little favor?”
His displeasure was readily apparent.
“Who do you think you are? It’s not like we owe you anything. Why should we help you?” The spearwoman said icily and without the slightest politeness.
The elderly dwarf’s expression was overcast, and his red eyes glinted with viciousness. He was obviously enraged.
“Calm down,” said the man in Confucian robes. He looked at Su Yi and said, “Fellow Daoist, if you’re willing to help us, we’ll agree to any request that’s within our power to grant. How about it?”
The other dead gods looked at Su Yi, too.
Su Yi rubbed his forehead. There was no denying it; the attention of so many powerful dead gods put enormous pressure on him.
But it wasn’t enough to make Su Yi back down. He said directly, “My current control over reincarnation is insufficient to let other people enter the cycle of samsara and cultivate anew, but I’m sure I’ll be able to do it eventually. How about you… wait a while longer?”
The dead gods’ expressions were instantly as dark as could be.
“The Path of Divinity will reappear within a year, and when it does, the Place Abandoned by Heaven will be destroyed. If we do not reincarnate, we’ll be wiped from existence,” said the woman shrouded in a maelstrom of black flame. “Do you think we can afford to wait?”
They were asking for help, but their attitudes were as domineering as could be.
The spearwoman frowned and was about to say something when Su Yi pulled her back.
“I have a solution,” said Su Yi. “You can lie low within my Grand Dao Hidden Realm. I can help you re-enter the cycle of reincarnation later. How about it?”
The dead gods exchanged glances. Their expressions filled with uncertainty.
“Ludicrous. If we’re trapped within your Grand Dao Hidden Realm, we’ll be no different from fish on the chopping block. A single thought from you would be enough to eradicate us!” said a valiant-looking man. Only the top half of his body remained.
“That’s right. If we leave this place, we’ll lose the protection of undying power, and we’ll face the risk of annihilation at any moment. There’s no way we could possibly agree to that!” the other dead gods spoke up, one after another.
Su Yi shrugged. “In that case, I’m afraid I can’t help you.”
“No, you must help us!” said the elderly dwarf. His eyes glinted with sinister light. “Or else, you can forget about leaving this place!”
He no longer hid his long-accumulated murderous intent. The other dead gods glared at Su Yi, their gazes equally unfriendly.
The atmosphere was instantly stifled and tense.
