First Immortal of the Sword-Chapter 1950: Signs
Chapter 1950: Signs
When the man in Confucian robes arrived, the elderly dwarf seemed to regain his rationality.
His red eyes glared at the spearwoman, and he said sinisterly, “Woman, how dare you deceive me? You’re seeking death!!”
Boom!
He charged into the fray, and the thirty-three-story Dao Palace shifted through the air as he attacked the spearwoman. Countless illusory deities roared in fury, their terrifying majesty enveloping heaven and earth.
The spearwoman swung her spear through the air.
Bang!!!
Heaven and earth swayed as the thirty-three-story Dao Palace was blocked.
But the spearwoman staggered on her feet too, and she was almost forced back. She said icily, “Hey, you! Su guy! Show him the power of reincarnation!”
“Very well,” Su Yi said flatly.
He waved his sleeve through the air, and a swath of sword qi rose into the heavens and descended, manifesting visions of the Six Paths of Reincarnation that swept toward the elderly dwarf.
The little old man shrieked in terror and retreated explosively. He in no way dared attempt to fight back.
The man in Confucian robes looked stricken. “It really is reincarnation? Stop the battle!”
“Since you recognize it, you ought to understand how terrifying an existence one who controls reincarnation is,” the spearwoman said coldly.
The little old man stood in the distance, his hands and feet quivering with right and his face a mask of dread.
The man in Confucian robes, meanwhile, looked at Su Yi with suspicion.
There was no denying it. Beneath the weight of a dead god’s gaze, even Su Yi’s heart went taut, and he felt a prickling pain in his skin. His instincts screamed that this was a threat.
The dead god’s aura was just too terrifying!
Of all of the opponents Su Yi had faced in this lifetime, only the gods watching his tribulations from across time and space had such terrifying auras.
Boom!
The spearwoman suddenly swung her spear and pointed it at the man in Confucian robes, who retreated explosively, dodging her surprise attack by a hair.
“What is the meaning of this?” said the man in Confucian robes. His voice was still gentle, but his expression was considerably darker.
The spearwoman said coldly, “Be respectful. That little guy might be weak now, but he controls the power of reincarnation. He is not someone you can scrutinize so brazenly.”
She was as tyrannical as could be.
Luo Tiandu and Xi Ning were ill at ease. They could never have endured such a stand-off; in her shoes, they would have broken down immediately.
The man in Confucian robes fell briefly silent, then turned to Su Yi and flashed him an apologetic smile. “I was indeed rude. Please don’t take offense, Fellow Daoist.”
As he spoke, he faced Su Yi and bowed. Unfortunately, he was holding his severed head aloft in his hand, and his body was covered in still-bleeding wounds, making the typically polite gesture rather unsettling instead.
Su Yi said nothing. He still couldn’t figure out what the spearwoman was up to.
“Since you understand, back off immediately. Get out of our way!” said the spearwoman. She was only all the more domineering in response.
The man in Confucian robes smiled. “You brought this fellow Daoist with the power of reincarnation here. Was it perhaps to save the Undying Immortal Silkworm in the Spacetime Boundary Marker?”
“That’s right,” said the spearwoman. “Got a problem with that?”
The man in Confucian robes didn’t lose his temper. He just said gently, “Not at all. I can lead you there.”
He then faced Su Yi and gestured for him to follow before walking into the distance. The elderly dwarf followed.
The spearwoman transmitted to Su Yi, “Stay close, and don’t worry about the rest.”
Su Yi nodded.
The dead gods led the way, while Su Yi and company stuck close to the spearwoman as they proceeded further and further into this desolate landscape.
Beneath the overcast dome of heaven, the ground was deep red, as if it were completely soaked with blood. Wherever they looked, everything was barren and lifeless. Even the sound of the wind ceased; nothing remained but emptiness and desolation.
“By now, you ought to tell your plan, don’t you think?” transmitted Su Yi.
The spearwoman mulled that over, then transmitted, “So long as the dead gods of the prior epoch remain in this forbidden zone full of Undying Power, they can exist for all eternity, but there’s two things they fear above all else.
“First, the destruction of this forbidden zone. If all goes as I expect, when the Path of Divinity appears, the Immortal Realm’s chaos source will completely erupt, destroying the Place Abandoned by Heaven once and for all. In other words, if they can’t figure out a solution before the Path of Divinity appears, they’ll be destroyed.
“Second, they have a deep, instinctual fear of the power of reincarnation! These gods are long dead. No matter how powerful they were in life, the barest hint of the power of reincarnation would be enough to destroy them completely and utterly. In other words, no matter how angry they are, they have no choice but to endure. They wouldn’t dare to cause trouble.”
The spearwoman suddenly seemed worried that all of this would inflate Su Yi’s ego, so she added, “Of course, the real crux of the matter is that I’m here. You’re under my protection, so they have no choice but to swallow their anger and cooperate obediently.”
“Oh,” said Su Yi. He didn’t argue.
But the spearwoman was immensely displeased. She couldn’t help but glare at him and transmit, “As soon as I get the chance, I’m going to beat you to a pulp!”
Su Yi smiled faintly. “You’ve already lost to me twice, and three’s the limit. Lose again, and I’ll have no interest in fighting you any further.”
He’d only just said this when…
Boom!
A windstorm of black divine flames came sweeping toward them. It was indistinct, but there was a figure within the storm of black flame.
She was a woman with loose hair and deathly pale skin. Her body was covered in overlapping seams, as if there were centipedes crawling all over her. It was a startling sight.
Her black robes were torn and smeared with blood, and when she moved, black flames swept outward, connecting heaven and earth with terrifying majesty.
“That’s the woman who ambushed and injured me!” When the spearwoman saw the unearthly woman in black, her pale purple eyes flashed with murderous intent.
As she spoke to Su Yi, the man in the Confucian robes conferred with the woman in black. Who knew what he said, but the woman in black suddenly turned to look at Su Yi, then withdrew her aura and joined the other two dead gods.
But the look in her eyes made Su Yi’s heart palpitate. It was as if a ferocious god were peering up at him from the bottom of an abyss!
“How strong were they in life, anyway?” Su Yi couldn’t help but transmit.
The spearwoman said casually, “Even the weakest of them was a Master God.”
A Master God! These were the mighty experts beyond Lesser, Mid-Rank, and Greater Gods! The rulers of the God Domain!
The Dipankara Buddha of the Western Paradise’s Spirit Mountain was one such Master God.
Despite himself, Su Yi’s heart shook. Even experts as powerful as them died beneath the Epoch Tribulation?
Su Yi thought for a moment, then said, “How strong are they now?”
“Now, they’re…” The spearwoman mulled it over. “In terms of raw strength, they’re just barely comparable to Greater Gods.”
“....” Su Yi didn’t know what to say. These are experts who fell during the prior Epoch. Their bodies are in tatters, and all that remains of their souls is a thread of awareness. They’re completely shrouded in death qi. Yet they’re still somehow comparable to Greater Gods!? That’s astonishing! It’s hard to even imagine how strong they were in life.
They encountered several other dead gods along the way, both men and women. All of them looked wretched, and all had terrifying auras!
Within less than ten minutes, more than ten had joined the group!
Xi Ning and Luo Tiandu’s expressions were as grim as could be. They had to admit to themselves that if not for the spearwoman and Su Yi, they would never have made it here. They’d have been forced to retreat at the edge of the mountains, too afraid to take a single step further in.
It was just too terrifying.
Even in the God Domain, and despite their lofty statuses, they’d never seen such terrifying corpses before. These gods had died during the prior epoch, yet they still “lived on” in this highly unusual fashion. They even had a certain degree of awareness!
“Are you certain they won’t try anything?” Su Yi couldn’t help but ask.
All of the dead gods they’d encountered along the way examined him closely before joining the procession. He couldn’t help but suspect that they saw him as prey.
It was an extraordinarily uncomfortable feeling.
“I’m not certain at all,” said the spearwoman. “The Path of Divinity is due to appear within a year. I’m sure the dead gods sensed it too. That means that they’ll face complete eradication within a year. Given the circumstances, there’s no way they’ll cooperate meekly.”
She paused, then looked at Su Yi inquisitively. “If they really act up, they’re sure to target you. After all, you’re the one who controls the power of reincarnation, and you’re the one who can help them undergo reincarnation to cultivate anew. You represent a chance at new life!”
“....”
“What, are you afraid?” teased the spearwoman.
“I wouldn’t say ‘afraid,’” said Su Yi. “I just think you should have told me this earlier.”
After a moment’s silence, the spearwoman said, “Rest assured. I guarantee that you’ll leave this place alive, and I’ll make this up to you later!”
Her voice was calm, but she spoke with incontrovertible force.
Su Yi was stunned; he could detect a nigh imperceptible hint of an apology in the spearwoman’s words. That was highly unusual. There was no doubt about it: She felt bad for dragging him into this mess!

Su Yi was just about to say something when his eyes suddenly narrowed.
A swath of chaos-like clouds had arisen beneat the distant dome of heaven They were extraordinarily mysterious and ethereal. Wisps of colorful light flashed within the chaos clouds, like twinkling stars.
Upon closer inspection, they seemed impossibly far away. Su Yi couldn’t see the colorful lights clearly, nor could he tell what they were.
“Fellow Daoist Su, that’s the nascent outline of the Epoch Battlefield,” Xi Ning said suddenly.
The Epoch Battlefield!
Su Yi was stunned. He thought back to the message Xi Ning had sent him before he set off. In it, she said that signs of the Path of Divinity were appearing within the ruins leftover from the prior epoch.
This was unquestionably one of them!
