Fire Chief vs. Surgeon: A Tale of Relentless Pursuit-Chapter 785: Could It Be the Sister-in-Law?
For instance, the firewood was running low.
They had been burning it all night long, and the wood gathered in the rain yesterday had basically run out.
Even though it wasn’t necessary during the daytime, they still needed to prepare.
Besides, the village chief’s injuries were so severe, hot water might be required at any moment.
Lu Jing and an elder villager set out once again to gather wood, while Dr. Yu stayed behind to tend to the injured village chief.
Under the dense forest canopy, Lu Jing could always hear airplanes flying overhead.
But frustratingly, it seemed like those planes hadn’t noticed the distress smoke signal below.
Ah...
How much longer would they have to wait for rescue?
The main problem was that everyone else could wait, but the village chief couldn’t.
The delay had been so long, if rescue didn’t arrive soon, it really could lead to much larger and more serious problems, and by then... the consequences would be unbearable for anyone!
Unbeknownst to Lu Jing, among the airplanes that had just flown over the mountain, one of the pilots on a flight mission was Jiang Ye.
Jiang Ye had noticed something unusual the first time he flew over, so he circled back around after about fifteen minutes.
By this time, Lu Jing and the elder villager had finished gathering the needed firewood and were dragging it back to the camp.
At a glance, they could see that the fire had dwindled significantly and was about to go out.
Well, mainly because there was no more wood to add to it.
Luckily, Lu Jing and the uncle arrived back just in time.
The uncle fiddled for a while, and the flames surged higher, and naturally, the smoke thickened, drifting up through the dense woods above.
Everyone hadn’t paid much attention to this, but Dr. Yu, who had been keeping an ear out for the sound of the airplanes overhead, noticed something unusual:
"I feel like that airplane has circled over us several times now?"
Hmm???
Really?
Could you even tell that?
"How are you so sure it’s the same airplane?" Lu Jing asked.
Dr. Yu immediately laughed:
"Without getting into details, this sort of thing really comes from the ’skills of a young apprentice’ I’ve practiced since childhood. I’m sixty percent sure it’s the same airplane!"
With such a declaration, nobody was foolish, and of course, they understood why.
Lu Jing, too, was excited and knelt down to start adding wood to the fire, several pieces at a time.
"Uncle, set up another fire pile," he said.
If it was as Dr. Yu had said, then that meant someone had already noticed the situation below.
So, producing more smoke would also make it easier for search and rescue teams to find them in time.
"Alright, I’ll get on it."
Suddenly, everyone was overflowing with excitement.
After all, nobody wanted to spend another night in this forest.
It was too uncomfortable.
Furthermore, with the constant threat of aftershocks and landslides, it was far too dangerous.
Being able to evacuate as quickly as possible was, of course, the best option.
The uncle was proficient, and quickly got the second fire pile going, making the flames particularly large.
The wood that the two had just gathered for overnight use would be gone in less than an hour at this rate.
But if it burned up, it burned up; if their estimations were wrong, then they could just go gather more later.
How could a mountain this size possibly run out of wood?
That was impossible!
....
Meanwhile, Jiang Ye had reported the anomaly to his superiors as soon as he spotted it, and the search and rescue forces were mobilizing, ready to head in this direction.
As for Jiang Ye himself, he continued to circle above.
Without orders, he didn’t dare to land on his own.
Approximately forty minutes later, the assembled rescue forces finally arrived.
Among these people were those led by Jiang Ye.
"Is it my sister-in-law?"
"I think it should be, our sister-in-law is very lucky, I always said nothing would happen to her."
