Fire Chief vs. Surgeon: A Tale of Relentless Pursuit-Chapter 725: Who Did It?
Lu Jing carried the cake over:
"Coach Qin, Director Hu, here."
"Oh, thank you, Doctor Lu."
"Thank you, thank you."
Lu Jing didn’t feel comfortable joining the small group, so he started chatting with his fellow teammates instead.
As for these three men, they ate cake while, unbelievably, they began discussing serious matters.
"Old Jiang, this year the general team has introduced some new rules; the assessments are going to be tougher."
Jiang Ye’s eyes flickered:
"Oh?"
Old Qin sighed:
"They say they are adding two new assessment items. Those who fail will be let go immediately, and as of now, there’s less than half a month left to practice."
Old Qin cared deeply for his team; if they were let go, how would they survive?
Everyone knew that those with better family conditions would hardly choose firefighting as a career. They were kids from poor families, just trying to get by.
But now, policies had changed abruptly.
A group of twenty-something-year-olds with low levels of education would face problems looking for work.
Ah....
Being a coach was really worrisome.
Jiang Ye couldn’t help but frown; it was indeed quite a predicament.
"Well, let’s try to get everyone to practice as much as they can; naturally, it’s best if they pass."
As for how to filter further after the assessment, that was a matter for later.
"Today is such an important day; you should spend it with your sister-in-law. We’ll call you if needed."
A marriage proposal; a once-in-a-lifetime event.
Jiang Ye smiled:
"Alright, then we’ll head back."
"Go ahead. These kids aren’t going to calm down so quickly."
....
Lu Jing was still chatting with the teammates when Jiang Ye came over from behind:
"What are you talking about?" he asked.
Lu Jing glanced over:
"Nothing much."
Jiang Ye curved his lips:
"Let’s go, leave this to them."
Of course, Lu Jing didn’t want to stay any longer and immediately grabbed his things from the side:
"Let’s go, let’s go."
....
It wasn’t until they got home that Jiang Ye finally asked:
"Wife, what are you carrying in your hand?"
He had seen it before but hadn’t had the chance to ask.
Who knew, upon asking, Lu Jing’s face suddenly changed color.
He had actually forgotten about it.
Now, out of the corner of his eye and with a few glances, he threw the bag in his hand far away.
A reflex.
But Jiang Ye was taken aback:
"What’s wrong?"
His wife’s reaction was clearly off!
Lu Jing took several deep breaths before speaking up:
"Someone sent it to me."
Jiang Ye sensed the problem and patted his woman’s arm a couple of times before heading straight over.
He wasn’t scared, just very curious about what it could be that elicited such a strong reaction from his wife?
He had always held onto it, thinking it was something important.
He squatted down, picked up the bag, and dumped it out onto the ground.
The contents clattered out.
The stuffed teddy bear, along with the paper written in blood-red letters, appeared before Jiang Ye’s eyes.
The air in the room suddenly turned icy as though it had solidified.
"Who did this?"
"I don’t know. I asked the courier, and they said they took the order in XX community from a seventeen or eighteen-year-old boy. He didn’t see his face clearly."
Jiang Ye’s hand clenched the paper, veins standing out on the back of his hand.
"XX community? I’ll have someone check the surveillance."
This couldn’t be left unresolved.
He had to find that person and not let him off!
Jiang Ye’s bottom line was Lu Jing, and someone dared to cross it like this; what was it if not a death wish?
It should have been a happy day for a marriage proposal; yet suddenly, it had turned so utterly grim.
