Final Life Online-Chapter 250: Sun Island XX
They kept climbing. The path became rough, with ice patches and sharp rocks. Everyone moved carefully.
Sophia rubbed her arms. "It’s getting colder."
Aria nodded. "We’re getting close to the higher ridges."
Lyra pointed ahead. "There. The trail splits."
One path went up toward a narrow pass between two cliffs. The other led toward a dark opening in the rock.
Caria grinned. "Cave or cliff path. I vote cave. Less wind."
Puddle floated closer to the cave and sniffed. "Cave smells old... and quiet."
Rhys studied both routes. "The pass is open but dangerous if something attacks from above. The cave could hide enemies, but it also gives shelter."
Sophia asked softly, "Which is safer?"
Rhys thought for a moment. "We take the cave. Stay close and stay quiet."
They entered the cave. Inside, the wind stopped, but the air felt heavy and cold. Water dripped from the ceiling, echoing through the tunnel.
Lyra moved ahead, checking the ground. "Tracks. Something has been coming in and out."
Caria tightened her grip on her axe. "Big or small?"
Lyra frowned. "Big. And alone."
Aria looked around. "That’s not always better."
The cave opened into a wide chamber. At the center was a frozen pool, its surface cracked with thin lines of ice.
Puddle floated higher. "Cold... very cold..."
Suddenly, the ice cracked loudly.
Everyone froze.
The frozen pool burst open, and a large shape rose from the water. It looked like a bear made of ice and stone, with glowing blue eyes.
Sophia gasped. "Another guardian?"
Rhys stepped forward, sword ready. "Looks like it."
The ice creature let out a deep roar, shaking the cave walls.
Caria smiled. "Alright. Round two."
Rhys raised his blade. "Same plan as before. Watch for weak spots and protect each other."
The ice guardian lowered its head and began to move toward them.
The ice guardian slammed its heavy feet onto the frozen ground. Ice spread outward from where it stepped.
"Don’t let it corner us," Rhys said. "Keep moving."
The creature charged.
Caria rushed forward first, swinging her axe at its side. The blade hit hard, but thick ice blocked most of the damage.
"Tough one!" she shouted.
Lyra moved fast, circling behind it. She struck at the joints near its legs. Cracks formed in the ice.
"There!" Lyra said. "Its legs aren’t fully armored!"
Aria raised her hands and sent a strong wind blast at the guardian’s face. Ice shards flew off, and the creature staggered.
Sophia followed with light magic, hitting the cracks Lyra had made. The glow spread through the ice, weakening it.
Puddle floated nervously but focused. "Puddle help again!"
It fired a Water Jet at the guardian’s legs. The water froze instantly—but that made the ice brittle.
Rhys saw the opening. "Now!"
He rushed forward and slashed at the frozen leg. The ice shattered, and the guardian stumbled to one knee.
The creature roared and slammed its arms down. Ice spikes shot up from the ground.
"Watch your feet!" Aria warned.
Caria blocked one spike with her axe and jumped back. "Okay, that hurt a little!"
Lyra dashed in again, striking the same broken leg. "It’s slowing down!"
Sophia raised her staff higher. "I’ll support!"
A soft golden light spread around the group as Puddle joined in.
"Gleaming Halo! Friends strong!"
Warm light healed small injuries and cleared the cold from their bodies.
Rhys felt steady again. He took a deep breath and pointed at the guardian’s chest. "There’s a core inside the ice. That’s the weak spot."
Aria nodded. "I’ll open it."
She sent a focused blast of wind straight at the guardian’s chest. The ice cracked wide.
"Now!" Lyra shouted.
Caria and Rhys charged together.
Caria smashed the cracked ice with her axe, breaking it apart. Rhys followed, driving his sword straight into the glowing core.
The guardian froze in place.
Then the light faded.
The ice creature collapsed into pieces, breaking apart across the cave floor.
Silence filled the chamber.
Sophia lowered her staff. "It’s over."
Caria laughed. "That was a good fight." 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
Lyra wiped her blade clean. "We’re getting better at this."
Aria looked at Rhys. "That guardian was stronger than the others. These mountains are testing us."
Puddle floated happily. "Puddle win again!"
Rhys smiled but stayed serious. "Yes. And that means something even stronger is waiting higher up."
He looked deeper into the cave, where another tunnel led upward.
"Let’s keep moving," he said. "We’re not done yet."
They moved past the broken ice pieces and walked toward the tunnel ahead. The air inside was colder, and their footsteps echoed as they went up.
Lyra stayed in front, watching the ground. "The path goes higher. And it’s narrow."
Caria glanced around. "At least nothing is jumping out right now."
Sophia followed close behind Rhys. "I don’t like how quiet it is."
Puddle floated near the ceiling, looking around. "No shiny... but feels important."
After a short climb, the tunnel opened into another chamber. This one was smaller, but strange symbols were carved into the walls. Some of them glowed faintly blue.
Aria stopped. "These markings... they’re old. Very old."
Rhys stepped closer and touched one carefully. It was cold, but nothing happened. "This place isn’t just a cave. It’s been used before."
Lyra pointed ahead. "There’s another exit."
Beyond the chamber, the tunnel led outside. Cold wind rushed in as they stepped out.
They emerged onto a high mountain ledge. Snow covered the ground, and clouds moved slowly below them. Far ahead, a massive peak rose higher than the rest, dark and sharp against the sky.
Caria whistled. "That’s big."
Sophia hugged her cloak tighter. "And cold."
Aria narrowed her eyes. "I can feel it. Strong magic... coming from that peak."
Puddle floated closer to Rhys. "Big shiny danger ahead?"
Rhys nodded slowly. "Yes. That’s our next destination."
Lyra looked at the path leading toward the peak. "Then we should rest before moving again. We’ve fought a lot."
Rhys agreed. "We rest here. Short break. Then we move."
The team settled near the rock wall, catching their breath. The mountain wind howled softly around them.
Rhys looked at his team—tired, but steady.
"We’ve come this far," he said. "Whatever is waiting on that peak, we face it together."
Puddle nodded seriously. "Together."
