Chapter 135: Sweetie

Felicity did not move until Lucan took that step toward her.

It was only one step the effect was immediate.

Her cheeks were already flushed from the earlier moment behind Voss. The warmth had never fully left her skin after Lucan’s voice rolled across the yard and settled somewhere low in her chest. The moment he shifted forward again the strange flutter returned twice as strong.

Her instincts did not understand the reaction but her body did, she turned.

And without thinking she moved behind Victor. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Victor stood a full seven feet tall. When Felicity pressed into him she disappeared almost completely behind the broad plane of his back. Her arms slid around his waist and locked there instinctively. Her cheek pressed against the middle of his spine.

Victor felt the contact instantly. He did not turn, did not shift his stance. His eyes never left Lucan.

One hand moved behind him instead. His fingers brushed her wrist briefly checking.

She tightened her hold.

Victor’s voice dropped low "A panther, huh?" the words came quiet, thoughtful "Hmm." His gaze remained fixed on Lucan "we’ll see."

Marx screamed loudly "IM A PANTHER TOO."

Pope slapped him.

Across the ring Lucan watched the entire exchange. The way she hid behind Victor. The way her arms circled his waist.

The way she peeked once around his side and immediately ducked back when their eyes met.

Lucan smiled slowly he liked that reaction, not fear or fluster but interest buried under confusion. Seeing her like that settled something deep in his chest. Lucan stood easily in the center of the ring.

Six foot seven, in the before times he was a Billionaire CEO now he was a mercenary with Leaf Team.

Broad shoulders filling the sunlight as he rolled his neck slowly. His skin carried the warm bronze tone of someone who had spent years under open sky. Thin white scars crossed both arms and a longer one cut across his collarbone where a blade had once slipped too close.

His black hair sat shaggy and short, dark strands falling forward in a way that made it look almost wet, sharp and focused silver eyes.

The small ring through his lower lip caught the light when he smiled. His hands flexed once.

Hands that had been around Felicity’s waist minutes earlier.

He inhaled. Her scent reached him again, all he could smell was the warmth and sweetness, Lucan’s instincts stirred instantly, biology did not ask permission. His gaze slid back to Victor, then to the blonde fox half hidden behind him.

"Hey sweetie." His voice rolled across the yard again. It sounded deep, husky and dripping with honey. The kind of tone that felt like it brushed the skin.

"You hiding back there?"

Felicity froze. Her fingers tightened in Victor’s shirt.

Lucan chuckled softly.

Victor’s jaw flexed.

Lucan leaned slightly to the side, trying to catch a better glimpse around Victor’s massive frame. "There you are." His silver eyes softened slightly. "You alright?"

The question sounded casual. It wasn’t.

Felicity peeked around Victor’s arm again before she could stop herself "I’m fine." She squeaked, her voice came out quieter than she intended.

Lucan’s mouth curved "Good." His gaze moved slowly over her face, then to her hip and back up.

Victor noticed his shoulders shifted a fraction.

Lucan lifted his hands lightly "no trouble. His head tilted toward Damien. "You keen?"

The yard reacted immediately.

Marx groaned under his breath from the wall "oh hell."

Legend straightened where he leaned against the stone. The shadows beneath his boots deepened almost unconsciously.

Draco folded his massive arms slowly.

Colt muttered something low and irritated beside him.

Damien stepped forward, his expression had gone very still. His hands hung loose at his sides but the faint sheen of toxin had already started to spread beneath the skin across his fingers.

Lucan had touched her.

Lucan had held her.

Lucan had smiled at her like that.

Damien’s eyes flicked past Lucan once.

Felicity still clung to Victor’s back.

Victor did not move.

Damien inhaled, the poison thickened.

Lucan’s grin sharpened slightly.

Victor spoke "Ring."

The circle opened again.

Damien stepped forward.

Lucan followed.

Neither rushed, air tightened Lucan studied Damien for a moment, then glanced sideways, his eyes found Felicity again. She was peeking around Victor’s arm.

Lucan winked.

The butterflies in her chest exploded. She jerked back behind Victor immediately.

Lucan chuckled.

Damien moved the poison strike came fast and clean, and he used it to control Lucans movements.

Lucan teleported.

Damien turned instantly, the toxin slash followed Lucan’s reappearance like a shadow. Lucan barely cleared it, their bodies collided.

Damien’s elbow drove into Lucan’s ribs.

Lucan vanished, reappeared behind him.

Damien pivoted.

Poison flashed.

Lucan’s forearm caught the strike, the toxin burned immediately.

Felicity gasped softly.

Victor’s hand tightened once where it rested behind his back.

Damien pressed forward.

Lucan retreated two steps.

Teleport.

Strike.

Teleport.

Poison.

The duel accelerated quickly.

Lucan’s speed clashed with Damien’s precision, every exchange carried real danger now. Lucan avoided most of the poison but not all of it, one cut grazed his ribs, another brushed his wrist. Lucan’s breathing deepened slightly.

Leaf Team watched closely.

Richard stood perfectly still.

Thane’s wings twitched once.

Exile’s eyes remained locked on Felicity.

Snow Team watched with something sharper.

Ivan leaned forward.

Tommy muttered encouragement.

Marx noticed something else.

Felicity’s eyes stayed fixed on Lucan. Her breathing looked shallow, cheeks were still flushed.

Marx leaned slightly toward Kai "That’s not shy."

Kai followed his gaze.

Felicity watched Lucan move through Damien’s attacks like someone mesmerized.

Kai nodded slowly "Yeah."

Marx smirked faintly "She’s gone."

Back in the ring Damien lunged again.

Lucan teleported above him his foot slammed into Damien’s shoulder.

Damien hit the dirt.

The yard roared.

Lucan stood over him for a second then stepped back.

Damien pushed himself up slowly the poison faded.

The duel had ended.

Victor finally turned his head slightly "Felicity."

She looked up immediately.

"You alright?"

She nodded quickly "yes" her voice softened when she answered "I’m okay, you’re here."

Victor’s shoulders loosened slightly.

Across the ring Lucan watched that moment, his smile returned slowly possessive, curious and

Interested. His eyes drifted back to Felicity again "You still owe me one, sweetie."

Her face turned red instantly.

Victor’s jaw tightened.

Someone inhaled sharply. Someone else almost spoke, stopped mid breath. The yard did not relax after the first exchange, if anything the air tightened further.

Lucan and Damien stood ten feet apart again, dust still drifting between them from the impact that had thrown Damien to the ground seconds earlier. Neither man looked winded. Neither man looked satisfied.

The duel had not ended. Everyone in the yard understood that.

Victor had not stepped in.

Dimitri had not called it.

Damien had not yielded.

Lucan had not left.

Which meant the fight continued.

Felicity still clung to Victor’s back. Her arms wrapped around his waist because she had not realized she was still holding him. Victor noticed. He did not move her hands away. His gaze stayed locked on Lucan while Felicity’s cheek pressed between his shoulder blades, she peeked around his side again.

Lucan noticed immediately. His mouth curved slightly "Still watching?"

Her face turned red again, she ducked behind Victor.

Victor’s jaw tightened.

Across the yard Damien moved again, this time he did not test the distance he closed it he was fast. Poison flashed across his hands like liquid glass as he lunged for Lucan’s throat. The strike was meant to end the fight quickly.

Lucan teleported the ground cracked where Damien’s strike landed. Lucan reappeared behind him.

Damien spun immediately his poisoned hand caught Lucan across the ribs, the toxin grazed skin.

Lucan hissed.

Damien pressed forward.

Their bodies collided again, fists ,elbows and poison, the rhythm changed from controlled duel to something rougher.

Lucan’s teleportation flickered in shorter bursts now.

Damien had started anticipating the angles, poison strikes cut across the air where Lucan had been half a second earlier.

Lucan’s forearm caught another graze, the toxin burned. Lucan’s smile sharpened.

Snow Team leaned forward.

Ivan’s eyes narrowed.

Tommy whispered under his breath "careful..."

Sam watched with quiet interest, shadows curling faintly around his boots.

Shadow’s arms folded tighter.

Sarge rubbed his jaw slowly.

Marx watched Felicity instead of the fight.

Her eyes were glued to Lucan. Her breathing had gone shallow again. Her fingers clutched Victor’s shirt.

Marx leaned toward Kai slightly "She’s not scared."

Kai glanced over.

Felicity’s gaze followed Lucan every time he teleported.

Kai’s mouth curved faintly.

"Yeah."

Marx snorted quietly.

"Uh oh."

Leaf Team reacted differently.

Richard’s posture had gone completely still.

Thane’s wings shifted.

Future Sight opened again. The yard fractured. Hundreds of outcomes.

Damien winning.

Lucan winning.

Snow Team joining the fight.

Leaf Team stepping in.

And threaded through too many of them.

Her.

Felicity.

Standing close to him.

Her head tilted back, her breathing uneven, her hands gripping his shoulders while..

Thane shut the ability down instantly.

His face warmed again. He stared at the dirt instead of the ring.

Lucan teleported again.

Damien anticipated it.

The poison slash cut across Lucan’s shoulder this time.

Lucan staggered half a step.

Snow Team reacted instantly.

Victor straightened slightly.

Ivan’s hands curled.

Damien advanced. The poison would slow Lucan soon.

Lucan wiped blood from his shoulder with two fingers, then looked past Damien, at Felicity and he winked.

Her stomach flipped, she tightened her grip around Victor again.

Lucan laughed softly, then vanished this teleport came closer than before.

Damien barely turned in time.

Lucan’s fist slammed into his ribs.

Damien’s elbow cracked against Lucan’s jaw.

Both men stumbled then came forward again the fight accelerated.

Teleport.

Poison.

Strike.

Counter.

The yard watched.

No one spoke.

Snow Team’s tension thickened.

Ivan leaned toward the ring slightly.

"If he touches her again.."

Victor didn’t look at him.

Ivan stopped talking.

Damien lunged.

Lucan vanished. Reappeared above him. His foot caught Damien’s shoulder.

Damien crashed into the dirt again.

The ground shook.

Lucan stood over him.

Damien rolled immediately.

Poison flashed upward.

Lucan teleported again.

The toxin missed by inches.

Lucan landed lightly. His breathing had deepened now. The poison was still in his blood.

Damien stood slowly.

The yard remained silent.

Lucan glanced toward Felicity again.

She was still peeking around Victor’s arm eyes wide and her cheeks pink.

Lucan’s voice carried across the yard again "you alright over there, sweetie?"

Felicity froze.

Victor’s shoulders stiffened.

Felicity nodded automatically even though Lucan hadn’t actually asked her that time.

Lucan’s smile softened.

Damien attacked again. Their bodies collided harder now, the duel had crossed into something else. Not anger, not pride but possession.

Damien’s poisoned hand caught Lucan’s side again. Lucan’s fist slammed into Damien’s jaw. Both men staggered.

Snow Team shifted forward half a step.

Leaf Team mirrored the movement instantly.

The yard felt too small.

Thane’s wings twitched again future threads flickered open against his will and again. Felicity appeared inside them closer too close panting his grip tightening around her hips while... Thane closed the vision violently. His jaw tightened.

Lucan teleported again.

Damien followed.

Their strikes blurred together, dust rose around them.

Lucan stepped inside Damien’s guard, their foreheads nearly touched. Lucan’s voice dropped low "Careful."

Damien’s teeth showed slightly.

Someone behind them inhaled sharply. Someone else almost spoke and stopped.
