Felicity's Beast World Apocalypse-Chapter 109: Home?
Snow Team did not respond with words they rarely did when something mattered.
But something shifted anyway.
Tails moved in subtle arcs. Postures eased without loosening. Attention tightened instead of scattering. Even Legend, who never bothered hiding his reactions, glanced away briefly as if the moment was too intimate to look at directly.
Victor’s hold did not loosen.
If anything, the arm around Felicity’s waist settled more firmly, not restraining, not claiming in a way that needed naming, just present. She leaned into it without thought, as naturally as someone leaning into warmth on a cold night.
Someone drew breath as if to say something that would fracture the quiet no one spoke.
Her tail moved slowly behind her, swaying in an easy rhythm that matched the soft lift and fall of her breathing. "I didn’t have anyone," she said again after a while.
Her tone was light. Thoughtful. As if she were recalling a story rather than something that had once shaped her entire existence.
Ivan’s jaw tightened.
Voss glanced toward her without fully turning his head.
Damien kept his gaze on the path ahead, but the line of his shoulders shifted just slightly.
"No parents," she continued. "No cousins. No grandparents."
Her fingers curled loosely into Victor’s collar.
"No one to visit during holidays. No one to miss when I moved."
She smiled faintly "I used to pretend the animals at the shop were my family."
The words did not carry sadness.
They carried familiarity.
"I gave them names," she added with a soft laugh. "Talked to them when I was closing up."
Pope made a quiet sound that might have been amusement.
Kai’s hand tightened on his pack strap.
Ash looked down for a moment before lifting his gaze again.
Sam’s breathing slowed.
Victor did not move.
But the pressure of his hand at her side increased just enough for her to feel it.
"This feels like what I imagined back then," she said.
Her eyes moved across them one by one.
"You’re loud."
Pope smiled faintly.
"You fight."
Ash nodded once.
"You take each other’s food."
Kai looked offended "that was one time."
"You annoy each other."
Marx laughed outright.
"That is daily."
"But you stay," she said quietly.
The word settled.
"You stay," she repeated.
Her tail swung again. Light. Certain.
"And I get to stay too."
Silence followed.
Marx walked just behind them, watching.
Watching the way she leaned into Victor without hesitation.
Watching the way Victor adjusted his hold without being asked.
Watching the way the formation shifted naturally around her.
He spoke quietly "she hasn’t marked us yet."
No one answered "but we already wear her."
Kai blinked.
Ash glanced sideways.
Ivan’s fingers flexed once.
Victor did not turn.
But his jaw shifted slightly.
Ahead of them, another group moved slowly, guiding a woman who struggled to keep pace.
Felicity watched her fingers tightened faintly against Victor’s collar.
He felt it.
His hold adjusted again.
Draco drifted closer without being called.
Victor did not acknowledge it.
But his shoulders lowered slightly.
Legend broke the quiet.
"So the light told you to recruit now?"
Kai exhaled sharply "it didn’t say that."
Ash smirked "you just heard what you wanted."
Legend snorted "That’s usually how belief works."
Pope grinned "You’re welcome to listen next time."
Legend’s gaze shifted to Felicity to the way she rested easily in Victor’s arms, to the way the others closed around her without needing instruction.
His mouth opened.
Closed.
The other groups on the road moved differently.
Their steps were heavy their conversations were thin their eyes scanned constantly.
Snow Team moved like danger would be handled when it arrived.
Felicity’s brightness had softened after speaking about her past, but it had not dimmed. It had simply settled deeper.
Her tail continued to sway.
Damien’s voice broke the quiet.
Low "I wonder if any of our families are alive."
It did not sound hopeful.
It sounded curious.
"Has anyone thought about looking for them."
Ivan made a quiet sound.
Marx spoke next "I thought about it," he said "But I’ve always focused on my team."
He glanced at Felicity "I see my team as family."
She nodded.
Shadow shifted " my family kicked me out young," he said.
Draco followed "my brother and sister are in another base. I know they’re fine."
Tommy cleared his throat "why don’t we all just get married together," he said brightly "then we can all be family."
Pope hit him.
Tommy yelped "that was a suggestion."
Sarge adjusted his pack "I used to think I’d make my own family," he said "Then I got used to not needing one."
Ash laughed softly "That sounds like you."
Pope glanced at Felicity "you changed that."
She blinked "I didn’t do anything."
Ivan spoke quietly "you stayed."
She smiled her tail moved again.
Happy.
The road widened.
More groups moved toward Vineyard.
"They look like they’re waiting for something," she said.
Sam followed her gaze "they are."
Victor’s grip tightened slightly when one stranger’s gaze lingered too long.
Draco shifted closer.
Victor did not acknowledge it.
Legend glanced back.
"You’re doing it again."
Tommy cleared his throat "I still think the marriage idea had merit."
Pope hit him again.
Felicity giggled the sound softened the air.
By the time Vineyard came into full view, it no longer looked like a place that had simply survived.
It looked like a place that had decided to live the outer walls were reinforced watch platforms lined the corners.
Movement was constant.
Structure had taken root.
Victor slowed.
Snow Team adjusted.
This was not an entry.
This was a return.
The gates were open but guarded.
"Snow Team," one guard said the gates were open, but not casually.
Two guards stepped forward as Snow Team approached, their posture was respectful, but firm in a way that did not invite discussion.
Recognition came quickly relief did not.
"Snow Team," one of them said.
Victor inclined his head slightly in acknowledgment.
The guard did not return the gesture. Instead, he lifted one hand and pointed sharply to the left "step aside."
The word was polite.
The tone was not.
Snow Team slowed as one.
Around them, movement shifted.
Three more male guards peeled away from the wall and moved in a loose arc. They spread out just enough to flank without touching. Their weapons were not raised, but their hands were not relaxed either.
The formation tightened instinctively.
Kai’s shoulders went still.
Sam’s gaze sharpened.
Sarge stepped half a pace closer to Felicity without looking at her.
Voss shifted nearer on her other side.
Victor did not move.
"We need you to move left," the guard said again. "Protocol."
Marx exhaled through his nose.
Legend murmured under his breath, "Here we go."
Tommy blinked rapidly like he was calculating whether fainting would help.
The guards continued.
"Woah, chill," one added quickly when he noticed the tension snapping tight across Snow Team’s line. "We need to check you. Make sure none of you have been bitten."
The words were practical the delivery was not, their eyes lingered on Felicity.
That was the mistake.
Ivan stepped forward before anyone else could "You will not touch our wife."
The words were quiet, but stern, absolute.
The guards tensed instantly hands tightened.
Shoulders squared.
Victor’s wings shifted faintly behind him.
Damien’s smile thinned.
Voss did not move, but the air around him sharpened.
For half a second, it felt like the gates might become a battlefield.
Then one of the guards lifted his hands slightly "We understand," he said carefully. "We’ll get a female guard."
Ivan did not blink.
He held their gaze.
Only when the guard turned and called toward the interior did Ivan step back again.
Damien remained coiled, ready.
Watching.
Felicity, meanwhile, had crouched near the edge of the road she had found a cluster of small stones.
She was arranging them carefully.
One here one there, a little wall a doorway.
Possibly a roof.
For ants.
Or something else only she understood.
Voss glanced down at her and chuckled softly.
Ivan did not.
He kept staring at the guards.
Eventually, a woman approached from inside the gate.
She moved with confidence.
Practical.
Unimpressed.
"Protocol," she said simply as she stopped in front of them.
Ivan watched her for a moment.
Then stepped aside.
The checks were quick.
Efficient.
Professional.
Victor did not relax.
Voss did not move from Felicity’s side.
Felicity did not stop building.
When the woman finished, she nodded once.
"Clear."
The tension eased just enough to breathe Ivan’s shoulders lowered by a fraction.
Victor’s wings settled.
People carried crates. Voices overlapped. Training drills rang somewhere to the right in controlled bursts of impact and breath. The air carried the smell of cooked grain and metal and bodies that had survived too long to waste motion.
Victor stepped forward.
Snow Team moved with him.
The moment they crossed the threshold, the difference became obvious.
This was not a place clinging to survival.
This was a place that had decided to organize it.
Paths ran deliberately between structures instead of forming by accident. Storage zones were marked. Rotations moved with rhythm instead of panic. Timber braces reinforced stone walls like ribs. Platforms connected by walkways instead of ladders.
People moved with purpose not fear.
Felicity’s gaze moved across it slowly.
Her tail stilled.
Victor felt it immediately his arm tightened.
Then she froze.
It was not dramatic.
No sharp intake of breath.
Across the open space near the inner courtyard, someone else had stopped moving too.
