Chapter 87: Chapter 84: The Gourmet Chapter for the Evening

Listening to the pouring rain outside while eating a steaming hot pot on a day so cold it made you shiver—it was a pleasure for both body and soul!

’Just thinking about it makes my mouth water.’

An Jin sliced the chunks of mutton Mi Yin had already prepared into thin pieces.

The fresh mutton had a fine, almost translucent grain, streaked with red. She rolled up the slices and arranged them neatly on a bamboo platter, adding two small green leaves on the side for garnish.

’Classy. Sophisticated.’

Once the pot was hot, she brushed a layer of fruit oil onto the bottom of the large stone pot. She then added the seasoning base—prepared earlier by mashing chili peppers and other spices—into the boiling oil to stir-fry. Once it was fragrant, she poured in half a pot of water.

PSSHSHH.

The aroma of the flash-fried spices filled the air.

The hot pot broth, roiling with red chili oil, let off billows of white steam.

An Jin couldn’t hold back any longer. Licking her lips in anticipation, she picked up two clean, straight twigs to use as chopsticks, grabbed a roll of mutton, and swished it around in the hot pot.

She cooked it for about a minute.

Under the astonished gazes of the three males beside her, she blew on the meat to cool it, then impatiently dipped the mutton roll into the sauce and popped it into her mouth.

’AWOO~ This is so delicious!’

An Jin happily squinted her eyes as she chewed on the spicy, tender mutton roll. ’This is simply divine!’

This was her first time eating hot pot in the Beast World, and it was just as satisfying as she remembered.

"Y-You guys should try it too!"

Her tongue was tingling from the heat, making her voice tremble. The three males glanced at one another. Mi Yin and Xi, being cold-blooded creatures wary of the heat, both instinctively took a step back.

Ling Hong, however, was brave enough to be the pack leader, reaching his paw directly into the hot pot.

"Hey! Use chopsticks! Don’t use your hand, you’ll burn yourself!"

Luckily, An Jin yanked his paw back at the last second and shoved two wooden sticks into his hand. "Use these to get the meat out, let it cool on a plate, then dip it in the sauce to eat."

Ling Hong gave her a confused look, his wolf ears drooping. He then lowered his head and, gripping the chopsticks as clumsily as a child, tried to imitate how she had picked up the meat. After failing twice, he actually succeeded in grabbing a piece.

Ling Hong’s tastes were similar to An Jin’s; they both loved spicy food. Soon, the two were happily gorging themselves, their mouths glistening with oil.

Mi Yin and Xi seemed to have no intention of eating the hot pot. Just smelling the pungent, spicy aroma made their faces flush. They figured one bite would probably burn their tongues right off.

So, An Jin roasted some meat for the two of them, making sure to leave out the spicy sauce.

The leg of lamb, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, sizzled as juices oozed out. Sprinkled with chopped green onions, its tempting aroma was enough to make anyone’s mouth water.

Xi took a skeptical bite, and his eyes immediately lit up. "AWOO~ This is so delicious!"

’As expected, if you stick with Ah Jin, there’s always plenty of delicious food.’

The mutton had been prepared well, and the seasonings were robust, perfectly masking its characteristic gamy flavor.

The skin of the lamb leg was roasted to a delicious crisp, but one bite sent an explosion of savory juice across his tongue. ’It’s so good I could cry!’

Mi Yin’s face was still a little flushed, but judging by the speed at which he was devouring the food, he clearly approved of the roasted lamb leg.

They had nearly finished the entire sheep, but Beastmen have enormous appetites. Seeing that the three of them still weren’t full, An Jin suddenly remembered the seafood she’d stored in the ice cellar a few days ago. It would spoil if they didn’t eat it soon, so it was the perfect time to make a few side dishes to round out the meal.

Sashimi, lobster sashimi, crab paste, and steamed egg with crab roe.

Since these dishes were all served raw, Mi Yin and Xi were clearly much more interested in them.

An Jin was already full, but she still picked up a couple of pieces of sashimi to taste.

She’d been worried it might not be fresh after sitting for two days, but to her surprise, the sashimi had no off-taste at all. In fact, it was exceptionally fresh and sweet, with a firm, pleasant texture.

After everyone had eaten and drunk their fill, the grand feast came to an end.

An Jin squeezed some sweet and sour berry juice to drink, which was perfect for cutting the lingering oiliness from the meal.

"AWOO!"

"Our tribe is gone! There was a beast tide nearby! Please let us take shelter here for a few days!"

"We’re starving! We’re willing to trade Crystal Cores for food!"

A commotion erupted from outside the tribe—a mixture of voices and unfamiliar bestial roars. The group, who had just eaten their fill and were about to rest, rushed to look out the window.
