Favorite of the Beast-world: I Got Rich Through Farming-Chapter 38 - 37: Take Good Care of My Female.
Ling Hong rushed back to the tribe. The wooden cabin’s door was ajar, and the disgusting scent of a Snake Beast lingered in the air.
In the desolate night, the Silver Wolf let out a furious roar. With bloodshot eyes, he slammed his body directly into the wooden door, bursting it open.
Unable to stop his momentum, he nearly stepped on the little female sleeping soundly on the hay pile.
He quickly lifted his paw, holding it frozen in mid-air before slowly lowering it to the ground.
"Awooo?" The Silver Wolf lowered his head slightly and blinked, seemingly still not having recovered from the shock.
The repulsive scent of a male from the Snake Clan filled the house, a clear sign that the male Snake Clan Beastman had been there.
’Why... why didn’t he take An Jin?’
Ling Hong couldn’t understand it at all; it felt like he was in a dream.
The Silver Wolf circled the sleeping female several times. He gently nudged her head with his own snowy-white one. When she didn’t wake, he carefully sniffed around her, his glossy black nose twitching from time to time.
Other than the faint scent of the Snake Beast clinging to her, there seemed to be... nothing else unusual.
’Seeing as she’s still unconscious, she’s probably just suffering from a mild snake venom. A good sleep should be enough for her to recover.’
But he still couldn’t understand. With such a perfect opportunity, why hadn’t that Snake Clan Beastman taken An Jin?
The Snake Beast’s scent now violently permeated every corner, every grain of sand in the house.
A low snarl rumbled in the Silver Wolf’s throat. He was angry, furious, and couldn’t bear it.
He scrubbed his body against the stone house like a giant white brush, not missing a single corner. The Silver Wolf rubbed himself forcefully all over the entire cabin at least three times.
After confirming that he had covered up the Snake Beast’s scent, the Silver Wolf looked at An Jin, who was not in any mortal danger for the time being, and his heart finally settled.
The moment his body relaxed after having sprinted for nearly ten thousand meters, a tide of exhaustion instantly washed over him.
But then, the Silver Wolf shook his head and stood up again. An even thicker enmity radiated from his emerald-green eyes. With a low growl in his throat, he shot out of the stone house like an arrow loosed from a bow.
BANG—
The door, already more than half-damaged, could finally take an early retirement.
Under the thick, black curtain of night, the Silver Wolf lurked in the shadows, his beast eyes, which glowed with a faint green light, flickering in the darkness.
He desperately sniffed the lingering scent in the air, confirming that the Snake Beast hadn’t gone far. After crossing half a ravine, Ling Hong finally found the Snake Beast he so despised.
Creeping closer, inch by inch, the Silver Wolf shot out like a sharp sword, aiming straight for the snake’s vital point.
He planned to use the same old trick as last time to grievously wound the snake again. If possible, he would kill it on the spot.
But he never expected the Snake Beast’s reaction speed to be even faster than before. The instant he pounced, its nearly ten-meter-long, black-and-red tail had already whipped through the air.
BOOM—
The Silver Wolf was sent flying in the opposite direction. A huge boulder collapsed, and shattered rocks buried him completely.
"I won’t kill you."
Mi Yin turned, his blade-like snake eyes looking down at the pile of rubble with thick scorn. "I’ll spare your life. Take good care of my female."
His lazy tone was calm and gentle, not showing the slightest ripple, yet it couldn’t hide the bloodthirsty danger unique to a Wandering Beast. "After she comes of age, I will come to take her myself."
The nearly ten-meter-long, black-and-red tail swayed slightly and vanished into the jungle in an instant, leaving only a single sentence lingering in the air—
"But if I find your scent on her, I will kill you both."
"Cough, cough..."
The silver-haired man struggled to climb out from under the rocks. His body was stained with blood, and his strong, sturdy frame was covered in cuts from the sharp, broken stones, but he didn’t seem to care at all.
He just stared fixedly into the deep, dark jungle in disbelief, unable to snap out of it for a long time.
He never imagined the Snake Beast’s power had advanced to such a degree. In their last fight, he had been able to fight the Snake Beast to a standstill, managing to grievously wound it with a surprise attack because it had been weakened from just having mated.
But this time, he could feel that his opponent’s aura had undergone an earth-shattering change.
He had actually been pushed to the brink of death.
’I can’t believe it. The Snake Beast’s strength has actually broken through to the Sixth Rank. In this jungle, that’s a terrifying level of power...’
Ling Hong didn’t dare to give chase again. After testing his enemy’s strength, he was utterly shocked and on high alert.
But he was furious over the Snake Beast’s words. It was as if, in that Snake Beast’s eyes, An Jin was already his exclusive property.
Ling Hong clenched his fists, his eyes churning with violent emotion.
’Impossible!’
’And taking her away? That’s just wishful thinking!’
Only after washing off all the blood did Ling Hong return to the stone house. He sat down beside An Jin and stared blankly at her sleeping face for a long time.
She had several bite marks on her body, and her lips were red and swollen. ’It’s my fault. I failed to protect her.’
Ling Hong’s heart clenched, aching with pain. His deep, emerald-green eyes gradually lost their focus, looking vacant.
Afraid the Snake Beast might go back on its word and return, Ling Hong didn’t sleep all night, simply standing guard over her until morning.
Dawn broke and the sky brightened. The ceaseless chirping of waking birds filled the air.
Mellow sunlight streamed through the window, casting a thin halo of light upon the female’s dazed eyes.
An Jin yawned the moment she woke up. She rubbed her temples; her head felt groggy as if she hadn’t fully woken up. Her body felt as heavy as lead and she had no strength; even stretching was an effort.
The moment she opened her eyes, she saw Ling Hong, who had been gone for days, crouching beside her and staring at her without blinking.
"..." An Jin was startled. She blinked and saw that his body was covered in wounds.
"How did you get hurt?"
An Jin scrambled up from the hay pile, found a clean, previously tanned animal hide, and began to bandage his wounds.
"It’s nothing. I ran into a pack of beasts while hunting and got hurt by accident. It’ll heal on its own in a couple of days."
After saying this, Ling Hong left the room without waiting for An Jin to reply.
An Jin froze for a moment. ’Is it just my imagination, or did I... just see a trace of defeat on Ling Hong’s face?’
’It must be my imagination. Ling Hong is such a proud wolf.’ An Jin shook her groggy head. "Hiss," she winced, feeling a dull ache in her body, but she didn’t give it much thought.
Braving the scorching sun, she ran out of the house and over to the enclosure, eager to check on the growth of her "big silkworm babies."
She saw the big white worms inside the enclosure, wriggling with great effort. They seemed to be trying to twist their way out of the stone barricade, but their bodies were too fat and heavy. They would only climb halfway before sliding back down like a big, lardy slab of meat.
After sliding down a few times, they gave up, lying limp and motionless on the ground. A few thread-like substances emerged from the dozen or so black pores on their sides.
’These big white worms are so cute.’
The thought that they would be able to spin silk in a few more months made An Jin find the blob-like worms even cuter.
Unable to resist the urge to tease them, she picked up a long twig from the ground and poked one of the "silkworm babies."
The "silkworm baby" twisted its body and opened its mouth to bite.
CRUNCH—
The twig snapped in two. The other half was still being chewed in its mouth.
In that one bite, the giant worm’s hidden mouth had suddenly opened wider than its head, revealing dozens of rows with nearly a thousand sharp teeth that flashed for an instant—an incredible bite force. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
CRUNCH, CRUNCH—
The twig was chewed into splinters by the giant worm and swallowed. ’Is this what they call "super crunchy?"’ she wondered.
An Jin was dumbfounded.
Seeing this, the other "silkworm babies" all swarmed toward An Jin, tilting their pale white heads up at their keeper, begging for food.
