Chapter 337: Chapter 220: What Should I Call You? And It’s Actually Her

"So, from the moment we found the Demon Beastmen in the city, we’d already fallen into their trap."

"They couldn’t get close to me easily because you were by my side. So, they deliberately released all those Demon Beastmen as a decoy to distract us."

"The moment they lured us from the city, they’d already won..." An Jin sighed, her fingers clenching unconsciously. The chaotic mess of thoughts in her mind began to untangle and clarify.

"By the time we followed the clues to this forest, we’d already been unknowingly transported to another dimension—to a nearly identical forest. What awaited us next was this incredibly realistic Illusion Realm."

"Whatever their plans are for you, you’ll be safe once I kill them," Mi Yin said with a cold laugh.

Ze Sheng chuckled, comforting her. "Don’t be afraid. I’m here. Those people can’t hurt you." His hand hovered over her fluffy head, and he stared at it for a moment, as if a strange magic was compelling him to reach down and give it a pat.

His long, slender fingers twitched, but in the end, he pulled his hand back. "...Jin’er?" he asked softly.

"That’s my name for her," Mi Yin growled, looking murderous.

Ze Sheng, however, ignored the murderous intent boring into his back. He smiled gently at the female in his arms, a hint of sorrow lurking in his eyes. "Can I call you Jin’er? Or... what should I call you?"

An unexpected wave of sorrow washed over her, gripping her mind and heart.

The instant their eyes met, An Jin suddenly found it hard to breathe. She quickly lowered her head, feeling herself drowning in those gentle, sorrowful purple eyes.

"Anything is fine," she whispered.

Sensing the violent jealousy radiating from the person beside her, she quickly corrected herself. "Call me Ah Jin. Everyone calls me that, and I really like the nickname."

Only then did Mi Yin let out a dissatisfied, cold huff.

Ze Sheng’s lashes trembled. Sorrow and joy warred in his heart, tangling together. At last, a faint smile touched his crimson lips as he ruffled her hair. "Alright. Whatever you say, Ah Jin..."

’Ah Jin,’ he repeated over and over in his mind.

’Whether she was Wamiya or Ah Jin, he would like her, protect her, and... love her, unconditionally.’

Mi Yin watched their interaction coolly. The initial flicker of joy in his eyes quickly vanished, and his half-lidded red pupils turned dark and heavy.

"Look at that vortex," he said flatly. "I’ve detected another power inside it. One that gives even me pause."

Ze Sheng and An Jin followed his gaze. The three of them moved closer to the vortex, stopping just at the edge of its pull.

"It seems the legends are true," Ze Sheng said.

Noticing their questioning looks, he smiled faintly and continued, "Legend has it that long, long ago, the King Beasts of that era joined forces to seal a colossal ancient monster in a secret, forbidden land. It was a nightmare, but it was also the true king of all Demon Beasts." 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

"Countless Demon Beastmen have tried to resurrect it, but its release requires a very specific, demanding condition. The ancient King Beasts scattered the knowledge of this secret among several races on the continent. As for why, I do not know."

"While I don’t know why they want to capture Jin’er, I imagine you must possess some other secret that made you their only choice."

"For example..." He looked at her, his gaze profound. "A different soul."

In that instant, An Jin was struck by the horrifying realization that her secret might have been discovered. But the probing look in Ze Sheng’s eyes vanished in a flash, so quickly it was as if it had never been there at all.

Mi Yin said coldly, "Jin’er is just an ordinary female from the tribe. As for any other secrets she might have, that’s none of your concern."

The atmosphere between the two men grew tense again, thick with the unspoken threat of a fight.

’Seeing their reactions, I’m even more convinced they’re real,’ An Jin thought. ’No... I can’t...’ She shook her head, conflicted. ’The illusions get more realistic every time.’

But after observing them for so long, she truly couldn’t find a single flaw in their reactions.

She didn’t know Ze Sheng well, but she knew Mi Yin’s disposition like the back of her hand. Every single one of his actions and movements felt completely real.

An Jin decided to trust her instincts one more time. This was it. If this turned out to be fake too, she would really start to question her own sanity.

"There’s one more thing I forgot to mention," she said, carefully studying their reactions as she chose her words deliberately. "The previous impostors... they all tried to lead me to the end of this path. Once we got here, the third one tried to drag me into this vortex."

"Also, tonight is a double full moon," she added, looking at them both. "Does a double full moon have any special meaning that you know of?"

"A double full moon is exceptionally rare," Ze Sheng answered. "The blue moon is full about once a month, while the red moon is full about once a year. According to ancient records, we are lucky to witness a double full moon perhaps once a century."

And the last double full moon...

His expression suddenly filled with shock.

’The last double full moon...’ Ze Sheng’s expression grew complex and shocked as he looked at An Jin. He pressed his lips together, but said nothing.

Things were, it seemed, far more complicated than he had imagined.

The glow of the double full moon intensified, its brilliance like daylight, scattering even the thick, dark clouds. The once-gloomy forest brightened, and the harsh, grating caws of crows echoed from the trees.

Flying high in the sky with Ze Sheng, An Jin could finally see the countless pairs of bloodshot red eyes lurking deep within the jungle below. A chill ran down her spine.

They were Demon Beasts, monsters formed from coalesced Demonic Qi. They held their heads high, staring hungrily at An Jin, but the powerful auras of the two top-tier King Beasts beside her forced them to keep their claws retracted.

Just as they were about to fly out of the Illusion Realm, a vicious attack shot toward her. Ze Sheng threw his arm out in front of her, instantly deflecting it.

"Who’s there?"

he demanded in a low, cold voice.

"It’s those two pests again," Mi Yin snarled, before leaping down into the forest below.

Immediately, two black figures tangled together. They were thrown apart, only to clash again. Mi Yin clearly had the upper hand. He grabbed the black-clad figure by the head, about to smash it into the ground.

But in an instant, the dark brown earth transformed into a lake.

Both Mi Yin and the black-clad figure plunged into the lake of unknown depth, sending a giant wave several meters high into the air, followed by a cascade of spray.

Beneath the shade of a leafy tree, a black-haired youth sat with his legs crossed. His face, framed by messy, cropped black hair, looked a bit boyish and nonchalant. A teardrop mole at the corner of his eye gave him a cold, alluring charm.

With his scales gone, his somewhat slender frame was covered in scars. It was a kind of beauty born of wounds—broken, yet resilient.

His heavy gaze was fixed on the female across from him. His fingers rested unconsciously on the rough tree trunk, picking off a whole piece of bark.

’To think, the person they’d been searching for all this time...’

’...was actually her.’

"..." Qi Yuan bit his lip and lowered his dark eyes. His hands, at his sides, clenched into tight fists. His cold expression was unreadable, betraying neither joy nor anger.
