Favorite of the Beast-world: I Got Rich Through Farming-Chapter 307 - 198: You Still Don’t Understand & Drunk
An Jin looked at the group.
"It’s about ready," she said, pouring several bowls and handing them over. "Have a taste. Let me know if you like it."
She had also been forced to wake Gu Yin. He had been asleep for five whole days, and it was time for him to eat.
The three males in the cabin each held their bowl of barley wine. The novel and potent aroma made them exchange glances, their beastman instincts kicking in and putting them on high alert.
Gu Yin frowned, his forked tongue flicking out to delicately lap a bit of the liquid from the surface and taste it.
Ling Hong took a reserved sip, then a second, and a third. The sharp, spicy flavor spreading across his tongue gradually became more tolerable, and his small sips turned into large gulps.
Xi glanced from side to side. Seeing that the other two were fine—and even seemed to be enjoying it—he downed his own bowl in one go.
An Jin stared as the usually most delicate Little Merfolk chugged the entire bowl of wine like a burly giant. The stark visual contrast nearly made her eyes pop out of her head.
"Y-y-you... How do you feel?" she asked cautiously, swallowing hard.
’For someone who’s never had alcohol before, chugging a whole bowl of strong liquor like that... The chance of alcohol poisoning is pretty high.’
Xi looked at her, dazed. His azure, slit pupils were glistening, as soulful as a distant mountain seen across an autumn lake. His crimson lips parted slightly. "Ah Jin..."
An Jin thought he was about to pass out.
But the next moment, his eyes cleared instantly, and he spoke with a bright smile. "I don’t feel anything. Isn’t this just water? It’s a little sour, but it’s not bad!"
’Huh? Why is he reacting like this? That’s not right...’
Gu Yin and Ling Hong, having finished their wine, were flushed red. Their eyes gradually glazed over, and they soon collapsed unconscious on the table.
An Jin glanced at their reactions, then back at Xi, who was beaming as if nothing had happened. She couldn’t help but take another sip from her own bowl. ’Yep, it’s definitely strong stuff.’
"They both got drunk. How are you completely fine?" Completely baffled, she decided to just ask him directly.
"You mean this drink? It can make you drunk?"
Xi’s gaze fell on the unconscious wolf and snake. He tried to make sense of it, then offered an explanation. "Maybe it’s because I store a lot of water in my body? This drink mixed with all the water inside me, so... um... there’s less of it, I guess? That’s why I don’t feel anything..." 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
’The alcohol was diluted by the water in his body.’
An Jin nodded. It was a unique racial trait. She never would have guessed that the gentle, delicate Xi had a natural constitution that made him immune to alcohol.
’But Ling Hong and Gu Yin were taken out by a single bowl?’
’Goes to show, you really can’t judge a book by its cover.’
An Jin made two glasses of orange juice and gave them to the semi-conscious Gu Yin and Ling Hong to help them sober up. By evening, both of them were fully awake.
"I didn’t realize the barley wine would be that strong. That was my mistake; I won’t give you so much next time. But it’s great for warming you up in the winter!"
"Indeed."
Gu Yin, one of the victims, offered his concise and on-point testimonial: "Body feels very hot."
"During the Great Cold Season, many Beastmen in the city have to patrol and stand guard in the snow. A lot of them can’t handle the severe cold. They could probably really use this kind of—"
Ling Hong thought for a moment, searching his mind for the right word, then chuckled. "This kind of drink that warms the body."
An Jin nodded. "That’s exactly what I was thinking."
The first batch was experimental. She only made a dozen or so jars, each holding about two liters.
She distributed the barley wine to the Beastmen who needed it, giving each only a limited amount and warning them not to drink too much.
The potent drink quickly became a favorite among the male Beastmen.
So An Jin started to ramp up production. She could almost see a massive business opportunity waving enthusiastically at her. Riches were rolling in, and immense wealth was just around the corner!
But it wasn’t enough to just have a strong drink that the males liked. An Jin also planned to make some fruit wines for the females and cubs.
As time passed, the Great Cold Season gradually faded away.
The harsh winter thawed. Tender green shoots quickly sprouted from the frozen earth, and the trees by the river grew soft, new, yellowish-green leaves that swayed gracefully in the cool breeze.
The sky had not yet fully brightened. The early morning sun was pale and offered no warmth. A cool breeze and a hazy mist drifted through the air, draping the forest of newly-budded trees in a faint, thin veil...
By noon, the weather finally warmed. Animals, awakening from the harsh winter, began to crawl out of their damp burrows to forage.
"AWOO~" A slender, handsome Silver Wolf lay at the cabin’s entrance, lazily sunbathing. Its beautiful tail occasionally swept across the dusty ground.
A black-and-red python was also coiled by the entrance, enjoying the warmth of winter’s departure and spring’s arrival. It stretched its long body contentedly.
The Little Merfolk, meanwhile, was happily blowing bubbles in the nearby, now-thawed river.
With a couple of creaks, the cabin door opened. An Jin emerged, toiletries in hand, intending to go wash up by the river.
She rubbed her drowsy eyes with one hand, squinting against the bright sunlight as she sighed contentedly.
"This is great. The Windy Season is here..."
’The construction project that’s been stalled for days can finally begin!’
