Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Striking Up a Conversation

But An Jin wasn’t satisfied with this and had Ling Hong bring over the spice jars.

As the meat skewers were nearly done, she took two more thick, meaty legs, scored them with a few cuts, and placed them on the fire to roast.

She sprinkled some coarse salt over them, turning them slowly to help the salt melt and absorb into the surface of the meat.

Next, An Jin unsealed the chili sauce she had prepared earlier. Just as she was about to spread it on the sizzling, greasy meat legs, Ling Hong grabbed her hand and stopped her.

He eyed the dangerously colored red chili sauce warily, his handsome brows furrowing slightly. "What is this? Why are you spreading it on the meat?"

’Isn’t it poisonous?’

An Jin waved her hand to reassure him. "It’s a kind of seasoning. It’s not poisonous. A little bit on cooked meat makes it taste even better."

Given her track record, Ling Hong relaxed, but he still took the leg of meat from her hand and took a small bite to try it first.

His expression flickered. His Adam’s apple bobbed as he struggled to swallow the piece of meat.

A tingling, numbing sensation spread through his mouth. It burned his tongue and felt very strange, but the feeling was surprisingly addictive.

’This... it’s really not poison, is it??’

Ling Hong still couldn’t bring himself to trust the bright red chili sauce. In the eyes of the Beastmen, anything that looked so gaudy was bound to be poisonous!

That’s why he had to test it for the little female first. His body was strong, after all. A little poison wouldn’t be a big deal.

As Ling Hong had this very serious thought, he couldn’t stop himself from taking another two bites. A few mouthfuls later, and—great. All that was left of the meat leg was a bone.

An Jin watched him, her face completely blank. "..."

When a certain wolf finally realized that the little female, who had been toiling away at the grill, hadn’t eaten a single bite, he gave a light cough. The tips of his ears turned red as he tore off the most tender part of another leg of meat, blew on it to cool it down, and placed it in her mouth.

The two of them ate as they grilled, and soon the aroma of roasting meat filled the air. A Beastman’s sense of smell is incredibly sharp, and many of them were drawn over by the irresistible scent.

Some of the young, unmated males were stunned when they saw the little female next to Ling Hong.

They had never seen a female next to Lord Ling Hong before.

They had no idea who this female was.

’The little female is so pretty and clean, and she looks so gentle. Her scent is amazing... Huh? Is she from our tribe? She looks kind of familiar, but I can’t recall any female who smelled this good.’

’How come she looks a bit like Little Black Mud?’

’That’s weird. Was Little Black Mud ever this good-looking??’

The young males whispered among themselves, exchanging glances. Still, the attraction of a female who smelled so nice was quite strong.

Just as they were planning to go over and strike up a conversation, a chilling gaze from Ling Hong shot in their direction.

The Beastmen shuddered, their legs nearly giving out from under them.

’Lord Ling Hong is terrifying. He really is the tribe’s number one warrior.’

"Uh, we were drawn by the smell of the roasted meat. It’s so fragrant! Could you teach us how to make it?" one of the males asked, rubbing his nose. They had already come all this way; it would be too humiliating to just leave now.

Besides, the little female smelled so clean and wonderful. For unmated males like them, their legs were practically rooted to the spot.

Ling Hong shot them a cool glance. "Fine. I know how, too. Why don’t I teach you?"

The males fell silent. "..."

They just wanted to chat her up; why was Lord Ling Hong getting involved? Still, the roasted meat was genuinely fragrant, and they were practically drooling. So, they brazenly and cheerfully went up to learn.
