Chapter 294: Chapter 190: The Magnificent and Mysterious Deep Sea; This Is Where I Grew Up

"Once we pass through this tunnel and keep swimming straight, we’ll reach my tribe’s territory," Xi said cheerfully, pushing her bubble forward as he swam. "Then we can ask the High Priest about the Sea Beasts! The High Priest is incredible. He knows everything!"

Just as they were about to pass through the tunnel, An Jin’s expression changed. She abruptly popped the bubble, spun around, and tackled the dumbfounded Merfolk, pulling him back with her.

"I guess we won’t have to bother your tribe’s High Priest after all," she said.

"Huh?!"

Xi hadn’t even processed what was happening. He stared blankly at An Jin, who was clinging to him, just as the entire area of the sea began to tremble violently. Turbulent currents kicked up countless rocks and clouds of silt.

Before their eyes, the dark tunnel suddenly snapped shut. A pair of enormous, scarlet eyes opened on what had been the rock-strewn roof of the "tunnel." He and An Jin were standing right in front of them—these massive red eyes were larger than both of them put together.

’It’s a Sea Beast?!’ Xi was completely floored.

’How is this Sea Beast so huge?!’

The largest he’d ever seen before was only a few dozen meters long, but this one was at least a hundred meters in length.

The enormous Sea Beast’s body was covered in rock and coral, making it look like an undersea mountain from a distance. ’And that long tunnel... that was its mouth?!’

’That was close. A moment later, and I would have led my precious Ah Jin straight into its mouth to become a hearty meal.’

"ROAR—!" The enraged Sea Beast heaved its massive form up from the seabed. Its body was encased in dense rock, and its four limbs resembled towering stone pillars.

It was like an ancient being that had slumbered for eons at the base of the deep-sea cliffs. With each step it took, the entire seabed quaked.

The Sea Beast’s body was clumsy and immense, its gait as wobbly as a toddler’s. But its sheer size was its advantage; in just a couple of steps, it caught up to the desperately fleeing pair.

A black and red serpentine shadow instantly materialized before the two of them.

"Attacking its body is useless! The Sea Beasts’ weakness is their heads, especially their eyes! Blind them and they can’t move!" Seizing the opportunity, Xi grabbed An Jin and shot hundreds, even thousands, of meters away, shouting to Gu Yin in the distance.

Long, sharp claws grew from Gu Yin’s fingertips, which he plunged straight into the Sea Beast’s savage, scarlet eye. A torrent of blood burst forth!

"ROAR—!" The Sea Beast’s mountainous body crashed to the seafloor. A moment later, it had become a true undersea mountain.

The billowing clouds of blood dyed the surrounding sea red. Gu Yin turned to Xi. "Protect her. Take her to your tribe. I’ll cover the rear and catch up soon."

’These Sea Beasts aren’t hard to kill,’ he thought, ’but dealing with them in large numbers is time-consuming.’

The scent of blood attracted other Sea Beasts from nearby. Just as Xi carried An Jin out of the area, he heard a thunderous commotion and enraged roars behind them. He didn’t need to look back to imagine the brutal massacre unfolding there.

Xi gently covered her eyes, his long, cool, webbed fingers brushing against her lashes. "Ah Jin, hold on tight. I’m about to speed up."

His usually cheerful voice had become deep and alluringly cool, tinged with a calm maturity that possessed its own unique charm.

The bubble was gone, and Xi had no time to make another. An Jin did as he asked, wrapping her arms tightly around his lean, powerful waist. She could faintly feel a few thin, soft scales at the juncture of scale and skin.

An Jin suppressed the flutter in her chest. Tilting her head up, she could only see his chin. "...Were those the Sea Beasts you were talking about?"

"Yes!" Xi immediately lowered his head, a look of sorrow touching his stunning, azure features. He tightened his grip on her waist and sighed softly. "The Sea Beasts were actually very peaceful, gentle creatures once. They aren’t like normal living things; they’re life forms born from rock. They’ve always guarded these seas we call home."

"It’s strange. They usually just lie quietly on the seabed, looking like ordinary rocks and hills. But for some reason, their dispositions changed drastically in recent years. They started frequently attacking the surrounding tribes and Beastmen..."

"Ah, forget it. It just gives me a headache thinking about it. I’ll take you to see our tribe’s High Priest. He might know something."

"Okay," An Jin nodded, lost in thought.

The scenery flew past in a blur, and the water rushed by her ears like a howling gale. She decided to simply close her eyes, resting her head against the Merfolk’s firm chest.

After a short while, she sensed Xi’s speed decreasing and opened her eyes again. A dazzling brightness nearly blinded her.
