Chapter 288: Chapter 188: Preventive Measures and a Prophecy of Water Calamity

Such tenacious life.

The Tyrant Flower was a bit of a headache.

It was clearly a plant, yet it acted like a rooted animal, biting anyone who came near. They’d had no choice but to lock it in an iron cage.

An Jin had just lifted her foot to leave.

Suddenly, a faint "humph" drifted through the air, vanishing with the bone-chilling wind so quickly it might have been an illusion.

She stopped in her tracks. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

’If I heard that correctly...’

"Mirror Mirror, can you find out what species this Tyrant Flower is? I’m getting a creepy feeling. This world doesn’t have ghosts or anything like that, right?"

"’Bone Flower,’ Mirror Mirror said, trying to reassure her. ’The system description just has those two words, along with some basic information you already know. That’s it. We transmigrated to the Beastman World, not a horror world. How could there possibly be ghosts?’"

"All right."

An Jin told herself it was just her imagination, but she had already walked up to the iron cage. She tightened the soft velvet cloak around her shoulders and squatted down.

It was only upon getting closer that she noticed something. Although the large Tyrant Flower looked vibrant, its petals and leaves were drooping listlessly, looking quite wilted.

’A little... pitiful?’

The thought flashed through her mind, and an inexplicable sadness touched her heart. "Are you bored?" she asked subconsciously.

The moment the words left her mouth, An Jin wanted to bite her tongue. ’How stupid can I be?’ she thought. ’Am I really trying to have a conversation with a flower?’

But to her surprise, the flower actually rustled its leaves and branches. Her fingers, exposed to the cold air, clenched. ’But there wasn’t any wind just now, was there?’

Her curiosity was suddenly piqued. ’This world is so magical,’ she mused. ’One more sentient flower shouldn’t be that surprising, right?’

"All right, I can’t bear to just leave you out here in the ice and snow. How about this? What if I find you a new, comfortable place to live?"

The little flower swayed happily.

As she reached her hand through the bars of the cage to touch it, a gaping maw lunged at her without warning. Luckily, she pulled her hand back just in time, or it would have been gone.

An Jin...

The Tyrant Flower... ’Instinctive feeding response. Couldn’t help it.’

"If you dare to bite me again, I’ll leave you right here and never come back. I won’t even feed you anymore," she threatened coolly. For some reason, she was utterly convinced the flower could understand her.

The little clown flower swayed its body gently.

Having learned her lesson, An Jin picked up a dead branch from the ground and poked the flower with it. Only after it didn’t attack did she dare to reach out and touch it.

As the female’s soft hands touched it, its body suddenly quivered slightly, and its branches and leaves drooped softly.

An Jin assumed it was freezing. ’Look at that,’ she thought, ’it’s so cold it’s trembling.’

She quickly called over a few nearby Beastmen to help her dig it up and find a new place to plant it.

"I’ve never seen roots this deep, and they spread out so far! They’re rooted deeper than a hundred-year-old tree!" The Beastmen grabbed their iron shovels, but even after digging several feet down, they still hadn’t managed to unearth the flower’s entire root system.

An Jin wanted to preserve the flower’s integrity. If the root system was damaged, it might not survive being transplanted. More importantly, she now believed the flower was sentient and couldn’t bear the thought of the little clown flower losing its ’arms and legs.’

After a great deal of effort, a few strong Beastmen finally managed to dig it out. Following An Jin’s orders, they delivered it to Chi Li.

Every part of the Bone Flower was a treasure, a sacred ingredient in medicine. The fruit it bore was especially miraculous, said to have the power to bring the dead back to life. For this reason, the Beastmen called it the legendary Beast God Fruit.

As a Witch Doctor, Chi Li had always been very interested in the plant. An Jin believed that if she sent the clown flower to him, he would take good care of it.

...

For the past few days, An Jin hadn’t been sleeping well.

In her dreams, she stood at the edge of the sea. The air was heavy and suffocating. The sky was as oppressive as night, with thick, dark clouds churning like a tidal wave, seeming to press down right on top of her. A whistling, cold wind whipped her hair into a frenzy.

The boundless, black surface of the sea churned violently. Beneath the waves, it felt as though countless terrifying Giant Beasts were stampeding and roaring.

A colossal wave, dozens of meters high, blotted out the sky. It crashed down on her like a roaring, frenzied beast, instantly annihilating her and the surrounding tribe.

In the dream, it felt as if an arm was wrapped around her throat, choking her until she couldn’t breathe. The sensation was just like truly drowning.
