Favorite of the Beast-world: I Got Rich Through Farming-Chapter 271 - 182: Water Pump + It Ran Over by Itself?
There were many kinds of water pumps she knew of, all relying on various scientific principles. After much consideration, An Jin settled on the piston pump.
Its structure was simple, it was easy to operate, and it could be built even in the technologically backward Beast World.
The principle behind a piston pump was actually quite simple—it used atmospheric pressure to draw water upward.
She worked through the night to draft a design for a hand-cranked piston pump. It had the dual function of pumping both water and air, which was incredibly convenient.
After handing the design to the Beastmen in the workshop, she left with her mind at ease. The finished product would be ready for pickup in three days.
After several years of training, the craftsmanship of the workshop’s Beastmen had become increasingly refined. Their mastery of dimensions and measurements was flawless; as long as she provided the design, she was guaranteed to receive a perfect replica.
"What is this thing? It’s so strange. You can’t sleep on it, and you can’t use it as a stool. Why does the Clan Leader want us to make it?"
The Beastmen in the workshop began to whisper among themselves.
"Why think so much about it? The Clan Leader must have her reasons for telling us to make this."
Another Beastman nearby urged, "Enough with the chatter. Let’s get to work. This thing is pretty complex. I’m not sure three days will be enough..."
By the time the water pump was finished, the pipes had also been fully laid.
Today was a special day. All the Beastmen of the city had gathered in the square. An Jin stood on a high platform, the focus of everyone’s attention.
’Can the river water really come to our homes all by itself?’ This was the question on every Beastman’s mind.
This absurd task, which seemed utterly impossible in the current Beast World, would soon change their lives forever.
"Everyone has worked hard these past few days. All Beastmen who participated in this project will receive a bonus of 100 pounds of beast meat and five sets of clothing this month."
As An Jin spoke, she walked over to the pipe and removed the stone that was plugging it.
The crowd stared nervously at the mouth of the pipe. A second passed... then two... then a full minute...
But no water came out.
"So it didn’t work after all? How could water from the river possibly run all the way here on its own? That would take a miracle from the Beast God himself, wouldn’t it?" The Beastmen sighed in disappointment. ’It seems even our omnipotent Clan Leader messes up sometimes.’
’All that work for the past few days was for nothing.’
The crowd’s initial enthusiasm instantly plummeted to a freezing point, and a pall of gloom settled over everyone.
A few stubborn Beastmen continued to stare at the dry opening of the pipe, but as time passed, the hope in their eyes slowly died.
"Don’t worry," An Jin said with a smile. "Of course, no water can come out yet. There’s one last step." She had a few Beastmen carry the water pump over to the pipe and connect the two.
Ling Hong, standing behind her, was the first to step forward. His cold eyes swept over the clamoring crowd below, his sharp, elegant brows furrowing. His thin lips parted. "We must have faith in our Clan Leader. The Beast God won’t descend to help us, but we can help ourselves."
The man strode forward a few steps on his long, rock-solid, honey-colored legs. Under the tense gaze of the crowd, he squatted slightly, grabbed the handle, and began to pump.
Ling Hong was incredibly strong, and his movements were sharp and swift. He pumped the handle so fast it became a blur.
His solid, muscular arms rippled with immense power, yet they didn’t look clumsy or brutish. Instead, they exuded a raw, primal virility.
As the air was pumped out of the pipe, river water rushed in to fill the vacuum. Ling Hong gave the handle a few more pulls, and with a loud—BANG!
A jet of river water shot out of the opening, splashing onto the cyan marble floor and instantly creating a large, dark patch.
"Th-This is river water? It’s water! The water really came here by itself?!" The Beastmen were stunned by the sight.
’The Great Soup River is kilometers away, so how did the water come here all by itself?!’
In disbelief, they ran to the pipe’s opening, cupped the water in their hands, and splashed it onto their faces.
The sensation of the cool, clear water forced them to accept the reality before their eyes.
’The water really came here by itself?!’
"Clan Leader, how in the world did you do this? It’s incredible! We’ve never heard of anything like it. Not even the High Priests possess such powerful spiritual power!"
"This isn’t spiritual power," An Jin replied. "It’s science."
"Science?"
The Beastmen were even more confused.
"This ’science’... it isn’t exactly hard, but it’s not simple either. I’ll explain it to you all slowly when I have more time." ’Looks like I need to put education on the agenda,’ she thought. ’They need to learn at least the basic principles of science.’
Beastmen rushed over with their buckets, crowding around the pipe to collect water and carry it home.
The whole process took only a few minutes.
"This is so much more convenient! It’s just a few steps away. The females won’t have to trek all the way to the river to do laundry anymore." A Beastman grinned from ear to ear, his overwhelming joy practically bursting out of him.
"This is only the first phase, to show you all that laying these pipes was not a waste of effort."
An Jin continued, "This year’s harsh winter season will be upon us soon, so we don’t have enough time. But by next year, the pipes will run directly into your courtyards, and things will be even more convenient."
