Favorite of the Beast-world: I Got Rich Through Farming-Chapter 250 - 176: City Lord’s Stone Castle and Wandering Beast Team
In An Jin’s experience, Gu Yin and Ling Hong—one a snake, the other a wolf—were both very casual about their dens. Their only requirement was that the place was serviceable enough to sleep in.
She had assumed that most male Beastmen were rough, casual, and unconcerned with details, but now she saw Song Yi, who kept both his nest and himself spotlessly clean...
’My bad, my bad. I was guilty of overgeneralizing.’
"The time for the third wave of rain hasn’t arrived yet. The rain outside shouldn’t last too long. You can wait here for a while. Once it stops, I’ll take you back." Song Yi came to her side, a quiet, still presence, like a great rock impervious to the wind and rain.
In their own nests, Eagle Beasts liked to remain in their beast forms, so An Jin felt like there was a little sun right beside her.
He was a big, warm ball of golden feathers, and both his temperature and his color made her feel wonderfully warm and safe.
The rain outside wasn’t very heavy, but the temperature had suddenly dropped quite a bit. The nest had a large opening, and cold wind whistled inside.
Whenever it rained or snowed, Song Yi couldn’t help but feel drowsy. The heat radiating from his body and his coat of feathers protected him from the bitter cold, so he didn’t feel it at all.
Just as usual, his creamy-gold eyelids had drooped halfway shut when he felt the woman beside him shivering. He snapped awake, opening one wing and pulling the female under its cover.
The undersides of an Eagle Beast’s wings grew fine, soft down, meant for shielding newborn chicks from the cold. He never expected that the first time he used it, it would be on her.
’It’s so warm.’
An Jin let out a breath, narrowing her pitch-black eyes. She stayed under the Golden Eagle’s wing, brazenly soaking up his warmth, so comfortable that she didn’t want to move at all.
She used to be able to withstand this kind of cold.
But ever since she was injured, whenever the weather turned damp and cold, her wounds would ache and itch, forcing her to practically live by a fire every day.
Song Yi wasn’t her mate, after all, so An Jin had an instinctive aversion to such intimacy. But she was simply freezing, so she couldn’t be bothered with such thoughts.
"You’ve brought so many fresh flowers and fragrant fruits into your nest. They look lovely, but isn’t it a hassle to clean them up after they rot?" The sounds of the wind and rain filled the air outside, yet it was too quiet in the nest. An Jin couldn’t help but make some small talk.
"It’s fine. I change them almost every day. The pretty flowers decorate the nest, and I happen to like eating fruit."
Song Yi subconsciously glanced down at her, but could only see the top of her smooth, jet-black hair. He leaned down slightly and gently touched her face with his hooked beak.
’A little cold.’
He couldn’t help but wrap his wing around her a little tighter.
"After we in the Eagle Clan reach adulthood, a male Beastman will follow a female he admires to a new settlement and build an elaborate love nest for her. These flowers and fragrant fruits are to attract the female’s attention."
Song Yi hadn’t always been an eagle with such flair; this was a new skill he had only recently developed.
"..." An Jin’s heart stuttered. ’Am I reading too much into this? I can’t help but feel like he’s hinting at something.’
She hesitated for a moment before she couldn’t help but ask, "So, you followed me to this city... do you plan on going back to Beast Gathering City? After all, you lived there for such a long time."
’You must have some feelings for the place, right?’
Song Yi shook his head. "I’m not a Beastman from Beast Gathering City. Even after leaving, I have no lingering attachments."
"We of the Eagle Clan are raised on harsh, desolate cliffs. After coming of age, we fly to all corners of the continent, searching for more comfortable settlements, pursuing greater strength, and courting females."
"The reason I followed you to this city is that Beast Gathering City could no longer help me achieve my goals or increase my strength, so I wanted to find a new city to live in." Song Yi’s gaze fell on the female’s slightly conflicted expression as he spoke slowly and deliberately.
"Oh, so that’s why."
An Jin breathed a sigh of relief. ’If another suitor showed up, Gu Yin would absolutely kill someone when he got back... ah, no, kill a *beast*.’
Song Yi watched her, hummed softly in response, and said no more.
The gloomy, dark clouds were swept from the sky by a gale, and soon, a pale, cold light broke through. The air was still cold and damp, but it was a great improvement from before.
An Jin poked her head out from under the Golden Eagle’s wing, then moved to the opening of the nest, her gaze falling upon the view below.
She suddenly had a much deeper appreciation for why Eagle Beasts liked to build their nests in tall trees.
