Chapter 226: Chapter 167: Two Major Cities, a Battered Black-Haired Boy, and Abandonment

Ever since the Demon Beast tide was driven back, the reconstruction of the devastated Beast Gathering City had begun in full swing!

The bustling streets were filled with strong Beastmen carrying massive stones and logs, a scene of industrious, feverish activity.

Beast Gathering City possessed an excellent geographical location and an abundance of natural resources and ores.

An Jin had always wanted to develop commerce, and to be frank, Beast Gathering City was a far more suitable location for it than Sheng’an City.

’If they could rebuild Beast Gathering City to its former glory, or even to an even grander scale, its superb geographical location could turn it into a natural trade fortress connecting the entire continent!’

So, when the highly respected Beastman Elders asked her again, An Jin gave them a satisfactory answer.

"I am honored to take charge of this city."

The Beastmen were both shocked and overjoyed.

Her ambitions required a material foundation. An Jin planned to integrate the two cities, allowing them to function as one.

Beast Gathering City could rely on Sheng’an City’s abundant labor and food reserves to rebuild in peace. Meanwhile, Sheng’an City could leverage Beast Gathering City’s rich natural resources to surpass its own developmental limits.

The moment she finished speaking, the basic information within her system changed. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

[DING—Congratulations, Host, on acquiring a new city! Territory expanded, influence expanded!]

① Sheng’an City (Ordinary)

② Beast Gathering City (Fortress, Damaged)]

In her mind, alongside the miniature blueprint and various statistical indicators for Sheng’an City, a new set for Beast Gathering City had appeared.

Sheng’an City’s geographical environment was clearly better suited for agriculture and animal husbandry, making it a reliable breadbasket.

With this decided, An Jin designated the newly acquired Beast Gathering City as a trade hub and began designing the scale of its reconstruction.

Her plan was to demolish the city’s previous structures and create a completely new, more detailed design for the roads, houses, and shops, one that emphasized its function as a center for trade and transport. She would then appoint the Beastmen to renovate and rebuild the city directly according to these new plans.

Everything proceeded in an orderly fashion.

After nearly half a month of the city being under lockdown, the food An Jin and the Beastmen had brought was long gone. The city’s granaries were also nearly empty.

Ling Hong and Song Yi therefore led the Hunting Team into the jungle for a large-scale hunt scheduled to last half a month.

This would be the first major effort to stockpile food for Beast Gathering City since the reconstruction had begun.

Ever since the massive thunderstorm a few days ago had passed, a warm sun hung steadfastly in the sky, radiating heat. In the distance, the horizon glowed with an endless, orange-red light.

The once vast and vibrant sea of green that was the lush forest had been ravaged by the thunderstorm, and was now tinged with the withered yellows of autumn.

...

Beast Gathering City was surrounded by mountains on three sides, with a sea of forest stretching as far as the eye could see. Its botanical resources were outrageously abundant.

Choosing a day with pleasant weather, An Jin donned a conical bamboo hat and straw sandals. She wrapped herself in a thick, coarse beast-hide cloak to protect against scratches from the undergrowth and thorns.

Once she was ready, she led the more enthusiastic females and herbivorous Beastmen from the city up the mountain to forage. They dug up everything they could find—wild vegetables, wild fruits, rare plants—and tossed it all into their baskets.

They found many seeds and plants they hadn’t been able to locate before despite scouring the entire mountain—things like wild garlic shoots, celery, and even barley that could be used for brewing.

There were also some species unique to the Beast World whose names she didn’t know.

An Jin secretly tossed a few of each into her dimensional space to cultivate.

’Once I get back to Sheng’an City, I’ll plant these cultivated seedlings in the farmlands and plantations. Then, I’ll harvest the crops, process them into secondary goods that don’t exist in the Beast World, and sell them in both cities.’

She could already imagine her future life as a tycoon, striking it rich through farming and making an absolute fortune.

"You all can just gather wild fruits and vegetables around here," she instructed. "It’s best not to wander off; wild beasts might show up. I’m going to look around the vicinity to see if I can find anything else useful."

After giving her instructions to the females on the gathering team, An Jin turned and plunged into the waist-high grass, vanishing from sight.

As far as the eye could see, there were nothing but lush, towering ancient trees. They crowded together, each one stretching higher than the next in a desperate struggle for sunlight.

Vines and aerial roots, slender as snakes, coiled around the tree trunks and drooped from the branches. They were intricately interwoven in a chaotic tangle, forming what looked like natural walls and green fountains, with countless little wildflowers peppered throughout.

Thickets of yellow-green ferns and shrubs, easily waist-high, blanketed the damp, dark earth like a tangled carpet. The ground itself was littered with withered branches and rotten leaves—the aftermath of the torrential downpour.
