Favorite of the Beast-world: I Got Rich Through Farming-Chapter 204 - 146: The Beast World’s "Hua Lu Shui" and The Slaves’ Gratitude
Chi Li had also discovered the numbing herb not long ago, by chance, during a gathering expedition.
On his way back to the clan, he passed through a patch of dense, tangled bushes, and his arm was accidentally cut by a leaf with sharp, serrated edges.
It was only a shallow cut that oozed a few beads of blood, but his entire arm immediately went numb, losing all sensation of pain.
This paralysis-like symptom lasted for quite a while. It wasn’t until dusk that afternoon that his arm slowly returned to normal.
If an ordinary Beastman gathering or hunting in the forest had encountered such a situation, they would have just cursed their bad luck, rushed back to the clan in a panic, and forgotten all about it soon after.
But Chi Li had always been meticulous and detail-oriented. As an exceptionally talented Great Witch Doctor, his professional instincts allowed him to recognize the value of this rare herb almost instantly.
Chi Li gathered all the numbing herbs in the area and brought them back to the clan. After studying them for nearly half a month, he finally formulated a medicinal solution with a concentration suitable for Beastman use when dissolved in water.
After hearing the whole story, An Jin couldn’t help but feel it was a shame. ’If Chi Li lived in my era, he would have definitely been an excellent medical professional.’
’The primitive medical conditions of the Beast World are holding back his talent too much.’
"You don’t have any wounds on you, right? Be careful not to let this touch a wound directly. If something happens, I’m not taking responsibility," Chi Li teased with a smile.
"Does a mosquito bite count?"
An Jin blinked innocently and held out her arm, which sported a large, red welt from a bite and was even bleeding a little.
The insects of the Beast World were absolutely vicious, so aggressive she couldn’t fend them off. The mosquito coils in her room had become almost useless; it was as if the bugs had developed an immunity.
Chi Li’s gaze fell on the red, swollen area. Although he knew she was also joking, the smile on his face faded considerably.
"Rub this on your skin, and those bugs won’t bite you."
Chi Li bent down and rummaged through a box for a while, finally pulling out a small vial and handing it to her.
She opened it. The vial contained a pale green liquid with a faint, herbal fragrance.
’The Beast World’s version of insect repellent?’
’I can’t believe Chi Li has something this good.’
An Jin was utterly shocked. God only knew how viciously the bugs had been biting her these past few months. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
She quickly rubbed the solution onto her arm. The itchy welt immediately felt cool, and the mosquitos buzzing "BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ" around her quickly flew away.
’Now I’m a walking mosquito coil.’
An Jin swore to herself that from now on, she would visit Chi Li more often, whether she had a reason or not. His place was a veritable treasure trove of the Beast World.
...
A Witch Doctor’s treatment required a relatively quiet environment. Knowing this all too well, Chi Li stepped outside, leaving the treatment room to An Jin and the Beastman with the fractured bone.
A fractured fibula.
’Among the various types of leg fractures, this one isn’t too difficult to handle,’ she thought. ’Otherwise, as a non-professional, I wouldn’t dare to attempt it.’
An Jin had witnessed the powerful Healing Ability of the Beastmen. As long as they weren’t dead, even shattered bones could grow back on their own.
The problem, however, was that the wound needed to be cleaned and sutured properly, or else it would become inflamed and start to fester.
The fractured leg bone also needed to be immobilized with a cast or an external fixation brace. Otherwise, the bone would heal crooked, and the pain caused by the misaligned skeleton when walking or running would be no less intense than the initial break.
A stone vat by the door held fresh water. An Jin scooped out a basin of it and placed it beside the bed. Then, she retrieved clean gauze, povidone-iodine, alcohol, and a plaster cast brace that she had purchased from her space.
She carefully replayed the instructional video in her mind. Once she had a thorough understanding of the crucial steps, she took a deep breath, knelt by the bed, and wet the gauze in the basin of water.
She cleaned the blood from the Beastman’s leg with the damp gauze.
Even though she chose the less-irritating povidone-iodine to disinfect his wound, a huge chunk had been torn from the Beastman’s calf by a wild beast, exposing a large area of bloody, mangled flesh.
"AARGH!"
The moment the povidone-iodine touched the wound, he began to scream.
The Beastman’s face was ashen. Beads of cold sweat dotted his forehead, and the beast skin sheet beneath him was soaked through. He clutched it tightly, the veins on his arms bulging.
The intense, stinging pain caused the Beastman’s entire body to twitch and tremble, his eyes turning red and bloodshot.
"Don’t move. Relax, it will stop hurting in a moment..." An Jin tried to distract the Beastman while unceremoniously applying some of the numbing herb juice.
Finally, the room fell completely silent.
The Beastman lay stiffly on the bed, as still as a corpse.
With the patient no longer struggling, An Jin found the rest of the treatment much more manageable.
First, she used a sterilized scalpel to debride the necrotic flesh around his leg, sutured the wound with medical thread, and finally applied the cast.
Applying the cast was also a relatively simple process.
She first soaked the plaster bandages in water. After setting the Beastman’s leg in the proper position, she rolled the bandages from top to bottom, smoothly wrapping eight layers around the injured Beastman’s lower leg.
After applying the cast, it was crucial to monitor the limb’s circulation. If the cast was too tight, it could restrict blood flow and lead to distal neurovascular necrosis.
The light outside the window gradually dimmed. When An Jin saw that the Beastman’s lower leg showed no signs of turning blue or purple, she breathed a sigh of relief and wiped the thin layer of sweat from her forehead.
’Mission accomplished. The steps weren’t that difficult.’
’It’s just that every step of the process required my utmost concentration. It really took a lot out of me.’
Beastmen weren’t like ordinary humans; their recovery abilities were incredible. He just needed to eat well for a period of time, get plenty of rest, and avoid moving around too much, and he would heal on his own.
Still, out of a sense of humanitarian duty, An Jin purchased some medication to promote bone density from her space and tucked it into the Beast Skin Bag tied at his waist.
—It would promote fracture healing and prevent complications.
But just as the dust settled and An Jin opened the door, she found a large crowd of Beastmen gathered outside.
’Are most of them slaves?’
She glanced back at the Beastman still lying on the bed like a corpse. ’This guy must be a slave leader.’
"Clan Leader..." The slaves gazed at An Jin, their eyes filled with tears and their lips trembling. A tumultuous mix of complex emotions churned in their hearts, leaving them speechless.
They had heard that Gao Shi was injured by a wild beast and was going to be thrown out of the clan, and they had been ready to protest in anger.
Though they had been defeated and reduced to slaves, at their core, they were still proud Beastman Warriors. How could they tolerate such humiliation?
But then they heard that An Jin had ordered the other Beastmen to carry the injured Gao Shi to the medical room.
’How could that be?!’
’She... she actually wanted to treat a slave?!’
The Beastman slaves hadn’t believed it, but seeing it for themselves, they were moved beyond words.
They couldn’t believe she had actually saved Gao Shi.
Slaves held the most wretched status, especially those from a defeated clan.
No clan ever cared whether slaves lived or died.
"The Beastman has been treated. All he needs now is to rest and recuperate. You can carry him out."
An Jin took two steps forward, holding the wooden door open, her gentle yet steady gaze sweeping over every Beastman slave present. "I said before that as long as you contribute to the clan with sincerity and harbor no devious ideas, I can grant you the status of ordinary Beastmen."
"We will do everything in our power to treat every injured Beastman in the clan."
