Chapter 195: Chapter 132: Taking Her on an Outing

"Awoo~" The three little tiger cubs nuzzled affectionately in An Jin’s palms.

But when they found no delicious roast meat, they flicked their tails dejectedly and scurried away in a flash.

In a nearby field, they raced each other to see who was fastest.

Then, one after another, they ran to the edge of the field and started digging at the dirt with their paws.

Yellow earth flew everywhere as they dug energetically, quickly creating several small holes in the ground.

The sturdiest-looking little tiger had to be the eldest.

The second cub was about the same size as the eldest, but its fur was a little lighter, and it looked the most alert and clever.

The third was the scrawniest of the three. It probably didn’t get enough milk when it was younger and often had its food stolen by the other two, making it seem cautious and timid.

"Awoo~" The eldest cub gave a hard sniff with its little pink nose, suddenly perked up, and began digging with even more excitement.

Suddenly, a black shadow flashed before its eyes.

The eldest cub pounced. "HROWW!" It viciously pinned the black shadow to the ground and clamped down with its teeth, a fierce, low growl rumbling in its throat as it savagely tore at its captured prey.

An Jin thought it had caught a field mouse and took a step forward, only to see it was a black bug half the size of her hand?!

Gou Ni caught up, panting. She grabbed the eldest cub’s round, furry ear and tried to pry the black bug out of its mouth with her fingers. "You silly cub, you can’t eat this! It’s a bug! Spit it out, you’ll get sick!"

"I don’t starve you guys, so why is every one of you acting like you’ve never seen meat in your life?"

"Awoo~" The bug’s flesh was exposed from the bite. The eldest cub hugged the bug tightly with its paws, tilting its round head to gnaw on it. In the end, Gou Ni still managed to forcibly take the bug and throw it away.

The eldest cub’s round, amber eyes blinked pitifully. It kicked its hind legs in its mother’s arms and let out a heart-wrenching shriek, clearly reluctant to let its prize go.

Nearby, the second and third cubs had also dug up field mice and were gobbling them down.

’It’s like I starve you all every day.’

Gou Ni couldn’t help but laugh. "Eat slowly, don’t choke!"

She reached out and patted the backs of the second and third cubs. "Awoo, awoo!"

The third cub, having often had its food stolen by its siblings since birth, was especially protective of its meals. The approach of An Jin and Gou Ni made it prick up its ears warily.

Gou Ni patted the third cub’s back, intending to get it to eat slower, but it only made the cub eat more frantically.

It shoved meat into its mouth haphazardly with its fluffy paws, a low, warning growl rumbled in its throat. It clutched its food tightly, as if afraid someone would steal it.

The moment it got a chance, the third cub kicked its legs and scurried away from them in a flash.

It disappeared into some patch of grass to eat its prize.

"That little cub of yours is a bit possessive with its food, huh?"

Gou Ni took An Jin’s hand, pouted, and said with a look of mock disgust, "Just like his father when he was little!"

"Hu Che was about this small when he was a cub. He was especially possessive of his food, had no idea how to take care of females, and would even snatch vegetable buns right from my hand!"

As she spoke, Gou Ni couldn’t help but laugh. She seemed to have recalled many amusing childhood stories and began chattering away, pulling An Jin along as she talked on and on.

After working in the fields for a while, An Jin and Gou Ni sat down to rest on a ridge between the fields. They opened their bamboo flasks and took a big gulp of cool water.

The warm sun shone down on them. Their conversation drifted from one topic to another without any real direction, but they were enjoying the chat, which mostly revolved around their mates.

An Jin couldn’t help but think of Ling Hong and Gu Yin. ’I wonder what they were like when they were little?’

She wasn’t like Gou Ni.

Gou Ni and her two mates had grown up together in the same tribe—childhood sweethearts, completely innocent.

An Jin suddenly realized that she knew very, very little about Ling Hong’s and Gu Yin’s pasts.

’I’ll have to ask them when I get the chance.’

「Over the next few days」

The Beastmen rushed to finish the traps around the pasture, and that very night, their efforts paid off.

"ROAR—!"

A beast’s howl echoed through the desolate night.

An Jin immediately scrambled out of bed. She looked out the window toward the pasture, her eyes shining. "We caught it! I have to see who’s been stealing our cattle and sheep!"

Ling Hong took her to the pasture.

Most of the tribe’s Beastmen had also been woken by the miserable howl. One by one, they shifted into their beast forms, shot out of their houses, and charged furiously toward the pasture.

The Beastmen had previously left a corner of the fence intentionally damaged, and in front of that broken section, they had dug a large pit.
