Chapter 186: Chapter 129: Reconciliation with the Snake + The Wolf and the Snake’s Schedule

He seemed even angrier than he had been a few days ago.

If he hadn’t been slumbering nearby and rushed over just in time, she could have ended up in the bellies of that pack of Wolf Beasts.

"Didn’t that Wolf Beast follow you? He’s your favorite partner. You should keep him by your side at all times."

An Jin could detect a hint of jealousy in his ice-cold voice.

"I came out by myself and didn’t tell anyone. Ling Hong is out leading a hunting party, so he doesn’t know about this."

"Then what about you? You’re a partner I’m fond of, and you aren’t always by my side, are you?" An Jin countered, feigning anger as she looked up at him.

Gu Yin’s expression darkened. He seemed to have not expected her retort and was momentarily at a loss for words.

"Where have you been all this time? I haven’t been able to sense you at all. You have no idea how worried I’ve been..."

An Jin lifted her face and reached out to caress the corner of his eye and his refined profile. Gu Yin instinctively nuzzled against her smooth, soft palm and asked in a low voice, "...You were that worried about me?"

"Mhm."

The little female nodded sincerely. "I came out by myself and stayed out until evening not just to dig up some raw materials, but also because I wanted to see if you were nearby..."

Gu Yin was moved. His once-cold, hard heart suddenly began to thaw like melting ice, releasing faint wisps of warmth, though his handsome face still betrayed little emotion.

Gu Yin glanced down at the empty clearing. There wasn’t even a basket on the ground. Carrying An Jin, he slithered past the numerous Wolf Beast corpses. "What materials were you looking for?"

"Feed for my little silkworms. The feed made from these raw materials makes the silk threads thicker and tougher."

An Jin clung to his long, slender neck, pressing her face against his chest. Her long lashes trembled as she gazed into the distance. "I had actually found everything I needed..."

"But then I ran into that relentless pack of Wolf Beasts, and I have no idea where I dropped my basket."

Gu Yin flicked his forked tongue. Her scent still lingered in the air. Holding An Jin in his arms, he precisely retraced her escape route.

"Don’t look for it now, let’s just hurry home. If it’s gone, I can just gather more tomorrow."

The darkness of night always brings with it a potent, unknown fear.

An Jin looked hesitantly at the pitch-black sky and couldn’t help but hug Gu Yin tighter, draping her entire body over his firm, slender frame.

"It’s too dark now, and you just killed all those Wolf Beasts. The scent of blood in the air is going to attract other beasts..."

"With me here, what is there to fear?"

Gu Yin couldn’t help but shoot her a smiling glance.

’He has a point,’ An Jin thought. She nodded and fell silent, resting quietly against him without another word.

Gu Yin thoroughly enjoyed her dependence on him. He deliberately slowed his pace, carrying her on a leisurely stroll through the pitch-black jungle.

It was less about finding the basket and more of an excuse for a leisurely stroll and a rare moment alone with his female.

The moonlight was exceptionally dim tonight. The sky looked as if a bottle of ink had been spilled across it. The world’s two great moons were shrouded by vast, dark clouds, and not a single ray of light could find its way to her eyes.

As a human with normal vision, An Jin’s sight was practically useless in the boundless darkness.

Her spiritual power was depleted, so she couldn’t use it now either.

All she could do was rely on the man carrying her as he wandered around.

Snake Beasts didn’t have good eyesight, but they naturally possessed an infrared sense and could also use their other organs and forked tongues to pick up the scents of living creatures.

In the pitch-black night, where one couldn’t see their own hand in front of their face, the world appeared to Gu Yin as an exquisitely clear thermal image.

An Jin felt Gu Yin bend down, and then a heavy object appeared in his hand. "Is this it?"

Just then, the dark clouds parted slightly, letting a sliver of moonlight shine through.

An Jin blinked hard, finally making out the basket in his hand. A lot of the raw materials had fallen out, but it was just barely enough. "Yes, that’s it!"

Having found the basket, the two of them started back.

An Jin had no idea how far she had run. They walked for what felt like ages but still hadn’t reached the tribe. All around them, it was eerily quiet, without a single beast in sight.

So, she struck up a conversation with Gu Yin.

"Where have you been all this time? The Beastmen of the tribe have been looking for you."

"And besides... you appeared the very moment I was in danger. Is it really such a coincidence?"

Gu Yin stared straight ahead. He paused at her question and seemed to deliberate on his words before replying vaguely, "...I was asleep."
