Chapter 175: Chapter 126: Mating with a Wolf

"You’re not allowed to say bad things about the Clan Leader! We females can do plenty of things; we’re not as useless as you say!" Hua Ye glared at him fiercely, her eyes red as she rubbed away her tears.

Listening to the female’s retorts punctuated by sobbing hiccups, Shalv felt a strange pleasure mingled with his annoyance. The swishing of his fishtail quickened slightly.

How to describe it?

Watching her trying to be fierce with reddened eyes, like a startled rabbit pretending to be tough, Shalv found himself strangely hooked. He had the urge to make her cry even more pitifully.

"That Clan Leader of yours is indeed very beautiful..."

Shalv swam along the bank, resting his head in his hand. He squinted his gray-blue eyes, recalling for a moment. "She must have that Merfolk’s Shark Pearl inside her, which is why she resembles the females of the Mermaid Clan I’ve seen. But her own features must be quite good, too." 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

Even though Shalv had never been interested in females, he had to admit that the Female Clan Leader of this clan was impeccably beautiful.

While the little rabbit before him wasn’t as gorgeous as the females of the Mermaid Clan, her crying face was rather pretty. For Shalv, who was used to the females of the sea, this was a refreshing novelty.

"Alright, stop crying. It’s as if I actually bullied you or something."

Shalv swam a little closer along the bank. He casually tossed the medicinal herbs into her basket and glanced up at the darkening sky. "If you don’t head back soon, a ferocious beast might leap out of the thicket and eat you in one bite."

Hua Ye’s face paled. She was terrified.

Shalv, however, was laughing gleefully. "But, you could beg me. I might just have some free time to escort you back."

"...I don’t need your help." Hua Ye shot him a look, then turned and stalked away in a huff.

’Our Clan Leader already thought of that. She arranged for powerful Beastman Warriors to take turns on patrol at night, protecting the clan members.’

’There’s no way a wild beast could get in! That fish is so mean, trying to scare me like that.’

"Huh?" Shalv slapped his fishtail against the water, a little disappointed.

’I thought she was a coward?’

"Oh, right."

Suddenly remembering something, Hua Ye turned back. She rummaged inside the Beast Skin Bag at her waist, pulled out a medicine pouch, and handed it to a bewildered Shalv.

"This is your last medicine pouch. I... I forgot to give it to you, so I’m giving it to you now," she stammered, staring off to the side.

Shalv’s eyes swept over her, and he quickly caught on. His expression turned cold. "What? If I hadn’t stopped you today, were you just going to keep my medicine pouch for yourself?"

"I’m this badly injured, and I paid a fortune to your clan’s Witch Doctor for these medicine pouches. How dare you keep one for yourself."

Hua Ye’s face flushed bright red. "I... I didn’t..."

She said indignantly, "Well, it’s your fault for saying bad things about me and the Clan Leader! I didn’t want to see you, so I asked another Beastman to deliver it."

Hearing the female say she didn’t want to see him, Shalv became even more annoyed and deliberately started looking for trouble. "I don’t care. I never got it. I was wondering why no one had brought me medicine for the past two days. You just pocketed it."

"This one pouch is worth two Crystal Cores, you know. Do I look like the kind of shark who takes a loss? You have to compensate me, or I’ll just stay in your clan and never leave."

"You—"

Hua Ye was completely shocked by the Beastman’s shameless behavior. Her mouth hung open as she pointed a trembling finger at him, utterly at a loss for words.

After a long moment, she whispered, "I’m sorry, but those herbs are very precious. I can’t get more right away..."

Shalv said magnanimously, "Then take your time paying me back. I’ve got plenty of time. As it happens, I still have some injuries that haven’t healed."

"I’ll head back now, then?" Hua Ye glanced at him.

Shalv answered casually, "Sure."

In the time they had spent bickering, the sky had grown completely dark. Darkness now shrouded the forest and the water.

The eyesight of marine creatures was not very good. Shalv’s pupils dilated in the darkness, and he had to squint just to make out the female’s receding figure in the distance.

After a moment’s thought, Shalv still felt uneasy, so he quietly followed her. Once he saw Hua Ye safely back to the clan, he silently departed via the waterway.

Beastmen had always revered the strong, and more than half of this group of injured refugee Beastmen followed Shalv’s commands.

Since Shalv had no intention of leaving for the time being, they also continued to live in the clan.

An Jin was rather surprised by this. Although she didn’t know the reason why, having these Beastmen reside in the clan meant they would have to pay with the corresponding Salt Stones, Earth Mine, Ice Stones, or Crystal Cores.

It was a perfect opportunity for her to make some extra profit.
