Chapter 169: Chapter 124: A Difficult Birth

Hua Ye froze, her lips trembling violently. Then, she covered her face and burst into tears.

Under everyone’s bewildered gazes, she covered her face and ran off.

Shalv watched coldly, all the more contemptuous of the female’s fragile tears.

His gaze fell upon the tear-stained patch of ground, and despite himself, his heart gave a lurch.

But he didn’t feel he was in the wrong. He figured he had simply guessed the female’s intentions, and she was lashing out from shame and anger.

The other Beastmen didn’t know what Hua Ye had been through, but An Jin and Ling Hong knew perfectly well.

The male Beastman’s mockery was tantamount to carving a fresh, bloody wound over the old scar on Hua Ye’s heart. The beast markings on her body had been left by the Wandering Beasts who had assaulted her; two of them had just come of age.

"I am a female, and I am also the Clan Leader of this tribe. If you look down on females and are prejudiced against me as well, you are free to leave." An Jin stepped into the crowd, her voice calm and cold.

The crowd instantly parted like the Red Sea before Moses, clearing a wide path for her.

Shalv narrowed his eyes, staring fiercely at the stunningly beautiful female before him. His deep gray eyes were filled with utter disbelief. "What? You’re the Clan Leader?"

He glanced around, taking in the tribe’s buildings and prosperity. He frowned, his lips twisting into a cold sneer. "This tribe actually lets a female be the Clan Leader? I really don’t know what you male Beastmen are thinking."

Though the Water Beastmen were terrified by Shalv’s arrogant and disrespectful attitude, they all fell silent.

In truth, they too were highly suspicious. ’With a frail female as the Clan Leader, just how strong could this tribe possibly be?’

Although Blue Sharks were a noble bloodline of the deep sea, their King ruling the oceans with supreme authority, this particular Merfolk was simply too weak. They couldn’t bring themselves to fully commit to the tribe she had chosen.

Shalv was about to sneer again when he was stopped short by a cold, warning gaze that made his heart tremble.

He looked up at the Wolf Beast behind the female and ground his sharp teeth, his expression turning dark and unreadable.

’I can’t believe a random tribe on land actually has a powerful Sixth Rank Wolf Beast.’

’No wonder they let this female be Clan Leader. It must be because she has this Wolf Beast to protect her.’

Shalv himself was powerful, and therefore arrogant—he looked down on males weaker than him, and even more so on weak females who couldn’t shapeshift.

A massive beast tide had erupted in the deep sea. He had single-handedly slain dozens of ferocious, tens-of-meters-long Sea Beasts, but was gravely injured in the process.

Furthermore, he was on land, which was not his ideal fighting ground. Shalv had no desire to make an enemy of a Wolf Beast who was his equal in strength.

With a snort, he withdrew his gaze and grabbed his medicine pouch.

"Females are all useless and selfish. To actually let a female be the Clan Leader? A tribe like this isn’t worth staying in."

An Jin stopped Ling Hong, who was about to charge forward from behind her. She held his large, hot, clenched hand and shook her head. "It’s fine. Don’t be rash."

Lifting her jet-black eyes, she took two steps forward and met his cold, blue-gray gaze, her own expression unchanging. "Although I don’t know why you’re so hostile towards females, our tribe has never forced anyone to stay."

"As long as you leave behind enough Crystal Cores, whether you go or stay has nothing to do with our tribe."

As for the hesitation and doubt from the majority of the Water Beastmen, An Jin offered neither an explanation nor any attempt to persuade them to stay.

Both sides understood the situation perfectly; it was simply a matter of mutual benefit.

They wanted to find a safe place to live near water.

The tribe was no longer short on labor, and An Jin was simply looking to make a profit. It was clear that most of the Water Beastmen followed the Tiger Shark.

...

But this group of refugees was, after all, the first wave of Water Beastmen the tribe had taken in. Their opinions, survival needs, and preferences would provide crucial insight for accepting Sea Clan Beastmen in the future.

Though the tribe hadn’t finished building the main city, the initial plans had already designated residential zones for the different Beastman clans within the city walls.

An Jin was no professional, after all. She only had a superficial understanding of city planning, so she bought a few books from the system and spent some time studying them in her free moments.

Every professional field is vast and deep, presenting many difficulties for a newcomer.

An Jin had barely managed to grasp the entry-level concepts, but this smattering of knowledge was more than enough for the city’s current, simple planning needs.

A corner in the Southwest of the city was crossed by the lower reaches of a great river. The environment was damp and fertile with lush vegetation, making it a perfect place for the Sea Clan Beastmen to live.
