Fated: The Alpha's Unwanted Luna-Chapter 107: Heartless
"I-i am not fine. My arm and legs hurt, I think they’re broken and my bones feel damaged. I don’t know why she pushed me. I was only passing by her..." Angela sobbed, but internally she was smirking, knowing that this was where she would put this wolfless woman who had dare to make the Alpha laugh in her place.
She couldn’t let her dreams of climbing the social ladder be ruined by some nobody who came from another pack, someone far beneath her in status. She was an omega, while the bitch didn’t even have a wolf! How could she give up years of dreams for someone like her? Had it been Laila, Angela would know she had lost to a worthy, important person, but a wolfless bitch?!
Never.
Since she was a little girl, she had harbored dreams of being Sebastian’s wife one day, rejoicing with every single death of his Lunas, waiting for her turn when his rumored curse would be broken so she could become his fourth Luna, who would survive.
Angela didn’t mind at all that he was marrying this wolfless, because there was no doubt she would eventually die. She was a sacrificial lamb. What she felt threatened by was the fact that the Alpha was behaving differently with her. Angela wanted to be assured that she was still important to him, and she had quickly devised this scheme the moment she saw the wolfless ascending the stairs.
Alpha Sebastian had never liked to see her upset; he would buy her jewelry every time she cried, or pretend to remember the times his mother had treated her like a daughter. He had once hugged her and patted her back. He was kind and loving toward her, which made Angela confident he would choose her over this woman he was forced to marry.
She cried louder so he would hear from his room and come down quickly to deal with the bitch.
"I can’t believe she is standing there after pushing Angela," whispered some of the maids, giving Viola disgusted looks. They found her arrogant for someone who had come from the gutters of the North Pack and managed to win the competition. Shouldn’t she be apologizing? Was she seeking punishment from their Alpha?
"No doubt she has no idea who Angela is to the Alpha. If I were her, I would apologize immediately," mused another, as they had all believed, just as Angela had told them, that she was the Alpha’s bedwarmer and that he gave her gifts for that purpose. Angela was basically the Alpha’s woman.
"She cares more about her stupid phone than the Alpha’s woman," added a third.
Viola heard every one of their whispered words, and, in truth, they were right. She cared more about her phone than Angela’s injuries because it had been a gift from Zoe, something precious to her, while Angela was nothing but a senseless fool who had hurt herself on purpose just to make Viola look bad.
She cherished everything given to her by people she cared about, and she felt the back of her throat burn with anger at the fact that Angela’s stupidity had ruined something precious.
Viola’s eyes drifted to the omega on the floor, playing the victim. Her fingers clenched at her sides as she said firmly,
"I will give you only one chance to apologize to me, Angela. I will let this go if you drop the act and apologize for breaking my phone."
The other workers gathered around Angela gasped at the wolfless’s audacity to tell someone she had heartlessly pushed down to apologize. Just how arrogant could one person be?
Angela pressed more tears to her eyes as she said, "I-i will apologize to you if it will make you feel better, future Supreme Luna. After all, I am just a lowly omega and you are the soon-to-be Luna. I am sorry," she said, bowing her head, and grimacing in pain so everyone would pity her more.
The others couldn’t help but think that Angela had humbled herself to apologize, even though she was the one who had clearly been hurt by that vicious woman. They all glared at Viola with resentment, unable to see why they should respect her when she wasn’t even their Luna yet and was already being so heartlessly cruel to someone they believed was close to their Alpha.
What would happen to them if such a wicked woman becomes their Luna?!
Viola was aware that Angela’s apology was halfhearted and only given to earn more pity. As much as she wanted a sincere apology, it wasn’t going to bring back the broken phone and would only waste her time, time she should be using for something far more important than facing unnecessary drama that reminded her of her own past.
Before the Alpha could come down and potentially be misled into believing Angela’s act like the other workers, as Evan had once believed hers, Viola decided to leave the house without him.
She had started disliking him less and didn’t want any more reason to hate him to a no return level, knowing she would have to live as his wife and that hatred would only make everything unbearable. It was best to leave, especially since she had already seen how he seemed to have some hidden relationship with this particular omega.
Viola didn’t speak to Angela again as she began descending the steps to leave. But just as she reached the landing where Angela was sitting, faking serious injuries, the girl grabbed the hem of her yellow dress, stopping her.
"I have apologized to you. Don’t you think I also deserve an apology in return for being pushed?" Angela asked innocently, wiping her cheek with her other hand. She couldn’t allow the wolfless to leave before the Alpha came out and would do anything to delay her and let her face his wrath for hurting her.
Viola looked down at Angela gripping her dress. Her expression was blank, almost emotionless, as she stared at Angela with piercing blue eyes that made the girl want to cower. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
There was a sudden, strange energy radiating from the wolfless, but Angela forced herself to meet her gaze, reminding herself she was nothing but a wolfless. She didn’t have a wolf, so there was no way she could possess any suppressing aura, no way she could emit the kind of dominance radiating in the air.
And yet... why was Angela feeling a shiver crawl down her spine, as if she were standing before the Alpha himself?
Her throat went dry. She gulped down a mouthful of saliva, the sound loud in her own ears. Wasn’t it said the bitch was wolfless?
Viola crouched down to Angela’s level so only the girl could hear her words. "Drop the act right now. I will not warn you again, Angela. You are testing my patience," she said calmly, wanting the girl to understand that she wasn’t easily manipulated. Viola had been an expert in games like this before and if she was pushed to her limit, Angela wouldn’t like the outcome.
"What do you mean by ’you could kill me’? Why are you threatening me when all I asked for is an apology?" Angela cried, looking up at Viola with terrified brown eyes, making it seem as though Viola had just whispered a threat of death directly into her ear.
Viola looked at the girl and realized she wouldn’t drop the act; in fact, she was playing it deep and twisting everything. Viola suddenly sensed the Alpha’s presence approaching, and as the other omegas began to bow their heads, her heart gave a heavy thud.
Would he believe what Angela had said and punish her? She had played this kind of scheme before and never paused to consider how the other women felt when she had lied about them, but now, being in that position, Viola realized it was a very unpleasant feeling that made one dreadful.
However, she didn’t think she wanted to wait to find out who the Alpha would believe, not when she wanted to teach this Angela a lesson for ruining her phone and her mood.
Viola never wanted to be the person she had been four years ago again, but when it came to protecting the small allies she was building with the Alpha, she knew she had to respond to cheap, underhanded acts.
Angela’s ridiculous cries grew louder as she, too, sensed the Alpha coming down the stairs, and before he could reach the landing where they were, Viola did something that took everyone completely by surprise, their eyes widening in utter shock at what unfolded before them.
