At dawn, the sky was just beginning to lighten.

In the storeroom beside the palace kitchen, the air was filled with the fresh scent of vegetables and fruits.

Dim candlelight illuminated the dimly lit room, where a middle-aged man in coarse clothing was arranging the freshly delivered fruits and vegetables.

The man was Brandon, the merchant responsible for supplying fruits and vegetables to the palace, who had to prepare the ingredients before the kitchen started cooking each day.

"Are all the fruits here today?"

The queen's maid cautiously walked into the storeroom.

She wore a simple gray linen long dress, with a wicker basket on her arm.

"They're all here, Miss Aisha."

Brandon pointed to several wooden crates, a smile on his face,

"They're all fresh, the apples and pears were picked by slaves last night in the northern orchard."

The maid walked over to the crates and began selecting, she picked up a red apple and examined it carefully.

"Looks good, the queen is in a foul mood and needs these sweet apples to improve her emotions."

She placed the apple in the basket and began selecting seriously.

Upon hearing this, Brandon stopped his work, casually walked to the door, and looked around.

The palace patrol had just walked away, and the servant fetching water from the adjacent kitchen yawned groggily.

Brandon quickly turned back into the room, casually approached the maid.

"What's happened?"

Brandon asked in a low voice.

The maid's previous words were the secret code for a major event occurring in the palace.

The maid turned casually to look behind, speaking in a voice so low it was almost inaudible,

"His Majesty the Emperor... has died."

These words were like a bolt from the blue, the carrot in Brandon's hand instantly dropped to the ground with a dull thud.

"What? What did you say?"

Brandon widened his eyes, unable to believe his ears.

The maid immediately made a silent gesture.

"Keep your voice down! Don't let anyone hear!"

"Quickly, tell me what happened?" The merchant urgently pressed her.

Brandon listened to a brief description of what had just occurred, his expression growing darker.

"The Princess and her followers have sealed all information, intending to seize more power before others realize what's happening."

The maid solemnly instructed, "You must spread the news as quickly as possible."

Brandon nodded, ignored the baskets on the ground, and swiftly left the palace with a wooden cart.

The news of the Emperor's passing rode out of the palace with the turning wheels, into Riyue City.

The information was not only conveyed to Brandon's master but also sold at a high price on the black market.

Five days later, in the morning.

Southern Province, the outskirts of Giant Stone City forest.

In a desolate and dilapidated courtyard, a sturdy farmer was bending over, carefully placing cabbage seeds into the furrows.

Bishop Salido, draped in a gray robe, slowly walked into the yard, observing the laboring farmer with a smile on his face,

"You seem to be enjoying life here."

"After that death at sea, I find everything in life interesting."

The farmer slowly stood up, revealing a middle-aged face.

His disheveled hair was like dry grass in the autumn wind, his beard was thick and scattered, and his face was still dusty.

But his bright eyes were like fiery flames in the dark night, hardly something that an ordinary farmer could possess. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Furthermore, upon closer inspection, one could notice a resemblance between the farmer and the Emperor of the Empire.

The farmer patted the dust off his hands, looked at Salido,

"I'm glad to see you again, Bishop Salido, but,"

The farmer smilingly asked, "You're not just here for a reunion, are you?"

"Of course not."

Salido's smile widened,

"The Holy Light of my Lord has illuminated your path, Prince Jin Chui."

"Your nephew, Agnar, is no longer among the living."

These words dropped, causing the farmer, who was Prince Jin Chui, to suddenly become solemn.

He was silent for a long time, exhaled deeply, and shook his head slightly in lament,

"It's a pity he didn't die by my hand."

Prince Jin Chui looked up at the sky, his face marked by sorrow, as if recalling some sad event.

"Your Highness, please control your emotions."

Salido reminded, "I understand your grief, but as Agnar is no more, I ask you not to forget our previous agreement."

"Don't worry, I won't forget."

Prince Jin Chui snapped back to reality, saying, "Agnar wanted to keep me at sea to pave the way for his youngest son. If it weren't for your Dawn Church, I would now be just another skeleton beneath the sea like my child."

Prince Jin Chui spoke casually, as if discussing last night's dinner.

But really, Salido saw the madness in his eyes.

"Tell me, how did he die?" Prince Jin Chui asked gravely.

"You need not concern yourself with the details for now; they will only keep you immersed in sorrow. What's important now is the outcome."

Salido advised, "The Broken Rock Empire has lost its leader. Compared to the Princess, you are more suited to ascend the throne."

"I know, there's no need for your reminder."

Prince Jin Chui nodded, looking at Salido, "And I know once I'm Emperor, the Dawn Church can freely establish temples within the Empire."

"Without any restriction or impediment."

"Thank you for honoring your promise and for willing to embrace the Lord of Dawn."

Salido's face showed a satisfied smile,

"If you wish, I can arrange your baptism ceremony now to receive the Lord's blessing."

"There's no hurry for baptism, Bishop Salido."
