Falling into Her Trap: Don't Cross the Line, Mr. President-Chapter 149: Actions Speak Louder Than Words—Let’s Get Our Marriage License Tomorrow
Dinner was a delight for Claire Shaw, but Owen Crawford sat as if on pins and needles.
After dinner, Yvonne Crawford suggested taking Claire Shaw to the flower room to appreciate her gardening, leaving the living room to the men.
As soon as Claire Shaw left, Elliot Blackwood felt the atmosphere turning a bit awkward.
Ethan Blackwood sat lazily, with his elbow resting on the sofa’s armrest.
Owen Crawford stood with his head down, like a child caught doing something wrong.
"Ethan, the Crawford Family and ours are in-laws. Big Brother knows this matter isn’t difficult for you. Leave the work to me; all you have to do is make a few calls. Think of it as helping your sister-in-law and your little nephew."
Ethan Blackwood chuckled, "Big Brother, let me ask you, if someone arbitrarily spreads salacious rumors about your wife online and then hires thugs to take explicit photos intending to ruin her reputation, what would you do?"
"I would, of course..."
Elliot Blackwood began to curse, but suddenly realized Ethan was referring to Owen Crawford?
Connecting the strange mood among the group earlier, he swallowed his words.
"Is there some misunderstanding here?"
Owen Crawford frowned, "What explicit photos? I didn’t do that."
"Yasmin Yorke instructed a gang to abduct Ms. Shaw, nearly causing disaster. Last time, the underwater air tank incident nearly killed Ms. Shaw. Owen Crawford, I’ve shown leniency by not bankrupting the Crawford Family!"
Owen Crawford was baffled, "What underwater air tank?"
Ethan Blackwood sneered coldly, "Seems you’re a coward who dares not own up. Let me be honest, it was me who reported the Crawford Family, but every incident was real, and did I wrong you in any of them?"
"Uncle, there is some misunderstanding here. Yes, I did instruct Yasmin Yorke to inquire about Claire Shaw, but I wouldn’t harm her. Surely, it was Yasmin’s own jealousy..."
"If explanations were useful, why would we need the police? Your attempt to ruin Ms. Shaw is unforgivable. The Crawford incident is just a warning. If you dare act recklessly again, don’t blame me for forgetting we are family!"
Owen Crawford wanted to say more, but Elliot Blackwood stopped him, "Yes, this young man acted rashly and offended you; don’t take it to heart. Fortunately, Ms. Shaw is safe, and that’s what truly matters. We haven’t played chess in a while. Come, let’s have a game. Owen, prepare the chessboard."
In the flower room, Yvonne Crawford was direct, "Sister, today I invited you here for a favor. You and Owen have had some issues before, and I understand your feelings. Look, we will be family in the future. Can you please talk to Ethan and have him spare the Crawford Family?"
"When you marry into the Blackwood Family, as your sister-in-law, I can help and support you. In this high society, it’s all about resource exchange. You’re a smart woman; you must understand my point."
Claire Shaw’s fingers grazed over a vibrant rose, "Mrs. Blackwood, I was born slow, so I don’t quite get your meaning, but these flowers are lovely."
If she could learn to flatter and please, she wouldn’t be Claire Shaw.
Soon after, she saw a tall, slender man standing under the streetlight and waved to her.
Owen Crawford saw Claire Shaw dart into the man’s embrace like a joyful bird, without caring about others’ opinions.
Ethan Blackwood held her slim waist while she wrapped her arms around his strong back, pressing her cheek against his chest, "Let’s go."
The scene made Owen Crawford green with envy; this was the moment he once dreamed of!
Claire Shaw was as he had imagined, but the one holding her wasn’t him.
As they walked away, Yvonne Crawford pouted, "That girl is truly annoying, neither hard nor soft. She certainly won’t marry into the family."
Elliot Blackwood eyed her coldly, "Hadn’t you learned your lesson yet? Ethan spared you this time because of me. He only exposed your issues without adding fuel to the fire. If he caught any mistake, you’d never see the light of day tomorrow."
"I’m warning you, don’t provoke my cousin. He doesn’t abuse his power, but this was your warning; you’re not so lucky for next time."
"Husband, what should we do now?"
"What to do? Pay what you owe, make necessary corrections, and try to minimize losses. For the losses already incurred, I’ll find ways to compensate from other projects."
Yvonne Crawford finally smiled, "Husband, I knew you were the best. I’ll certainly give you a chubby boy, and we’ll be credited as Blackwood’s saviors!"
Elliot Blackwood had two children, but both were daughters. Although the White Associate favored Ethan the most, having a child first would make a difference.
"You should rest properly and stop worrying about these matters. And Owen, don’t provoke your uncle anymore, whether or not Claire Shaw marries into the family is beyond your concern."
"I understand, Uncle."
An unwilling gleam flashed in Owen Crawford’s lowered eyes, and he vowed to repay tonight’s humiliation doubly!
Good mood filled Claire Shaw; for the first time she felt triumphant after confronting someone face-to-face.
"Ethan, I didn’t know having a girlfriend was this beneficial."
Ethan Blackwood’s gaze swept over her smiling lips, "Baby, trust me, being Mrs. Blackwood is even more beneficial than being a girlfriend. Is your heart stirred?"
"I’m moved." Claire Shaw rested her chin in her hand.
"Actions speak louder than words, we can register tomorrow if you wish."
Each day Ethan Blackwood anxiously awaited the day Claire Shaw would marry him, fearing she might slip away.
Claire Shaw was aware of his thoughts but felt things were progressing too quickly and didn’t want to rush into registration.
At least wait until her career flourishes; she didn’t want to be a burden to Ethan Blackwood.
"No rush, it’s not too late to wait. I can’t just blindly marry out."
"Alright then, I’ll always follow your lead."
The car drove into Silvanest, and Claire Shaw pointed toward the distant reed boat, "The moon is beautiful tonight; shall we go sit on the boat? You promised to accompany me to admire the flowers."
Ethan Blackwood’s gaze deepened, "Are we admiring flowers or something else?"
"Guess?"
Claire Shaw removed her heels and jumped barefoot onto the boat. As it rocked, she clung to Ethan Blackwood’s waist to maintain balance.
"Ethan, can you row a boat?"
"Call me husband, and not only will I row the boat, I’ll get you the stars."
Ethan Blackwood took off his suit jacket and rolled up his sleeves, revealing his muscular arms.
Claire Shaw smiled at him, "I’ll call you husband after marrying you."
He didn’t mind as he picked up the bamboo pole and pushed it into the water.
Claire Shaw dipped her bare feet into the water; the bright moonlight combined with the lights around made the flowers beneath look splendid.
The small boat drifted into the depths of Lotara, and Claire Shaw playfully splashed the water.
Her anklet jingled.
Tingling...
Like enchanting heavenly music.
When Ethan Blackwood turned around, he saw the young girl playing with a lotus flower in her hand like a celestial fairy.
She was joyful, humming a tune cheerfully.
Ethan Blackwood’s Adam’s apple moved; he had no resistance against such a girl.
"Luna, I want..."
