Chapter 120: Chapter 120: Stop Calling Me Auntie, Just Call Me Mom!

In the rose-filled living room appeared an unexpected guest, a stranger woman whom Claire Shaw had never seen before.

The visitor had her hair in a ponytail, wearing a casual outfit and sneakers. Clearly a woman, yet her features were very deep and defined, and her face was about seventy percent similar to Ethan Blackwood’s.

Though she wore no makeup, her skin was in excellent condition, looking as if she were in her thirties. Could she possibly be Ethan Blackwood’s sister?

Claire Shaw was not familiar with the affairs of The Blackwood Family. "You are..."

The woman, with neatly trimmed nails, tapped the red roses, turned around, and reached out to Claire with a sunny face, "Hello, I am Ethan Blackwood’s mother, my last name is Lowe."

Mother!!!

Claire’s eyes almost fell out of their sockets. How could this even resemble a wealthy madam! She thought it was the sister from a neighboring family.

The first time she met Ethan Blackwood’s mother was when she woke up at noon, face unwashed, teeth unbrushed, still wearing her nightgown.

Oh heavens, just kill me now.

Claire was frozen in place, extending her hand like a robot, always polite, she stammered, "You, hello, you..."

Claire felt like a mute, opening her mouth only to utter "Ah ba ah ba."

This was Ethan Blackwood’s home after all; she couldn’t exactly entertain guests as the hostess, could she?

Seeing her unease, Vera Lowe gently said, "Do you want to freshen up first? It’s okay, I can wait for you."

There wasn’t a hint of disdain on her face, and Claire was so moved she almost cried, "Please wait a moment, I, I’ll be right back."

Vera watched the young girl run off with a "da da," a slight smile on her lips.

No wonder her son liked her so much, she was so well-behaved, like a little glutinous rice dumpling, fair and tender, soft and sticky, making her want to pinch her, imagining how nice it must feel.

Claire didn’t know what the woman was thinking as she was almost in tears, frantic in the bathroom brushing her teeth.

Though there’s an old saying that an ugly daughter-in-law will eventually meet her in-laws, not to mention she and Ethan weren’t even at the stage of discussing marriage, who meets the in-laws under such awkward circumstances.

In her panic, Claire hurriedly washed her face, brushed her teeth, tied a ponytail, and changed into a simple, elegant outfit before heading out.

Her face still had a lingering blush, nervous and apprehensive as she prepared to greet formally.

However, just as she stepped out, Vera Lowe waved at her, "Come, try my cooking."

Claire was extremely surprised as she watched Vera bring out a steaming large bowl.

She actually made breakfast for her!

"Auntie, you’re too kind."

"Oh, you’ve already slept with my son, why keep calling me Auntie, just call me Mom," Vera’s words made Claire’s face heat up instantly.

No way, who has a mother-in-law who talks to her daughter-in-law like this?

No, no, she hasn’t even decided to marry Ethan yet!

Claire’s mind was already a tangled mess. Someone, please help her make sense of the situation.

Ethan never mentioned having such an open-minded mom!

"Glutinous rice dumpling, come and eat quickly, or the noodles will get cold in a while."

Claire pointed to her own nose, "Are you calling me?"

Seeing her nervous and awkward look, Vera directly pulled her into the seat and pinched her face.

"Look at this pretty little face, so soft and tender, forget about my son, I like it just looking at it. Be good, the men from our Lowe family are very responsible. If my son dares to treat you badly after sleeping with you, just tell Mom and I’ll hit him for you."

Claire met the woman’s gentle gaze; it was a type of elder’s warmth she had never experienced before.

In those dark eyes, sparkles of light shone, unlike how so-called elders used to look at her.

Though this was her first meeting with Vera Lowe, she seemed to understand that Ethan Blackwood’s upright values couldn’t be separated from the education from his mother.

"Thank you," Claire sincerely thanked her.

She had thought wealthy madams were like Owen’s mother, but it seemed she had worried too much.

People are different from each other.

"Such a polite good child, now eat up."

Claire bowed her head, full of emotion ate a big mouthful.

Ugh!

Was that sweet and salty stuff supposed to be noodles?

The inside was still hard, and the taste was bizarre to the extreme.

Faced with Vera Lowe’s curious look, "Is it good?"

Claire managed to hold back her nausea and swallowed, "It’s good."

"I told you my cooking can’t be that bad; that little rascal Ethan is always complaining about me. But a daughter-in-law is so obedient and sensible."

With that, Vera sat happily opposite Claire, propping her face with her hands, stars shining in her eyes as she looked at Claire.

The expression no different from a star-struck adolescent girl.

"How does my son find these girls? Where did he find such a little fairy? Even eating is so beautiful. Tsk tsk, with that tiny mouth, my son is really lucky, getting to kiss such a pretty mouth every day."

Claire blushed, her shy voice soft and delicate, "Auntie, please don’t say that..."

"Oh my, the little glutinous rice dumpling is shy, how cute! Let me take a picture quickly, I’ll show it off to that rascal later."

Without Claire’s permission, Vera actually grabbed her phone and snapped away at her.

This mother-in-law, isn’t she a bit too enthusiastic?

How to put it? Her personality was straightforward and refreshingly neat, without any malice, making it easy for people to get close.

Claire actually finished the whole bowl of noodles; it was the first meal a senior had made for her, so she naturally cherished it.

Others often get things before losing them, but Claire’s situation was worse than theirs.

Because she had never gotten anything, she hadn’t lost anything either. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

She had walked from a muddy path to where she was now, like a beggar picking up scraps, carefully collecting all that she considered beautiful to cherish.

After eating, Claire was ready to tidy up in the kitchen when Vera pulled her hand over.

"Leave it, someone will clean up later. Such beautiful hands of my daughter-in-law weren’t meant for washing dishes and doing chores."

Claire looked at their hands clasped together, the woman’s hand was slightly larger than hers, palms a bit rough, especially the thumb web full of calluses, yet it felt very steady to Claire.

When she was younger, she would follow Miranda Shaw, reaching out to hold Miranda’s hand.

Every time she was disgusted, Miranda would glare at her, walking even faster, forcing Claire to jog to catch up.

Even if she fell, Miranda would never look back.

"Today’s weather is nice, do you have any plans?"

Claire subconsciously shook her head, and Vera smiled, "Then let Mom take you out to have fun."

That word Mom slipped so naturally from her lips as if they had known each other for years, without any awkwardness.

But Claire felt awkward and couldn’t bring herself to say it, so she obediently nodded, "Okay."

This brought on another round of doting from the woman, "Oh my, so obedient, my daughter-in-law is just so well-behaved!"
