Falling for the Omega Idol-Chapter 217: DANCE MISSION (IV)
HANEUL immediately felt confused. What did she mean both groups would perform on the stage at the same time? Would the live audience have to pick which contestant they liked the most from eight people dancing together? Would the team with the higher overall individual scores win? Did that mean the eight of them would have to practice together?
The others probably had the same confused expression, so Dyna continued to explain. "Of course, the two groups won’t have to perform all at the same time. The group with the number ’1’ on your cards will perform the first half of the song, while the group with ’2’ will perform the second half. Then, for the chorus, both groups will perform together on the stage."
Ah, so that’s how it is, Haneul thought. That made more sense.
But it was still surprising. He hadn’t expected them to come up with this kind of format. Did they do this in the Boys Odyssey from his previous world too? He wasn’t sure. Honestly, how the final debut team was formed was almost a blur in his mind. Well, that couldn’t be helped. It had been ten years, and he’d been very depressed at the time. So his mind had only held onto certain parts of the show, even as he watched it.
Dyna continued. "Since this is a dance mission, each group will have to create your own choreography for your assigned part of the song. But when you are all on stage together for the chorus, you will perform the original, official choreography." She added a final, important note. "And whichever member you choose to be your group’s center will also stand as the center during that shared chorus performance." She paused briefly, letting what he said register in everyone’s mind. "You will have a little over ten days to prepare. I will be back next week to check on your progress. Good luck to all of you."
Then she left the room. After she was gone, two staff members came in and gave each group a tablet. Both tablets already had the official dance practice video of Phenix performing [Over the Edge] loaded on them. The two groups separated and sat on opposite sides of the practice room.
Haneul sat in a circle together with his teammates - Baek Eunwoo, Jeon Hyunsik, and Lim Suho. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
"So, should we decide who will be our leader and who will be the center?" Baek Eunwoo began.
"I think Eunwoo-ssi would make a good leader," Haneul said. "I saw how you led your group during the vocal mission, and I really admired how you handled everything."
And he was not just saying that to be nice. He truly admired Baek Eunwoo’s leadership. Not everyone could so easily calm and encourage others the way the other had with his former teammates during the vocal mission. Even when his team lost against Haneul’s, Baek Eunwoo had not lost his composure and had still tried to lift his teammates’ spirits.
When Baek Eunwoo looked at him with surprise in his eyes, Haneul thought he might have overstepped. What if the other did not want to lead again? So, he quickly added, "Of course, you don’t have to do it if you don’t want to. It’s just a suggestion. I’m sorry if I put you on the spot like that."
Eunwoo was indeed surprised. He had not expected Kang Haneul to have that kind of confidence in him. His first thought was that the other might scheme, trying to push the responsibility onto him or to make him look bad if he refused. But seeing Kang Haneul’s expression now, he could tell the other really felt bad for the sudden suggestion. That meant Kang Haneul had been completely sincere when he said Eunwoo would be a good leader.
What an interesting guy, Eunwoo thought. Then he sighed a little to himself. Or maybe he was just too jaded, that the first thing he thought when Kang Haneul suggested him as leader was that the other might try to scheme against him.
He could only blame his ’good’ family for this.
Eunwoo finally gave his usual gentle smile. "If Hyunsik-ssi and Suho-ssi are fine with it, then I’ll take the leader position."
"Yeah, I don’t mind at all," Lim Suho said, giving a casual wave of his hand.
Jeon Hyunsik also offered a carefree smile. "Eunwoo-ssi can do it."
Eunwoo looked at Jeon Hyunsik with a mild smile. Before the other smiled, he had noticed his expression freeze for a second. Jeon Hyunsik probably thought he hid it well, but Eunwoo was used to dealing with two-faced people. There was a chance this guy thought he should be the leader, since he ranked the highest in their group. Maybe Jeon Hyunsik should ask Park Mirae for some tips. That Omega had real talent, talent for bullshitting people, that is.
"Thank you for trusting me. I’ll do my best as the leader," Eunwoo said simply with a smile. "Then, should we watch the dance practice video first before we decide on the center? That way we can get a better idea of who might suit the song the most."
When the other three nodded in agreement, he picked up the tablet and started the video.
The music started with a low, uneven beat. The members of Phenix stood in place with their feet apart and their knees relaxed. Their heads tilted down, then rolled slowly to the side, the movement controlled and unhurried.
As the intro continued, the center member stepped forward slightly. His shoulders moved in a smooth, rolling motion instead of sharp hits, one shoulder following the other. His arms lifted slowly to chest height, elbows bent, wrists loose, before settling back down. The other members followed the motion a half beat later, keeping the timing staggered.
They shifted their weight through their hips as they widened their stance. Their hands rose near their faces, fingers relaxed rather than tense. On the next count, their hands traced downward along the line of their torsos before dropping to their sides, their upper bodies leaning forward just slightly.
All their movements were very sensual, but they were also very technical in their own way.
