Chapter 251: The biggest mystery...

As night fell, Jareth and the group decided to camp for the night and stay near a river bend halfway back to the human empire.

Mark and the others pitched the tent and gazed at the stars as they sat around the bonfire.

"The scenery and other things were okay, but the food in the elven kingdom lacked in diversity and taste a lot..."

Hearing Mark’s complaints, Risa shook her head as she kept adding more wood to the fire.

"Well, elves are all vegetarian, after all... they don’t kill animals or eat them... In fact, they don’t even want to harm the plants either..."

"I am more surprised by the fact that they even have decent food when they don’t even have vegetables because they don’t want to harm the plants..."

Even Azul, who was chewing on the emergency ration biscuits, couldn’t help but complain.

"How are elves even surviving... I mean, with their stubborn personality, if they were to encounter humans, they wouldn’t survive at all!"

"They are too kind, and they stick too much to their old-fashioned traditions; if they established a trade network with the human empire..."

"Those cunning merchants will strip them naked of all their valuable things!"

Mark nodded his head and spoke in a solemn tone.

"Thankfully this time they might change their old-fashioned ways... their entire nation got in massive trouble, and if they don’t learn a lesson from this..."

"They will indeed be extinct as a race someday in the future..."

The trio sighed as they thought about the declining state of the elves.

Although they don’t like how elves behave, still they can’t help but worry.

After all, the elves were very friendly with them during the trip, and the three of them even made a lot of friends among the elves.

Even the elven princess has also become good friends with them.

The three couldn’t help but worry about the pressure that the elven queen and princess will need to shoulder from now on to revive this dying nation.

"By the way, where’s professor Jareth? I didn’t see him since we started preparing the bonfire..."

Seeing that Jareth has been gone quite some time, Azul couldn’t help but ask about him.

Hearing his question, Mark and Risa both shrugged their shoulders, as they also didn’t know where Jareth had gone.

"He’s always like this... always mysterious and always working on some big things behind everyone’s back..."

"I always get a weird feeling that if you take your eyes off him... he might just disappear from this world, and you might never get to see him again..."

Risa couldn’t help but nod her head in understanding at Mark’s words.

"Yeah, I also get this weird feeling from time to time..."

"To tell you the truth... I had an uncle who was a very cheerful person, but one day my aunt died while on an assassination mission..."

"He remained oddly cheerful even after that, but I always got the feeling that something about him was not right..."

"He was showing happy expression on his face, but his eyes and his aura was completely different..."

Risa sighed, and a frown appeared on her cute face.

"Well, it’s a weird feeling that’s hard to describe..."

"In the end, he ended up committing su*cide, and no one even found out about it until a week later... everyone just couldn’t grasp the situation at all..."

Risa glanced at the stars in sky and spoke with a serious look on her face.

"I get that same weird feeling from professor Jareth... he’s like a fading star that’s shining brightly, but it might disappear in blink of an eye..."

Azul couldn’t make head or tail of what the two of them were talking about, as he wasn’t as perceptive as the two of them.

Moreover, he hasn’t spent as much time with Jareth as the two of them has so he’s not sure about what to say at this moment.

If Jareth were here, even he would have been shocked to the core after hearing Mark and Risa’s words.

The two of them are indeed geniuses worthy of being called the best. Their intuition alone is so powerful that they have already gotten a hint about what Jareth’s planning for the future.

Even Jareth, who has ’mana singularity,’ doesn’t have such a power as ’intuition.’

In a world where magic dominates everything, the better your ’intuition’ is, the more powerful of a genius you would be.

To learn or implement powerful magic, you need just as much of a powerful ’intuition’ and learning capability along with immense magical talents and potential.

...

On top of a cliff nearby.

While Mark and the others were chatting and having a casual talk, Jareth was standing on top of the cliff staring at the stars in the sky.

’Another one disappeared... the influence of the Sea of Miasma has increased even more...’

From the very moment Jareth found out the truth of this world and figured out that the ’sky’ of this world is actually fake and it’s just an illusion created by the ’False Dome Seal,’ he been looking at the sky a lot more.

The stars shown in this sky are indeed fake; the real sky has already gone dark because outside that giant ’False Dome,’ there’s nothing but endless miasma.

The sea of miasma has destroyed all stars, planets, and every other celestial body that existed in the space.

But there are some things that even the Sea of Miasma couldn’t destroy.

There are celestial giants called the ’Black Hole’ that can influence the sea miasma just as much as they influence other things with their massive gravitational pull.

’Singularity... Infinite gravitational pull... a stable crack in the space-time fabric...’

’If I have the power of a black hole, I can make a stable ’wormhole’ easily without even needing to spend a little bit of mana...’

Black holes are not just terrifying existences that are dangerous, but if you have the power to control them, you will gain immense benefits out of it.

’This is very odd... why are the black holes disappearing one by one...’

Ever since Jareth started observing the sky, he wasn’t actually observing the false stars in the sky; he was using his mana singularity and perception to watch those black holes.

And during his observations, Jareth has noticed a very odd fact.

The black holes in space are slowly weakening and disappearing one by one as if some conscious entity is forcefully closing them.

’How much power would one need to forcefully destroy a black hole and close the gap the space-time fabric created by infinite gravitational pull of the ’singularity’?...’

’If there really is some entity who can do this... then I am afraid they can easily destroy the ’False Dome Seal’ along with the entire solar system here...’

’But if the demon gods outside had this ability, why wouldn’t they have destroyed this planet for so long...’

Jareth couldn’t understand what was going on outside the false dome barrier.

The false dome barrier greatly weakens the perception and mana detection capabilities; moreover, outer space is filled with miasma, which further weakens mana perception ability.

If not for that, Jareth could find out more about the things happening in outer space.

’I am still too weak in comparison to the power of this massive death trap...’

’And the fact is that the disappearance of these black holes isn’t even the biggest mystery I have come across...’

’I have a mystery that’s even more difficult to solve than this...’

Jareth looked down at his own hands, and a complicated look appeared on his face.

’The biggest mystery is how my soul even came to this world when the entire solar system is surrounded by the sea of miasma...’

Even a soul has to have traveled through somewhere to finally enter this body; it couldn’t have just popped out of nothingness. There must be a path for it!

’Is there a wormhole or some space crack inside the false dome barrier that I haven’t found out yet?...’

’But that’s simply impossible! Zeon has been searching this entire solar system for a way out for thousands of years!!’

’There’s no way he will miss something like that... if there really was a wormhole or a space crack, he would have already taken the people and left this place...’

Jareth glanced at the sky filled with mysteries again and thought in a serious tone,

’Where did my soul even come from!?’

’This is kind of giving me an existential crisis now... once I am done with most of my preparation and plans, I must travel this solar system at least once to confirm that I haven’t missed anything...’

’There must be a cause behind every effect... my soul must have some origin, otherwise it’s impossible to describe where I have from...’

’I must find the truth of this mystery, or I won’t really be able to move on further in the future...’

Jareth refused to believe that his soul crossed the entire sea of miasma just to enter his body; there’s no way a fragile soul of an ordinary human could have withstood such powerful corruption.
