Chapter 68: Chapter 68: Spying on Shentu Chu

Qiao Nian and her maid Su Mei were discussing some things. That day when Qiao Nian saw Shentu Chu for the first time, she had thought that he was up to some tricky and dirty things.

As they say, men liked to play around with women. It’s normal for men to have many mistresses outside the house.

Qiao Nian thought her future husband was going to meet a woman but it turned out that Shentu Chu didn’t! She and Su Mei sneakily followed him around, watching his every move.

He was a little strange.... She saw that he crushed an ice cream in his hands and allowed it to mess up his shoes. That was extremely odd. Wasn’t he part of the rich and upper class in Shengjing? He didn’t seem to mind messiness and walking around the lower class and middle class people.

Qiao Nian really found him to be interesting. He is very different from what they said online!

Su Mei came over with some tea. She poured some tea and sat down with her young miss. Su Mei had been serving Qiao Nian since they were kids. So Qiao Nian treated her like her sister, rather than a maid. The two were close.

"Young Miss, that eldest Young Master Shentu is really weird. Why would your father and grandfather agree to marry you to him? It’s not fair! Isn’t he an illegitimate son?!" Su Mei grumbled, feeling that her Young Miss would suffer in the Shentu family.

"Su Mei, he’s very different from what they said. My sisters have been taunting me, saying that I married an ugly and useless man. But he doesn’t look ugly at all!" Qiao Nian was excited. This was the first time she saw Shentu Chu.

She had seen his photo when her father showed her the fiancé she was engaged to. But he looked even more dashing than the photo. Come to think of it, Qiao Nian suspected that someone purposely photoshopped the photo to make him look ugly.

"Aiyoo, my young miss! Do you know what everyone in Shengjing calls him?" Su Mei lamented.

"What?" Qiao Nian’s round eyes twinkled in the sunlight that came pouring through the windows.

"He’s an illegitimate son! There are rumours that he is a bastard son! He might not even have the Shentu family’s blood flowing through him. No wonder they would let you marry him. They are practically giving you rubbish!" Su Mei cried with a sulking expression.

"But those are rumours.... He can’t be that bad," Qiao Nian sipped on her tea, her brown hair cascaded and covered half of her cheek.

"The Shentu family really has no respect for you! Why didn’t they engage you to their second young master, Shentu Jing? Why must it be Shentu Chu? I really feel sorry for you!" Su Mei looked like she was close to tears.

She naturally wanted the best for her young miss. But how could the Shentu family do this?! And why did Master Qiao and Old Master Qiao agree to it?

"Don’t worry, Su Mei," Qiao Nian took her hands in hers to reassure her.

"I’ll definitely find out who spreaded the rumours about Shentu Chu. It can’t be that he was born with these rumours? Someone must have deliberately done this," Qiao Nian was determined to find out the secret behind her fiancé. Then she would find a way to break up this engagement.

Why did this mysterious person spread rumours about Shentu Chu? What were their motives? And why did dad and mom agree to this marriage so willingly?

Qiao Nian’s mother was a materialistic woman. Would a woman who looked down on lower class people and anyone who doesn’t have one billion in their bank accounts, let her daughter marry such a scorned man like Shentu Chu?

Shentu Chu wasn’t even the CEO of the Shentu group. He could only serve as the CFO at most. He didn’t even hold any of the Shentu family’s shares in his hands. His status in the family was obvious. Everyone could see the way he was treated. His stepbrother, Shentu Mingye was treated way better than him.

Qiao Nian was suspicious of her family as well. Shentu Chu must have something that even her mother was willing to use her as a pawn to get it.

She understood her mother very well even though their relationship wasn’t close. Her mother favoured her elder sister Qiao Tong over her.

Qiao Nian only received love from her father and grandparents. She had another sister who had yet to come back to the country.

Why did my mother agree to the marriage back then? Qiao Nian and her mother were often cold to each other. They were estranged so Qiao Nian didn’t think anything good would come out of that woman.

"Luckily you spotted him! If not, I would never know what he looked like," Qiao Nian snapped out of her thoughts and playfully tapped Su Mei’s nose.

"It’s so easy. I’ve been reading the news everyday and searching for his news so that you’ll know what kind of person you are marrying," Su Mei pouted.

"Okay, okay. Don’t be sad for me. I know what to do," Qiao Nian smiled faintly.

I’ll investigate this Shentu Chu! I want to know why mom is bent on me marrying him. Why not her other daughter?

"Su Mei, i want you to find out where Shentu Chu is," Qiao Nian’s eyes glinted like she was eager to meet her secret lover. However, Su Mei was displeased.

"Young Miss, why would you want to see him? Have you fallen for him? There are a thousand men that are more handsome than him,"

"I didn’t. I want to see what kind of man Shentu Chu is. This thing you cannot tell anyone, including father. Do you understand?" Qiao Nian didn’t tell Su Mei that it was because she was suspicious of her mother’s and the Qiao’s family motives.

How could she tell? Su Mei was naïve and innocent. She would reveal any secrets if under pressure.

"Okay," Su Mei nodded with a smile.

Shentu Chu, just what are you really?
