Chapter 474: Does Fairy Tail have a branch?

"Summon, F4! No, F3? Kid? Ugh...Wraiths!"

After several failed guesses, Rhodes finally remembered the correct name. With a pale green shimmer from his pendant, three eerie creatures appeared in the air before him. One large, two small, each draped in ragged, shadowy cloaks and bearing long, bony claws. They floated a few feet above the ground, like specters risen from ancient graves.

"~"

"Hissss~"

Their voices rasped like haunted winds, each one a dry whisper that sent chills up Rhodes’s spine. Despite their ghostly appearance, they didn’t seem to be intangible, these so-called Wraiths had substance, and their claws gleamed with a dreadful sharpness.

He couldn’t help but notice the recurring aesthetic of this realm: pale, sickly greens, gray-whites, and unsettling, deathly tones. Even the wild monsters here looked like undead echoes of the real ones he knew.

With a thought, Rhodes summoned another group of Wraiths and ordered them to assist the six wolves who were already harrying the giant frog.

The Wraiths surged forward, claws flashing. Each strike left bloody gashes on the frog’s slippery hide, proving their physical force despite their spectral forms.

The frog, now bleeding and outnumbered, let out a deep croak and suddenly leapt, a single bound carrying it nearly a hundred meters away.

The wolves were tossed aside like broken branches, but three Wraiths had latched onto the frog’s back, their claws sunk deep into its flesh.

The frog leapt again, dragging them along as it tried to flee.

"That’s enough." Rhodes raised his hand and recalled the Wraiths.

There was no need to risk losing his summons just to chase down a beast in an unknown world. He didn’t know what other creatures lurked here, nor how far this place extended. Conserving magic and energy was the wiser choice.

Something was definitely interfering with his core magical systems. Either this world’s very nature suppressed them... or the strange space vortex that dragged him here had included a sealing spell. frёewebnoѵēl.com

Whatever the cause, it left him with only one thing he could trust: Summoning Magic. And even that worked strangely, only connecting him to this strange version of the world, likely Twisted Treeline, instead of his usual Summoner’s Rift.

The only reason anything was working at all must be because of the pendant. Its magic seemed to be operating independently, perhaps even shielding him slightly from the world’s suppression.

But for the first time in a long while, Rhodes felt a creeping sense of vulnerability.

Not because of the monsters.

But because Mira and Elfman weren’t with him.

When that suspicious magic activated, the three of them had been together. If Mira and Elfman also encountered danger nearby—and couldn’t use Take overMagic either, then the situation could quickly become serious.

He had to find them as soon as possible.

"Murk Wolves, find Mira’s scent," Rhodes commanded.

The six wolves sat still on the ground, staring at him in confusion, their eyes full of doubt.

Rhodes blinked, suddenly realizing, they didn’t know who Mira was, let alone how to search for her scent.

He needed to give them something with her smell. Thinking for a moment, he rolled up his left sleeve and untied the familiar hairband from his wrist. "Here. Smell this."

Fortunately, he often helped her tie her hair just for fun.

The wolves took turns sniffing the hair tie, then scattered, circling outwards to track her scent.

Meanwhile, the six Wraiths floated silently around Rhodes, keeping watch for danger.

As he waited for results, Rhodes tried to recall the name of the final group of small jungle monsters.

He also noticed a huge nest covered in spiderwebs located at the northern edge of Twisted Treeline. If memory served, it belonged to a giant spider monster, akin to the Baron Nashor in Summoner’s Rift, but with even more dangerous effects.

Unfortunately, there was never a proper official lore for this creature. It had only been mentioned briefly in the background of a now-retconned champion. Whether that story was still usable as reference was unclear.

Still, judging by its sheer size, the monster definitely wasn’t weak.

Suddenly, one of the Murk Wolves about a hundred meters away tilted its head and let out a soft howl.

"Woof~"

Soon after, the others also converged in that direction, barking lightly: "Woof~ Woof~"

One of them turned and trotted back, as if worried Rhodes wouldn’t understand, and began leading him.

"That way? Mira’s there?"

The wolf nodded.

Rhodes broke into a run, but two steps in, decided it was too slow. He hopped onto the wolf’s back and let it carry him forward.

The remaining five wolves took the lead, and the six Wraiths floated silently behind them.

All around, strange trees and exotic birds filled the unfamiliar forest. Occasionally, vicious-looking beasts crossed their path, but Rhodes didn’t want to waste time fighting them. Instead, he simply had the wolves charge straight through.

Perhaps it was the sheer number of them, but the nearby beasts didn’t dare make a move. After sprinting through unfamiliar terrain for what felt like forever, the Murk Wolves finally slowed down, stopping in front of a large, peculiar tree.

Rhodes narrowed his eyes.

There were doors and windows carved into the trunk, and above the entrance hung a sign engraved with the Fairy Tail emblem. Beneath it, the words "Fairy Tail" were written clearly.

Rhodes stopped in his tracks, stunned.

’A branch guild?’

He had never heard of any such place.

The Murk Wolves stared intently at the tree, sniffing. One let out a soft bark, as if saying, "This is it. Her scent is inside."

Whether Mira was still in there or had merely passed through, this was the only lead he had.

He slid off the wolf’s back and cautiously walked forward.

Just then, the wooden door creaked open, and a girl stepped outside.

"Where’s that barking coming from? Don’t tell me this place’s been exposed too—"

She was blonde, wearing a white bra under an open leather jacket, revealing her toned waist. Thigh-high black boots completed her bold, confident look. Her whole demeanor gave off the vibe of a battle-hardened older sister.

But her face—

"Lucy?" Rhodes blurted, recognizing her instantly despite the change in clothes.

She froze for half a second, then narrowed her eyes and stepped back defensively. "Who are you?"

Her gaze darted between the squatting Murk Wolves and the floating Wraiths behind Rhodes. Her tone turned sharp as she called out behind her, "We’ve got company. Possible King’s Army scout!"

From inside the treehouse came the sound of scrambling, chairs shifting, boots hitting wood. Two figures burst out behind Lucy.

"Tch. Another dog from the King’s Army? Don’t they ever give up?"

"What the hell are those freaky things behind him?" one added, eyeing the Wraiths with a grimace.

Rhodes recognized them almost instantly. Their faces were scarred, worn from battle, but their features...Jet. Droy. Or at least, versions of them.

But he wasn’t looking at them.

Inside the doorway, framed by the dim light of the treehouse interior, stood Mira.

She was leaning anxiously on someone, white hair, bowl-cut, strong build.

Elfman.

Right beside them, a short-haired, white-haired girl turned her head. Her face was older, more defined than the photo he’d seen that morning... but Rhodes recognized her at once.

’Lisanna.’

His heart skipped.

"What’s going on?" he muttered aloud.

"Hey! We’re talking to you!" Jet barked, stepping forward aggressively. "You with the King’s Army or not?"

Lucy cracked her knuckles. "You know my name, you show up here with freaky monsters. But good news, we caught you early."

"Droy!" she shouted. "Rally the others!"

"Already on it!" Droy called, ducking back inside. Sounds of weapons being readied filled the air.

"Wait, wait! I’m not your enemy!" Rhodes waved both hands urgently.

Then, without another word, he rolled up his sleeve, high enough to show his shoulder.

There, clear as day, was the Fairy Tail emblem branded on his arm.

Lucy, Jet, and Droy hesitated.

"Our guild’s emblem?" Lucy murmured.
