Fairy Tail: I Don't Want to Be the Guild Master-Chapter 468: Don’t Be Polite with Sister
Chapter 468: Don’t Be Polite with Sister
Makarov nodded. "In that case, we won’t force it. Let the other guilds deal with it."
Erza agreed without hesitation. "I have no objections."
Mira raised a point. "Shouldn’t we ask Mystogan too?"
Makarov shook his head. "He’s never shown interest in missions from other continents."
With that, the Guild Master made his decision. The Hundred-Year Quest would be sealed away once again.
After all, only a handful of people in Fairy Tail were even qualified to attempt it. And if none of them were confident, then there was no point pushing anyone into danger.
"Oh, and as for this year’s," Makarov glanced over at Rhodes, then waved his hand dismissively. "You can go now."
He was, of course, referring to the S-Class Promotion Trial.
To keep things fair for the other participants, it wasn’t appropriate for Rhodes to hear anything about the preparations or selections.
As for Mira... well, she could be trusted to keep a secret. Probably.
With no room to argue, Rhodes made his way back downstairs and returned to work.
He sifted through the pile of request forms that had come into the guild over the past few days, skimming through each one.
The job he was looking for wasn’t among them.
Maybe it had already been taken?
He flipped further back, and there it was.
A request from Dandelion Village.
That was the place where the fruit farmers had vanished.
Rhodes read the mission details carefully. Apparently, it wasn’t just the people who had gone missing, their entire homes had disappeared as well. There were no signs of destruction, no debris. Just... nothing.
As if the houses had been plucked from existence.
It was clearly no ordinary crime. Something magical had to be behind it, and the village had turned to a mage for help.
And the one who had accepted the job?
Mystogan.
Rhodes quietly closed the request ledger.
Since Mystogan had taken the mission, there was nothing to worry about. He’d never heard of Mystogan failing a single job.
Still... the thought crossed his mind: did no one ever feel even the slightest urge to smack that guy?
After all, every time Mystogan showed up, he cast Sleep Magic on everyone and vanished before anyone could say hello. You’d think someone would at least try to bonk him once.
That evening, Rhodes gathered Mira and Wendy.
It was time to head out to meet the Dragon.
Natsu still hadn’t returned since running off to challenge Gildarts. Maybe he’d been beaten so badly that he needed time to recover.
Wendy tilted her head. "Should we call Gajeel?"
"I haven’t seen him in the guild these past few days," Mira said thoughtfully. "And it doesn’t look like he’s taken on any missions either."
Rhodes wasn’t exactly enthusiastic about bringing Gajeel along.
"We’ll definitely bring him next time."
So the group,, three people and one cat, set out, riding atop two crabs. They wore thick cloaks to guard against the wind.
Carla poked her fuzzy head out from Wendy’s collar, her round face nestled just above the zipper. The sight was so cute that Mira leaned in and quietly pointed it out to Rhodes with a grin.
Rhodes chuckled and patted his own chest, gesturing that Mira was free to snuggle in the same way.
She shot him a glare and shook her head. Absolutely not.
They soon arrived at the wide open clearing, the same spot where the Purgatory Dragon had descended last time. The earth was still blackened and scorched from that encounter, the remnants of its blazing aura. The suffocating smell of sulfur, though once thick in the air, had mostly faded.
Some parts of the terrain had clearly been disturbed, dug up, perhaps by mages investigating or miners scavenging.
Rhodes assumed the Cloud Dragon was probably growing impatient by now, so he didn’t waste time. He stepped forward and held up the pendant. "Summon, Cloud Dragon!"
"You’re late!"
Before her form had even fully materialized, the Cloud Dragon’s voice rang out, sharp, quick, and filled with sass.
She sounded like an impatient older sister, rattling off her words so fast they nearly blurred together. "What were you doing yesterday, huh?!"
Rhodes caught fragments like "You too," and "Yesterday what," but had to really concentrate just to understand she’d spoken two separate sentences.
"Ah, sorry, I..."
"I know, I know, you didn’t want to cause a commotion, just like that Mountain guy." The Cloud Dragon cut him off, still speaking at lightning speed. "I’m Cloud Dragon. Call me Cloud. Or Sister Cloud. Or Sister Wind. Doesn’t matter. You’re Rhodes, right?"
She spoke so quickly that Rhodes could barely keep up. It was like trying to catch individual gusts of wind in your hands.
"Yes, I’m..."
"No need to confirm it, I already know! You’re Rhodes, our Summoner! If you ever need help, just ask your sister! I might not be as strong in battle as Purgatory Dragon, but I’m way more practical! Need scouting? Flight? Weather support? I’ve got you!"
"Ah, thank..."
"No need to be polite with your sister! I already gave you my Dragon Soul yesterday, study that first! We’ll talk about the rest later, okay?"
Rhodes couldn’t help but think of that scene in Zootopia, the conversation between Judy the rabbit and Flash the sloth.
Somehow, he had a strong suspicion that in Cloud Dragon’s eyes, he was the slow-talking Flash... or maybe everyone was Flash.
Cloud Dragon sniffed the air around them, her nose crinkling in distaste. "Ugh, the smell of sulfur from that fire guy is everywhere. So annoying!"
With a casual flap of her wings, a breeze swept through the clearing. Mira and Wendy’s hair fluttered gently as the wind carried away the lingering scent. In just moments, the oppressive stench that had lingered in the air vanished completely.
Mira’s eyes widened. "That’s incredible Wind Magic!"
She didn’t specialize in wind spells, but even she could recognize the scale and subtlety of the magic, a wide area effect, soft and even force, with perfect results.
Rhodes understood it even better.
Now he realized why Cloud Dragon had given him her Dragon Soul in advance, probably to let him use this kind of magic. Unfortunately, his attempt the day before had likely left her disappointed.
Once the sulfurous air was gone, Cloud Dragon’s mood clearly improved. She lowered her head to Wendy and spoke rapidly as always, but this time, she seemed to slow down intentionally: "You’re Wendy, right? Try using a Roar on me."
"Eh?" Wendy blinked in confusion, trying to keep up. "You mean... Sky Dragon’s Roar?"
"Yeah. Right at me. Full blast."
Carla narrowed her eyes. "Why would you want her to do that?"
"No need to overthink it. Just do it. It won’t hurt me."
"Okay!" Wendy didn’t question her further and inhaled deeply.
Rhodes suddenly realized, so that’s why she made sure the air was clean first. Despite her impatient nature, Sister Cloud was unexpectedly thoughtful.
"Sky Dragon’s Roar!"
A howling wind shot straight toward Cloud Dragon, swirling into a violent tornado that engulfed her head entirely. Her sleek, feathered scales shimmered in the gale.
Yet behind her, not even a speck of dust was kicked up.
It was as if she’d absorbed the full force of the attack, her soft, cloudlike scales dispersing the wind entirely, leaving the area behind her untouched.
Carla gasped. "She didn’t even flinch!"
Though Wendy wasn’t the strongest caster in the guild, Dragon Slayer Magic was designed to fight Dragons. And now it had been absorbed effortlessly, with zero effect?
"That’s not how you use a Roar," Cloud Dragon said, shaking her head. She turned to both Wendy and Rhodes.
"You two, listen carefully. Wind can cut, it can pierce, and it can flow. The key is focus. Whether it’s sharp focus or wide focus, it needs to converge, to concentrate. Got it?"
Both Wendy and Rhodes shook their heads in unison.
Honestly, who could keep up with a high-speed lecture like that?
"I explained it perfectly! What’s not to get?" Cloud Dragon huffed in disbelief.
"Fine, I’ll demonstrate. Summoner, use Mountain’s power to make two targets. Big ones."
