Facing the Apocalypse with My Other Selves-Chapter 274 - 173: Battle to Annihilate the Gods!
For example, the Water Source God.
This deity is merely a middle-level god, but her hands are stained with the blood of countless humans.
She could not expect that after the Magic Empire won this war, they would ever spare her.
So, upon sensing the Thunder God’s wailing, she was the first to strike.
She was even repeatedly sending messages to other deities.
"We can’t afford to foolishly delay any longer! We must make that damned Magic Emperor’s trial end in total failure. Only if he fails can we drive him out of our world!"
The deities of this world, in some sense, really are nothing more than ignorance and unwillingness personified.
But that doesn’t mean they’re so stupid that they lack even the most basic logic.
For a deity like the Water Source Goddess, only by clinging to such extravagant hopes could there be even the slimmest chance at survival.
As for a deity like her, she could probably never have imagined that one day, death would descend upon her with such palpable clarity.
She really was on the verge of madness.
There was not a shred of hesitation in her actions.
And many of the other deities, after some hesitation, also chose to strike.
The reason was simple—their hearts still scorned humanity, utterly unable to accept bowing to mortals.
Moreover, situations like this were becoming ever more frequent.
Not because every deity valued their so-called dignity above their lives, but because many Main Gods were exerting pressure by taking action.
The apocalypse had always been driven by the Main Gods.
Even though Wizard Shen Yu had never said it outright, every deity could sense one thing from his words and deeds.
—The Main Gods must die!
This was inevitable.
When it comes to arrogance and pride, how could ordinary gods ever compare to those truly lofty Main Gods?
Except for the Goddess of Death and the Sky God, the rest of the Main Gods habitually looked down upon the mortal realm, rejecting all that humanity had to offer.
In such a situation, even with Wizard Shen Yu leading a host of Cultivators slaughtering the Thunder God in such a short time, he could not prevent this war from breaking out.
"It’s time." Wizard Shen Yu clenched his fist fiercely. "Time to end this apocalypse!"
That’s right, it truly was time.
The Magic Empire—or rather, Human Civilization—was fully prepared!
"Then let us begin." Cultivator Shen Yu’s fighting spirit was rising as well.
He was the last to arrive at the accord, but these days he had already gained some understanding of the Association.
He clearly knew that, aside from the comparatively simple Martial Arts World, the apocalypse in the other three worlds was anything but simple.
Take the Magic World for example—if it had started off as it did, even all the Shen Yus together would have despaired.
They had even tried multiple times to persuade Wizard Shen Yu to accept failure, not to get too attached to the Magic World, and if necessary simply escape with wife and friends.
But even in such despair, with a mix of luck and effort, they had made it to this stage.
"You should have already understood the Main God’s power." Cultivator Shen Yu looked at the three Cultivators. "Make your decision, quickly!"
The three exchanged glances.
They began the vote immediately.
"I agree that everyone should be called," Taihe Earth Immortal said. "The Main God’s power is truly immense, by no means can any ordinary Earth Immortal defeat that; there is a chance that Earth Immortals will fall in this war, but compared to the potential benefits, I consider it entirely acceptable."
"I do not agree with forcing everyone to gather," the elder Earth Immortal responded, stroking his long beard with a grave expression. "I’ve been observing all along—what really happened was the Main God was caught off guard, but in the final moment, the power that burst forth, Taihe, you should know best, that power drew on the entire Plane, the infinite might of the whole world. It could utterly surpass you."
This old Earth Immortal wasn’t unaware of the other meanings behind this matter.
For example, that the Association was certainly observing from behind the scenes.
They were unwilling to take risks for other worlds and that could very well result in a chain of adverse consequences.
After all, the uncountable worlds connected to the Association are all threatened by apocalypse—if in everything one only thinks of one’s own interests, takes without giving, abandonment or loss of support is likely.
If it came to that, everyone would have to bear the dire consequences.
Yet the elder Earth Immortal still spoke firmly.
Because he knew, Dan Sword Immortal only had one choice, and his opposition wouldn’t affect the eventual outcome, but would at least present part of their viewpoint.
As expected, Dan Sword Immortal voted without the slightest hesitation.
"The path of cultivation is both following and defying destiny; seeking longevity means facing life and death over and over—for such opportunity, even such threat is more than worthwhile."
The Sword Immortal’s way is fundamentally incompatible with refusing war or shrinking from adventure.
That was why Dan Sword Immortal had only one choice from the very start.
Two to one.
The three swiftly decided, nodded to Cultivator Shen Yu, and then vanished together.
They were returning to report the matter and give their orders.
On the other side, Wizard Shen Yu was not surprised by this outcome either.
He was already back atop the throne.
Although his own power was immense, he knew that sitting on the throne at this very moment did more for the war than appearing at the frontline of any city.
"Have the Magic Mirror Images been set up?" Wizard Shen Yu asked.
In front of him already sat hundreds of different mirrors.
Within these mirrors, countless densely packed figures appeared.
All were the highest officials in each city, or their chief deputies.
"Your Majesty." Upon seeing Wizard Shen Yu, all present bowed formally.
Clearly, this particular kind of meeting was no rarity in their world now.
Many of them had attended these more than once before.
And now, the arrival of Wizard Shen Yu made more than a few of them breathe a sigh of relief.
Though Wizard Shen Yu had not been Magic Emperor for long, by now he had surely amassed tremendous prestige.
This lay not only in his power, but in the fact that everyone knew—the Magic Emperor was the world’s sole savior.
That alone was enough to bestow supreme authority.
"Bring forward the cities directly under attack by True Gods," Wizard Shen Yu ordered again.
In an instant, the Magic Mirror Images at the front shifted.
There stood thirteen cities, and each was beset by crisis.
Colossal divine-made monsters, driven to a frenzy, each one displaying an unimaginably terrifying form, were madly assaulting the cities.
Wizard Shen Yu saw the tentacle of one monster repeatedly slamming against a city’s barrier.
It sent out ripples again and again.
This meant the force of the blows had already reached a shocking degree.
Bear in mind, the defense barriers of every city were no longer just designed against magic or deities; they also used powerful interstellar civilization technology.
Such technology offered incredibly strong resistance to physical attacks.
Yet they were still being threatened like this.
It could be seen—these divine-made monsters had indeed been strengthened.
"The direct arrival of deities has greatly enhanced the divine-made monsters," a Mage in charge of a certain city reported grimly. "The gods’ powers are continuously influencing and corrupting the battlefield, but they still shy away from direct combat, keeping themselves hidden. Our Godslaying Cannons cannot get a lock."
Godslaying Cannon—what an unambiguous name.
Just hearing it, one knows what such a weapon is for.
In truth, though the gods seemed to have gone utterly mad, those truly arriving at the battlefield—especially this first wave—were extremely wary.
"The instinct for survival keeps them from blindly throwing their lives away."
Wizard Shen Yu never overestimated the deities’ intellect, but he wouldn’t underestimate the force of survival instincts either.
But no matter what—this was a war to slaughter gods!
