Extra's Strategy: Cultivate Protagonists, Become Invincible-Chapter 166: Birds Of A Feather, Flock Together
Chapter 166: Birds Of A Feather, Flock Together
His conversation with the sect master assured Han Xuhan of one fact at least; he was a very valuable asset, for now. He could get away with a lot of acts that wouldn’t be approved of under ordinary circumstances.
Since Xuan Zi was willing to overlook the details of the amount of resources he’d be collecting from the treasury, Han Xuhan became a bit more confident in his ongoing business scheme.
After yesterday’s fiasco, he hadn’t been certain whether it would be possible to continue with the lectures anymore. But now, he knew he could shoehorn his way through any possible bans.
So, on his way back home, he made a detour to Xuanyuan Zhou’s hut. He had feared she might not be inside, not knowing what took place after all the Elders and the Sect Master himself had snatched her off for interrogation.
But thankfully, Xuanyuan Zhou turned out to be fine and relaxed in the yard, squatting over a small anthill with great curiosity on her face as she watched the activities of the ants. Han Xuhan’s face lit up upon seeing her.
After her ’impressive lecture’ yesterday, many more disciples would surely be interested in knowing what exactly was being taught there. The business would surely spike upwards soon, heheh....
"My Lady, what exactly did you do yesterday? Not that I’m complaining that you’ve improvised the script but... what the hell did you do?" That was the first thing he blurted out as soon as he sat down in front of her.
Xuanyuan Zhou scanned him up and down with a calculative look in her eyes.
"Attendant Xuhan, do you remember the law seals on our foundation towers?"
"...Yes, I do. I remember very well," Han Xuhan said slowly.
"I executed a very ancient, risky experimental technique to use the spiritual harmony of numerous low-level cultivators to summon a heavenly tribulation reserved for forbidden evil techniques. You can think of it as an alarm mechanism.
"There are some cultivation techniques and spiritual activities associated with them which the heavenly mandate has expressly forbidden from time immemorial. Whenever the signs of such techniques appear under the sky, the laws of the world will instantly try to obliterate it through various means such as deadly heavenly tribulations and great natural disasters."
Xuanyuan Zhou explained this in a deadpan voice, leaving Han Xuhan stunned. As he thought back to the spectacle yesterday, remembering the heavenly phenomenon in the sky, a chill enveloped his back.
"Taking reference to one such technique recorded in an ancient book I read some years ago, I summoned a weak tribulation cloud through my lecture. And I used its destructive refining power to wipe off the law seal from my foundation tower."
Han Xuhan’s previous suspicion was confirmed at that moment. Qian Yun had indeed not lied when he said that Xuanyuan Zhou had escaped his forceful summon by the smallest possible margin.
Heavens above! What kind of technique did she execute? Executing techniques forbidden by the heavenly mandate to take care of her personal issue? So bold?!
"And this is also why I didn’t tell you about it in advance. I wasn’t sure that you’d agree to take the risk. I wasn’t even sure if I’d survive the tribulation. Many things could have gone wrong. Of course, now that I’ve succeeded, I think it’s going to benefit us in more ways than one.
"On one hand, you can also use this technique to remove the law seal from your foundation tower. On the other hand, it’s going to boost the reach of your business, bringing in many new customers to the lectures.
"The whole sect is under the impression that the Force-type law technique is the reason behind the heavenly phenomenon, after all. Who will let go of the opportunity to check it out for free?"
Han Xuhan stared at her with a complex expression.
She had taken the risk without even considering his opinion, knowing how much he had put on the line. Would it be wise to trust her to stick to the script in the future?
"...My Lady, during the initial part of the lecture, why didn’t you follow the script we devised? Where did you get that kind of insight on the language of laws?"
"Law Cultivation techniques aren’t as rare as you think. The Holy Land’s influence is pretty distinctive in the history of our world. In the royal library of my city, I read many introductory books on such techniques. I just didn’t tell you because I wasn’t sure if I’d survive the first lecture."
Perhaps his suspicion was a bit too obvious on his face, because Xuanyuan Zhou hesitantly revealed a bit more information after seeing his face.
"That was also the actual reason why I could quickly navigate my way through the Holy Land of Laws. I read a lot about the Holy Land in its heyday. I was familiar with the design of their cultivation method. I just didn’t expect it all to be a trap."
"I see, I see. It all makes sense now!" Han Xuhan exclaimed in a naive tone while internally raising his guard up even more frantically. While her explanation did make sense, he would be a fool to completely believe her.
He had already been fooled due to her unclear agenda multiple times by now, and the problems popping up around her were getting more and more disturbing every time...
This excuse of ’reading ancient books from a royal library’ was getting old. She brought it out to explain all of her abnormal activities.
Nevertheless, he still needed her help. And he knew she needed him to produce results for her ’experiment’. The two sides could close one eye and continue to cooperate for a while longer in peace.
"Ah, that settles my concerns, then, My Lady. Hopefully, the sect master didn’t make things difficult for you after taking you away for interrogation," he said in a relieved tone.
"Oh no, not at all! The sect master was actually quite impressed by the method and asked me if I would sell it to him. He offered a pretty good price, and I do need the money.
"It’ll probably be a technique restricted to the upper floor of the archives. Summoning heavenly tribulations is no joke," Xuanyuan Zhou said lightly.
Han Xuhan instantly made a mental note to try to get a peek at the technique as soon as it appeared in the archives. That was too awesome a technique to not check out!
But there was something even more important he needed to make sure.
"Since your financial problems are now taken care of, you’re not going to renege on our deal, right? Please tell me you’re not planning to stop teaching, My Lady!"
Xuanyuan Zhou shook her head with a short laugh, something that finally calmed his nerves for the first time during their conversation.
"Don’t worry, Attendant Xuhan. A deal is a deal. Besides, you know I cultivate multiple techniques on multiple paths. The payment I got from the sect for the technique is barely enough to last me a few weeks. I’ll be dependent on your business scheme afterwards!"
"Then... My Lady, can you help me cultivate on multiple paths as well?" Han Xuhan asked with hopeful trepidation.
"Sure!" Xuanyuan Zhou shrugged lightly. "Just increase my share of profit in our partnership by a few percentile, and it’ll be enough payment for private lessons!"
"...." Han Xuhan scratched his head awkwardly.
As they say, birds of a feather, flock together. No wonder he got along with this young lady so well!
