Chapter 22: Selena Carter

"Are you always this good at ignoring people?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

Liam blinked, still caught off guard. "Uh, I—" he stammered, unsure of how to explain his behaviour without sounding rude.

Selena smirked, clearly enjoying his discomfort. "You really thought I was calling out to someone else, didn’t you?"

"To be fair," Liam said, finding his voice, "I didn’t think the great Selena Carter would be stopping her car to talk to me. An extra."

Selena’s smirk softened into something closer to a smile. "First of all, you’re not just an extra. Second, I’ve been meaning to talk to you since earlier today, but you’ve been busy impressing everyone on set."

"Talk to me?" Liam repeated, still baffled. "Why?"

Selena leaned slightly out of the window, her tone casual but direct. "I saw your driving. It wasn’t just good—it was impressive. You’ve got real talent, and I wanted to say so in person."

Liam’s cheeks flushed slightly, and he scratched the back of his head, unsure of how to respond. "Thanks," he said after a pause. "That means a lot coming from someone like you."

Selena nodded a warm smile on her face. "You are welcome."

She hesitated for a moment, then leaned slightly closer to the window, her tone more casual. "So, are you free right now? Or do you have any plans?"

Liam blinked, her question catching him off guard. "Plans?" he repeated, thinking briefly before shaking his head. "No, not really. I don’t have anything going on right now."

Selena smiled faintly, her long lashes fluttering as her big, expressive eyes locked onto his.

"Good," she said, her tone warm but slightly teasing. "Do you want to hang out for a while? I can drop you off at home later if you want. There’s something I’d like to talk to you about."

Liam’s mind raced as he processed her words.

’Hang out?’ He glanced at her, noticing the ease in her expression, the slight curve of her lips that made the invitation feel genuine. There was no hint of condescension or ulterior motive—just curiosity and a touch of sincerity.

For a moment, he hesitated. Was this really happening? Selena Carter, one of the biggest names on set, was asking him to spend time with her.

But then he reminded himself of his earlier thoughts.

The more connections, the better.

"Sure," he said finally, nodding with a small smile. "Why not?"

Selena’s smile widened slightly, and she unlocked the passenger-side door with a click. "Hop in."

Liam slid into the passenger seat of the G-Wagon, the scent of leather and the faint perfume of Selena filling the cabin.

’She smells really...nice.’ He thought as he checked the interior of the car.

The interior was immaculate, the dashboard gleaming with high-tech features he didn’t even recognize. He buckled his seatbelt, feeling slightly out of place but determined not to show it.

Selena glanced at him as she started the car.

"Comfortable?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Yeah," Liam replied, nodding. "This is... nice. Really nice."

Selena chuckled softly, pulling out. "It’s just a car," she said, though the amused tone in her voice suggested she was well aware of how impressive it was.

As they drove, Liam glanced out the window, the cityscape rolling by in a blur of lights and buildings.

He couldn’t help but steal glances at Selena, wondering what she could possibly want to talk to him about. She didn’t seem to be in a rush, her posture relaxed as she drove.

"So," Liam said, breaking the silence. "What did you want to talk about?"

Selena glanced at him briefly, her expression thoughtful. "We’ll get to that," she said. "First, let’s just unwind a bit. Long day on set, right?" 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Liam nodded, leaning back in his seat. "Yeah, definitely. But it was a good day."

Selena smiled faintly, her eyes focused on the road.

The conversation flowed easily as they continued driving, Selena asking Liam about his background, his goals, and what had brought him to Los Angeles.

He answered honestly, sharing bits and pieces of his journey without delving too deeply into the struggles he had faced.

Selena listened attentively, occasionally nodding or asking follow-up questions that made him feel like she genuinely cared.

When they reached their destination, Selena pulled into a small café with a cosy outdoor seating area. "Let’s grab something to drink," she said, parking the car.

Liam hesitated briefly. "Are you sure? I mean, won’t people recognize you?"

Selena smirked, pulling a baseball cap from the centre console and slipping it on. "Let them. It’s fine. Come on."

With a shrug, Liam followed her out of the car, his mind still racing.

’This is not how I thought today would end,’ he thought as they walked toward the café.
