Extra's Revenge: Reincarnated As A Slave-Chapter 70: Lighting The Spark (Part 2)
’This guy is dangerous...’
Davin felt his heart beat loudly in his chest as he stared at the mysterious stranger in front of him.
’Can I win? I’m not sure...’
He was one of the weaker members of the Sunlit Order, and although he had an affinity for two Arts, he never developed Chaos Art since it was forbidden.
That left only Curse Art for him to work with.
’But Curse Art isn’t the best for sudden confrontations like this. It’s best utilized with sufficient time and preparation, but I doubt this person will give me that opportunity.’ He clenched his teeth and felt an urge to retreat.
But how could he?
Doing so would jeopardize his allies.
That was akin to betrayal.
’I just need to stall for time. Once Sir Logan returns to the Manor and notices I haven’t made it back, he’ll come searching for me. I could try reaching out to him or anyone else now, but doing so will only reveal our communication channel to this person, which I can’t afford to make happen!’
Davin was sure.
Logan would come for him!
He only had to hold out for some time, and if he could kill this mysterious person, it would be most preferable. Then Logan could search his Soul for any trace of memories related to the ongoing investigation initiated by the Family Head.
Doing so would allow them to confirm everything the Desgarron Family knew about the Sunlit Order.
’Alright...’
Davin brought out a sharp dagger from beneath his cloak and spun it around his fingers, getting a quick feel for the weapon.
’Curse Art...’
He crouched with an undeterred display of aggression, lethal intent evident in his large eyes.
’Projection Technique #9: Minor Imbue.’
In that instant, Davin felt his body becoming lighter and his strength experiencing a qualitative change.
The mysterious person must have noticed, as he quickly charged at him.
WHOOSH!
Davin evaded the assault, hurriedly switching his grip on the dagger from a slashing position to a stabbing one.
The opponent moved quickly.
He dodged the initial attack and tried to tackle him, but he created some distance and decided to slash instead.
This caused the attacker to maintain their gap until Davin had enough breathing room.
It didn’t last for long, though.
The masked man approached him again, this time clenching his fist and sending swings flying at him.
He dodged all of them, but couldn’t help but notice his immense strength and speed.
’What Technique is he using? Is he also a Curse Art user? No, he reeks of Chaos Art. He must be using a corresponding Technique to mimic my physical enhancement.’
If only Davin knew...
Rey was not using any Techniques.
This was simply his ordinary strength and speed as a Soulless.
’He’s keeping up with me and learning my moves. I can’t let this go on...’ Davin began to panic when his opponent stopped dodging and started to parry or redirect his attacks.
He could even block now.
The sheer speed of his adaptability was frightening, and the fact that they were so close in physical prowess made it even worse.
The pressure was increasing.
He had to improve his odds somehow.
’How about this...’ He sent his dagger charging at the masked man, going low this time around.
As expected, it was blocked with relative ease.
But this was what he wanted.
—Physical contact!
’... Binding Technique #9: Restrictive Word!’
As soon as he activated this, Davin spoke in a loud voice, authority seeping from his lips.
"Be slower!"
Once these words echoed in the air, he switched his stance and targeted Rey’s head this time.
But—
SWOOOSH!!!
—Rey easily parried the attack.
’What the hell? The Binding Technique didn’t work? His speed didn’t decrease one bit!’In fact, Rey was getting more and more used to Davin’s attack patterns.
It was frightening.
Too scary!
’Why? Did he use a Null Art right in time? Or is it his Chaos Art?’
What Davin didn’t know was that Rey didn’t use any Technique or Art this time either. His Soulless Body was simply filled with Chaos Energy which rejected and corrupted other kinds of energy.
The Curse Imprint that Davin placed on him was quickly consumed by that overwhelming Chaos Energy.
Unless Davin used a considerably higher Curse Technique on him or spent a lot of Ether on his Sequences, there would be no effect.
Even with higher Sequence Techniques, their effects would be reduced because of the Chaos Energy rampaging in Rey’s body.
So what was the best approach here?
Honestly, it was to use Techniques under the Chaos Art. Not only would they not be extinguished, but their effects could actually be amplified thanks to the abundant Chaos Energy in his body.
Unfortunately... Davin never developed his Chaps Art affinity.
Even if he had, he would never use it.
Not like this.
After all, it was a filthy power and a disgrace to the Sunlit Order.
What did all of this mean?
Without even realizing it, Rey had become the natural predator of Davin.
No, not just him.
All the Sunlit Members would experience a similar level of frustration and powerlessness against him.
That was his biggest advantage!
’T-then, how about this—!’
Now gritting his teeth, Davin activated two Curse Techniques at once, both of which belonged to the Projection Technique.
Sequence 8: Attribute Grant
Sequence 7: Quality Enhancement.
He no longer desired to restrain himself, considering the nature of his enemy. Although he was waiting for Logan as his backup, he could not afford to lose either.
Of the two Techniques he knew under the Curse Art, he was mostly proficient in the Projection Technique.
He even had access to the 6th Sequence.
Binding Techniques was largely referred to as Negative moves, while Projection Techniques were positive.
That’s because the former imposes restrictions that limit behavior or possibility.
For example, the Sequence 9 Technique from earlier—Restrictive Word. The affected target would suffer from a mild and temporary imposed limitation.
When he told Rey to become slower, the latter was supposed to decrease in speed.
Davin even spent the upper limit of Ether allowed for that Sequence just to increase the rate of speed decrease.
Imagine his shock when nothing happened.
Since he could no longer hold confidence in Binding Technique, he decided to rely on his specialty: Projection Technique 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
This is the opposite of Binding Technique, as it grants qualities or powers through verbal or written declaration.
His Sequence 9: Minor Imbue offered him small beneficial enhancements, which gave him a boost in physical prowess.
Now, he had just activated Sequence 8 and Sequence 7 at the same time.
The former added a new trait for him temporarily, giving him an attribute he didn’t previously have.
For example, if he needed to breathe underwater or climb walls, he could develop these qualities for a limited period. It wasn’t an omnipotent power, but it had immense utility in terms of variety.
As for Sequence 7: Quality Enhancement, it improved all existing capabilities.
’Since I have now added poisonous secretion as my new attribute, using Sequence 7 will not only increase the potency of my poison, but will also make me faster and stronger.
Davin’s confidence soared.
He was certain he would defeat Rey, so he secreted as much poison as he could from his sweat gland and sprayed it on Rey.
WHOOSH!!!
Rey evaded the first round, but Davin turned into a blur and appeared behind him for another attack.
His first attempt was only a feint anyway.
One that Rey fell for.
The poisonous sweat finally sprayed all over the target’s body, covering him in incredibly toxic liquids that would paralyze anyone immediately.
But Rey was no ordinary person.
He could last for a few minutes this way.
’Not enough...’ Dissatisfied with this outcome, Davin continued to spray the poison.
Some landed, some did not.
He even spat out all his saliva at Rey, although that one was dodged.
Still, since he was now much faster and stronger than before, he was finally able to go for a finishing strike.
’Now!’
WHOOOSH!!!
He lunged forward with breakneck speed, piercing Rey in a fatal position with his poison-coated dagger.
Instant paralysis took control.
Toxins sprayed in all kinds of directions.
’It’s over...’ A broad grin formed on his face as he sank the weapon deep into Rey’s chest.
’I win!’
