Extra's Revenge: Reincarnated As A Slave-Chapter 39: Kindness (Part 2)
"What...?"
Alistair had several emotions coursing through him: rage, shame, desire, frustration, but the most intense of all...
... Was confusion.
’Why is she going so far for a lowly slave?’
He could not comprehend it.
"You heard me. I asked what you would do if I refused!"
"You would really defy me just to save a single slave? Do you not care about the consequences your action will bring?"
"Haha!" Amara laughed even louder. "Is that your true intention for coming here? To oppress my Desgarron Family, or perhaps... to take us down?"
At this point, Alistair’s expression changed.
He became more solemn.
"Do not joke about such matters. Why would I do something like that?"
"Oh? You won’t? Then what could your intention be for coming unannounced tk our Estate when we are at our most vulnerable? Hmm?" Amara smirked. "Could it be that you wish to kill me?"
"Stop talking like that! Why would I even do that? You’re going too far!"
"No! You’re the one going too far!"
"...?"
"Weren’t you the one who said you would kill my big brother? Or have you forgotten?"
Alistair’s eyes widened at that moment.
He remembered...
Back when Augustus tried to plead for the slave’s life, he had threatened to kill him so the Young Master would back off.
’I was very angry back then, and I clearly didn’t mean it in the literal sense. But...’ Alistair’s gaze became even fiercer as he glared at Amara.
’... She’s twisting it to suit her narrative.’
"Your Cheshire Family is higher than ours, but that doesn’t give you the right to oppress us like this, even threatening to kill my brother... all because of a slave."
"You..."
"Is that how little you value the Code of Nobility that binds us all together?"
Alistair was silent.
’This girl, she has completely warped everything. Now if I pursue the matter, it will make me seem like the unreasonable one!’
After all, it was true that he came unannounced and used his authority to get away with many things. Many of the things could be considered bullying, but they fell within the acceptable range.
Even if he killed Rey, no one would have really cared.
But he messed up.
’I carelessly threatened Augustus in his own home. That was too far. Amara must have been overhearing everything and so she used this as an opportunity to cause trouble for me. This was all her scheme. Unless...’
Alistair glanced at the stunned Augustus for a moment before shaking his head.
’No. He’s too stupid to conceive something like this. Looks like it was all her planning and execution.’ He narrowed his gaze on the barely alive slave and scoffed.
’She only used him as a prop to further aggravate me. There’s no need to escalate matters just because of a slave...’
Although he didn’t want to admit it, Alistait had to concede on this matter.
He had been bested.
By a sixteen year old girl for that matter.
"Fine. I’ll be taking my leave now. I also won’t pursue this matter beyond this, and I hope we can forget what happened here."
At this point, Alistair tried his best to be as civil as possible, his tone even appearing sincere.
He knew the Desgarron Family were at the bottom of the Noble Hierarchy and could not hold a candle to the Cheshire Family. But, his actions here could cause him some troubles if it were to be leaked to the right sources.
He didn’t want to have to deal with such problems, especially if it was all due to a nameless slave.
Thus, he had to extend this olive branch.
"Of course."
Amara smiled at Alistair sweetly, her expression also showing sincerity.
Although she was seething with rage that he had treated Rey the way he did and almost killed him, she held back those emotions.
It wasn’t just Alistair she was upset with.
’Stupid big brother!’ She cast a sideways glance at Augustus, whose gaping mouth had yet to close.
’This is how you handle things. You can’t keep lowering your head to these people. This is why you can’t be the Young Lord of our Household. It isn’t simply due to your talent. It’s your problematic mindset!’
Why was it that he, the Master, could not properly protect his own slave?
One could justify it by calling Rey property.
But was he so indispensable?
Right now, this property was the greatest asset that Augustus owned. If he could let him go so easily under the slightest bit of pressure, wouldn’t he also concede the interests of the Desgarron Family just as easily?
The 24 Noble Households of the Nether Realm were not united at all!
There was constant conflict of interests.
If they had such a weak-willed Young Lord and ultimately Head of Household, the Desgarron Household would be ultimately doomed and they would shrink to even lower proportions compared to their current state.
Amara could not allow that.
’You are a shame to our family, big brother!’
She silently scoffed, walking away with Rey who floated right next to her.
She no longer bothered with Alistair and Augustus, already recognizing what would happen after she left.
Alistair would leave without causing much of an incident, while Augustud would lash out at his servants who compensate for his ruined image and bruised ego.
Transferred aggression—such was his style. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
’As for me...’Amara cast a glance at the sleeping Rey and her hardened expression softened considerably.
’I’ll have to watch over this guy.’
Although her relationship with this slave started fairly recently, she felt an unexplainable connection with him.
Although talentless, he was competent, unlike her brother. He was mature, unlike most people her age. He was interesting, unlike most adults.
Just like her... he was special.
She liked him for that, and for other reasons.
’You surpassed my expectations...’ Caressing his cheek, she felt her eyes growing moist and her lips quivering quietly.
’Joint Technique... To think you already reached such a level.’ She couldn’t believe her excitement.
Rey simply had too much potential for growth.
’I can’t let you continue like this!’
