Extra's Revenge: Reincarnated As A Slave-Chapter 32: Rey Vs Bad Boy
"The time has finally come!"
The announcer’s voice echoed on stage as the venue lit up with cheers of excitement.
In the large arena were two very different people—both of whom had the same expressions on their faces.
Cold ruthlessness!
Both Rey, who had a black sleeveless shirt that clung tightly to his body, as well as deep gray shorts, as well as his opponent.
—Bad Boy!
An extremely tall man with a perfectly balanced physique and neatly trimmed beards. He had dark blue hair, with his eyes flashing with ominous light.
Most importantly, he did not have the appearance of a ’boy’.
He was a full-grown adult, with bulging muscles and a lean body for utmost flexibility.
"Cursed Boy versus Bad Boy... the match we have all been waiting for since the challenge was given ten days ago!"
Rey sighed once he heard those words.
A week had passed since Rey had told Amara about the Supremacy Challenge and she agreed to help him with his training.
They did all they could during that period, and Rey tempered all his skills to their utmost.
However, even that felt like insufficient time.
He still felt inadequate.
’But...’ He cast his gaze on the gloves he had on and kept his expression cool.
These gloves were his new Artifacts.
’They amplify my energy and also convert my Ether to raw strength. I can use this to improve the reach of my Techniques, which should help in long-range battles. In terms of melee, I can use them to exchange blows and hopefully send my energy penetrating into my opponent’s body so I can affect them.’
Of course, these were subject to the actions and abilities of the enemy.
Especially the last one.
Directly affecting an opponent with a Technique was easier said than done.
They had to be unprepared, weakened, or simply have much less Ether than him if he wanted to achieve this result.
But Bad Boy was none of those.
He had more than enough experience to never be caught off guard by something so elementary, and his pool of energy was by no means inferior to Rey’s own.
In fact, it was higher.
Finally, most of Rey’s cards had already been exposed in the Coliseum, so Bad Boy wouldn’t underestimate him.
He wouldn’t give him any opportunities at all.
’That’s why this is a battle of speed!’
Rey was sure.
He could never win a drawn out battle with this person. He was also certain that Bad Boy was not interested in a drawn out fight.
That wasn’t his style, and he also wasn’t going to let Rey adapt to his moves.
Thus—
’This fight will be quick and intense. The first to land the first solid blow will have the advantage, and things will likely snowball from that point.’
Rey had his hidden cards.
The Reversal Technique hadn’t been exposed to these people yet.
But—
’My opponent knows the Inverse Technique from Chaos Art and the Pulse Technique from Spirit Art...’ He swallowed silently. ’It won’t be easy!’
But when has life ever been easy for Rey?
Never!
Perhaps he had some reprieve in his old world, but it was all destroyed.
Ever since he had reincarnated, Rey had been met with hardships after another, always having to solve them with his utmost effort.
If he failed, he would die.
It was that simple.
’Okay...’ After exhaling loudly, Rey crouched slightly and prepared himself for the sound.
He noticed his opponent was also ready.
"BEGIN!"
Once Rey heard the sound, he charged away from his opponent and retreated. This seemed contradictory, considering the way he envisioned the fight happening.
But he wasn’t foolish.
He could use Inverse Technique to switch his direction and gain the advantage rather easily.
In fact, his opponent knew this.
Which was why he wasn’t going to resort to that.
Instead, he kept retreating as he watched Bad Boy charge forward with his body coated in bright lightning.
This wasn’t the effect of a Technique but an Artifact. The Artifact offered him passive protection through the electrical field around him, while also amplifying his Pulse Techniques anytime he used them.
Pulse Technique—
It involved the use of electrical and vibrational authority to affect matter, nerves, and laws. Of course, in the lower to mid sequences, only matter and nerves were of concern.
Even then, this was an especially dangerous technique. It was brutal because of its effects on the target.
"Pulse Technique #8: Pulse Arc!"
An electrical burst suddenly flew towards the retreating Rey, who used his Inverse Technique to break it down from the inside out
But this was a trap.
After all, the Technique was a layered one.
Rey had only managed to break down one component while the second one was still targeting him.
It also wasn’t Pulse Arc.
It was Sequence 7: Shock
’This particular move disrupts biological control.’ Rey’s eyes widened as he stared at the incoming attack. ’He wishes to paralyze me and use that chance to instantly close the distance and finish me off.’
Once again, Rey used his highest Sequence Inverse Technique.
"Inverse Technique #6: Internal Collapse!"
The burst of electrical pulse once again began to collapse before reaching him, leaving Rey panting.
Using two mid-Sequence moves consecutively, with no space at all in between, had its drawbacks.
But it was worth it, since the Technique had been taken care of.
However...
"Hehe!"
Bad Boy’s eyes brightened at this point.
... How could a veteran not have thought of something like this?
Once the Sequence 7 Technique collapsed, another ability manifested. It was hidden within ’Shock’ and was now exposed once the outer layer had vanished.
This was even more frightening than Sequence 7: Shock.
It was Sequence 6.
... Control!
"I’ve got you now!" Bad Boy grinned, certain of his victory.
From the beginning, he had triple casted and layered each ability in a sequential order—from strongest to weakest.
Pulse Arc was at the topmost layer.
Shock was at the middle layer.
Control was at the final layer.
This was a specialized move known as stacking, and it was an especially difficult thing to achieve.
Not only would one need to balance the various energies, which were distinct in intensity, but you also had to cloak the Techniques under the outer layer so they weren’t exposed.
Such a sophisticated move was only largely seen among exceptional commoners or Nobles.
How could a slave use something like this?
It had never been done before!
But so what?
There were no rules against it, and it simply showed the determination of Bad Boy’s Master to get rid of Rey.
’Fascinating...’ Despite seeing a Sequence 6 move headed directly towards him, Rey remained perfectly calm.
’Not only did he triple cast, which should have immense strain on his body, but he even stacked those abilities and hid them so well within each other. I guess veterans truly are a different breed.’
This was clearly trouble.
Yet why wasn’t Rey showing any sign of distress?
Well... wasn’t it obvious?
The crazy bastard already expected something like this from the start!
’It’s a good thing I trained extensively with someone as insane as Amara. After a week, it would be even stranger if I didn’t witness her use stacking even once.’
A small smile formed on Rey’s face.
The mask of exhaustion he had on slowly began to slip off, revealing a completely confident demeanor.
At that point it felt like time had slowed down.
But no.
It was just that Rey’s thoughts were moving at lightning speed.
He quickly lifted his hands as the blast was about to strike him.
Pulse Technique #6: Control.
It overrode the nervous system and fried the nerves, even allowing the caster to control the bodily functions of their target.
It was different from ’Shock’ which merely shut down the nerves.
This was an absolutely brutal move.
Yet Rey had both of his hands outstretched.
Fearless!
Resolute!
He was determined to win!
’Normally, a lower Sequence Technique cannot win against a higher Sequence one. But if you add enough Ether and overwhelm the opposing Technique’s Ether composition, it is possible to affect it.’
He stared at the incoming "Control."
’Because you stacked the Techniques and did your best to mask them, the Ether quantity they possess has been shrunk to their minimum threshold. It’s the only way you could have also successfully stacked three Techniques without them collapsing on each other due to their difference in energy.’
Rey knew all these things well.
Which was why he also understood that what he was about to do would work.
"Reversal Technique #7: Effect Betrayal!"
In that instant, great amounts of energy surged from his own body and were sent into his hands.
The gloves amplified their effects, creating an explosive surge of powerful lights.
Then—
The Sequence 6 Technique was actually sent back to its originator!
"Control" returned to the charging Bad Boy, who was certainly not expecting such an outcome.
Now, one would hope that the passive defense of his Artifact would protect him from this sudden attack.
Bit... no.
The lightning cloak amplified the effects of the Pulse Technique.
Thus, "Control" was elevated to an even greater extent once it collided with Bad Boy’s body, immediately immersing him in the brilliant sparks like fireworks.
"Arghhhhh!!!"
Bad Boy screamed in pain, but found himself unable to let out a sound after only a second.
Instead, he felt his body being pulled towards Rey. Due to the effects of Control, despite being conscious, he had lost control over every facet of his body.
He could only helplessly watch as the distance between the two of them shrank and Rey clenched his fist.
’You fool! Even if I’m like this, do you think you can touch me? My Lightning Cloak has resistance against Inverse Technique Interference, and it would definitely assault you if you come in contact with it!’ Bad Boy’s thoughts managed to scream despite the overwhelming pain assailing him.
But... who was Rey?
Why would someone like him not consider this exact situation?
"Reversal Technique #9: Minor Inversion!"
Rey sent his fist flying towards Bad Boy, pouring all his strength and energy into that attack.
What exactly was Minor Inversion.
It sounded similar to Minor Flip from the Inverse Technique, and it was also of the lowest Sequence in the Reversal Technique
Something like that surely seemed unimpressive.
But—
’Minor Inversion causes small reversals in outcomes. Rather than feeling major pain or damage from attacking you, I will only experience dull sensations.’
The more the energy consumed, the more powerful a Technique was.
Thus—
’By pouring all my usable energy into this Technique and also using the leftovers to feed my Artifact, not only do I have a defense of my own, but my offense is maxed out.’
—Rey felt no need to hesitate.
WHOOOSH!!!
His blow traveled the short distance and collided with his target to make a loud noise.
Brilliance scattered everywhere.
Bad Boy’s head burst like a watermelon, spreading heated gore all over the vicinity.
The splashes of blood accompanied the exploded lights, all of them sparkling in unison as the world around became drowned in Rey’s brilliance.
Undisputed victory... It was all Rey’s!
Despite using up so much power, Rey didn’t even stagger or fell short of breath. His hair was a little roughened, but he straightened it, ignoring the blood that had stained his body.
At that moment, he had the appearance of an indomitable demon.
Absolutely terrifying!
"Amara was right..." Rey muttered, his voice subtly ringing in the perfectly silent hall.
Only the heavy thud of Bad Boy’s body echoed across the stage as it hit the ground.
No one said anything.
They could barely even breathe.
Only Rey let out a sigh and finally spoke after a long period of silent contemplation.
"Perhaps I overestimated him a little."
[A/N: For those wondering when the MC will get his golden finger or stop being a slave, I implore you to be a little more patient. The story gets really interesting from this point on. I promise you that.]
