Chapter 167: Her Thoughts freeweɓnovel-cøm

Her heart was in pure turmoil; she didn’t understand why. It was the first time in a long time, she felt so emotionally unstable, unable to contain them, letting her fragile emotions escape into her eyes by the taunts of a worthless and pathetic weak man. Someone she could swat down like a fly, and he wouldn’t even know how he died.

Did he think he was something important just because she requested a weapon from him? Why was she feeling like this? Why was she even thinking things like this? The fact that she was giving the man that much thought itself was concerning. She almost visibly gritted her teeth, and slowly and forcefully she erased all thoughts about the man from her head.

And just as she was about to solidify the position of that man in her mind as someone insignificant and likely a small pawn-like character, she was interrupted. Her senses picked up a certain someone who had just entered the periphery of this area. The figure came closer and closer and closer. Until the golden-haired prince was revealed, the silver moonlight shone on his golden hair and light red, ruby-like like enchanting eyes.

The man was utterly and undoubtedly the most handsome male among all the prestigious students of the academy. He was the absolute definition of Prince Charming of every girl’s dreams, the personification of a knight in shining armor. But that rarely mattered to the valkyrie; appearance was worth nothing to her.

The prince looked at her for a moment. She was still gazing towards the ocean, looking from behind, her lean and curved figure covered in that beautiful pitch black dress, as her long black hair danced in the gentle breeze in the presence of the moonlit night. No skin was shown from her dress, only her pristine white hands.

Even though because of the dragon bloodlines influence in him, he was completely unaffected by the enchanting beauty of Sophia Evercrest. But still, a part of him could not help but be simply mesmerized by her impossibly divine figure that almost melted into the starless sky of the moonlit night.

A strange emotion wanted to be born in his heart for an unknown number of times, simply looking at her, but the pride in his dragon blood destroyed any trace of such emotions, and only pure appreciation remained in the eyes and mind of Lucien, looking at her. He sighed and walked forward, standing right beside her.

Reaching right beside her, he glanced at her divine face, and again his heart moved, looking at that holy face, illuminated by moonlight, some sparks of the concentrated moonlight reflected back from the water she was standing right next to. The water rippled for some unknown reason, and the moonlight flickered on her face even more.

An almost dark emotion wanted to take over him, a desire to possess her. But again it vanished, she finally turned towards him, she looked at him coldly, to which he only smiled and asked, "So? how did it go?"

Sophia continued to look at him coldly. She could tell the prince was trying to divert the topic. She could also sense from the beginning the gaze of his, but it was a gaze without lust, more like appreciation. Even so, she didn’t like it. But she wouldn’t call him out for that reason. After all, she was extremely grateful to him.

From the moment she was summoned, she was exploited as a shining trophy, there were multiple times she was about to be married to the first prince, but it was Lucien and Lumina who always protected her in that cruel royal palace, where she had no actual political power to stand up for herself, to do anything. Regardless of how valuable a trophy she was, she was also a slave, a slave of the king, whom she could not disobey.

It was Lucien and Lumina’s mother who always did her best to protect them from the hungry hyenas wearing the face of the human, and it was before she entered the trial, when she was weak, she was pathetic, she was fragile, as her emotions would show all over her face. Eventually, to survive that hell, she became cold, cruel, and strong.

Terrifyingly strong for her level, one would say. And Lucien also always sided with her and helped her in many troublesome situations, even if it was to get her on his side; she was grateful for it nonetheless, as he never pressured her to side with him or anything.

Then she went through the greatest soul-shattering torture of her life within the trial. Lucien’s mother only asked for one thing in exchange for helping her as much as possible, even going out of her way to help her, even if she got implicated by it badly. She made Sophia promise that she would always look after Lucien and Lumina. To protect them when she was strong enough.

Though Lucien was someone extremely strong as well, so he didn’t even need any protection from her, you could say. But regardless of any of that, compared to Lucien’s gaze towards her, which held appreciation, that man’s gaze towards her only contained wariness and discomfort, maybe? She wasn’t completely sure about it. There wasn’t even a tiny bit of appreciation or attraction towards her in Axel’s eyes.

But the last time she met him, there was clear lust in his gaze. So, what happened, what changed? Meanwhile, Lucien, who saw her expression change at that question of his, felt puzzled. He wondered if he had ever seen so many emotions flash through her eyes in such a short amount of time. For a moment, he felt disturbed, very disturbed perhaps, and an unpleasant feeling washed over him. She couldn’t be thinking about that bastard, could she?

No, that’s not it, there is no reason for her to even feel emotion towards that guy, he’s likely simply not worth it in her eyes. So, what happened exactly? After a few seconds, Sophia realized she had again started thinking about the man; she almost gritted her teeth in frustration, but that gesture didn’t escape the eyes of Lucien, who almost frowned at that. Lucien, seeing her not answer him, asked again, "Are you ok?"

She finally seemed to have broken out of her immersed internal thoughts, the 2 questions asked by Lucien finally registered on her mind, she did not answer his 2nd question, but addressed the first one,

"He is indeed a very unpleasant person, very uncooperative and hard to get along with, I would say." Unknowingly, annoyance seeped out of her voice.

Again, Lucien tilted his head, unable to understand what was going on. Again, that unlikable emotion surfaced in his heart; he almost felt angered, and he didn’t like it. Why was she expressing so much emotion while thinking or talking about that pathetic bastard?

Despite the raging negative emotions within Lucien, his expression outside remained that of pure confusion. Sophia also realized that she was expressing too much of herself in her voice and face. She fixed it immediately as her face became expressionless and her eyes hid all her emotions, her tone also became neutral.

Seeing that Lucien’s emotions somewhat calmed down, he asked her again with a smile,

"So, what happened exactly?"
