Extra And MC-Chapter 87 - 83 - Two Seniors
"Derek!"
Aiden and Flynn stopped jumping between the branches when they heard Derek’s name being called.
They stared at each other, wondering if they had mistaken the name being called for another name that sounded quite similar but once again, they heard the female voice call out to him again, this time with a bit more frustration in her voice.
"Derek!!"
Confirming they weren’t having auditory hallucinations, both brothers decided to take a short detour and head over to where the voice was coming from out of sheer curiosity.
Upon getting there, they were met with a comical sight.
Between two of the many ancient tall trees that made up most of the whispering grove was a hammock rocking back and forth, Derek comfortably lying in it with his palms placed behind his head and his legs crossed.
Just beneath him was a lady with waist long blonde hair whose face Flynn and Aiden couldn’t get a look at.
"Derek!!!" the lady shouted his name this time, her tone of words visibly dyed in frustration.
The brown-haired youth who was called however, merely opened one of his eyes and glanced down at her, after which he then spoke.
"Oh hey Sophia... you’re back…"
"Also, that’s ’Senior Derek’ to you, you bratty junior" he added casually, his eyes closing as he settled back into the comfort of the rocking hammock.
"Maybe when you actually act like a senior and do your job properly, I just might consider respecting that sorry excuse of a title that was bestowed upon you!" she snapped back.
Despite this, Derek seemed to not care for her words as he waved one of his hands in dismissal.
The blonde-haired lady at this point had a vein pop on her forehead and without skipping a beat, she raised her hands and used a spell by snapping her fingers.
"[Sound Series: Frequency Burst]!"
An invisible wave of energy suddenly cascaded across the whispering grove.
Following this, Aiden and Flynn along with Derek felt a disruption in their sense of balance for a few seconds and they all fell to the ground with heavy thuds, Derek rolling over from his hammock and onto the moss-covered ground.
-Thud! Thud!
-Thud!
Although they had all used mana sense, it was as if whatever the spell it was the lady had used, completely bypassed anything they could have possibly tried to use to stop it.
The lady who was surprised by the falling sound of two other people a few meters behind her, quickly turned her head around to spot the two youths.
Aiden and Flynn on the other hand, immediately tried to get up from the ground, their motions wobbly as they struggled to stand up properly.
As they did, they suddenly heard the lady who had used the spell on all three of them, ask them a question with a tone of surprise.
"Are you by chance Aiden and Flynn?!" she inquired, her ocean-blue eyes sparking with excitement, a stark contrast to how she had been dealing with Derek.
"It really is you!!!" she declared, swiftly running over to them and pulling the heads of both brothers who were still very confused about the whole ordeal, close to her plump bosom with a sisterly hug.
"Oh I’ve wanted to meet you guys for the longest time! Dad talks so much about you two!" she stated with a happy tone whilst still hugging both of them.
Flynn and Aiden in response to her sudden gesture, began to tap on her arms instead, indicating that she was choking them with her big boobs.
"Oh! I’m so sorry about that guys…" she apologized while releasing her strong grip on both brothers, who in turn began to gasp for air while asking themselves a similar question.
’Who is she?!’ they wondered.
"Ouch… Dammit Sophia! I was just taking a nap!" Derek threw an annoyed glare at the lady while standing up from the ground, simultaneously dusting green moss from his red blazer.

"That’s what you get for evading your responsibilities you useless third year!" she replied bluntly.
Almost immediately, she spoke to Flynn and Aiden gently while asking them.
"Are you guys alright now?" she asked, concern present in her voice.
"Yeah…" Aiden responded while Flynn just nodded his head, his hands lightly patting his ear as if to restore his sense of equilibrium fully.
Upon finally getting their wits together, Flynn and Aiden took in the features of the lady before them.
Milky white skin, waist long blonde hair, an innocent looking yet exceedingly beautiful face with ocean-blue eyes, a small nose along with small pale-colored lips which currently had a gentle smile nestled on it.
"I know what you’re both wondering…" Derek calmly pitched in to both Aiden and Flynn while walking over to Sophia and staring down at her dead in the eye.
"Her name’s Sophia Rothstaylor…" Derek said, still glaring at the mid-heighted lady below him who was reciprocating the same gaze he was giving her.
"The bane of my existence and also, Sebastian Rothstaylor’s daughter" he concluded with a slightly pissed expression.
Flynn and Aiden had their eyes widen at this new information and almost immediately, they asked in bewilderment.
"Uncle Baz has a daughter!" Flynn questioned
"How come we never knew of this?!" Aiden inquired next, both of them still finding all of this new information very surprising.
"Well to be fair, I have spent most of my life at Flenor Islands with mum…" Sophia replied shortly with a giggle.
The lady then turned around and gave Derek a condescendingly smug smile.
"And you can utter that statement again Derek!"
"I truly am the bane of your existence!" she declared.
"I mean, seriously, I only went to visit my mother at Flenor Island for a month and you already wreaked enough havoc with that entrance exam and also, neglected a lot of your responsibility as part of the academic planning committee" she suddenly began to scold him.
"What kind of assistant would I be if I couldn’t at least force you to do your duties?! You literally just got to that position and you’re already neglecting your duties!" she concluded in exasperation.
"For the record, I still never accepted that position! Vice Principal Senya forced it upon me" he said while rolling his eyes in annoyance again.
"And you should already know, once she decides on a cadet, it means she believes said cadet is best suited for that role" Sophia explained as if she was speaking to a brick wall, after which she then added a few more words.
"Seriously, would it kill you to not be a menace or a troublemaker for a single day?"
"Unfortunately, yes!" Derek answered bluntly to which Sophia just sighed in resignation at.
Aiden and Flynn just watched the entire interaction play out between both of their seniors, one a third year with a red blazer and the other, a second year with a gray blazer who was also someone they were still coming to terms with how she came to be.
What was even more interesting to both Aiden and Flynn was how they were actually getting the chance to interact with not just a senior, but two seniors of theirs.
First year at Arcana Academy was when general classes were made compulsory for all cadets.
However, starting from the second year, classes begin to diversify and most senior cadets were rarely found on the campus, and mostly at Section 3, with the exception of the campus’s quest board room.
By the third year, cadets usually spend most of their time on-field as either trainees for various positions at the Tower or at various guilds who were willing to scout them.
In fact, there was even a joke that the academy’s campus was only built for first years to mingle with themselves and get to know each other.
That joke was not unfounded.
"But you guys, you sure are amazing aren’t you?" Sophia finally said after leaving Derek alone.
"Your performance at the entrance exam was outstanding! Dad truly was not exaggerating when he said you two were literally in a league of your own" the blonde-haired lady added with a beaming smile.
"Thanks Senior Sophia" Aiden and Flynn responded with genuinely grateful smiles.
"You’re welcome!" she replied happily.
"See Derek. Act like a senior and you’ll get treated like a senior" the blonde lady suddenly threw a few words at Derek with another smug grin.
Derek in response to her words, just let out a scoff.
"Oh and lest I forget, my dad, sends his greetings to you two" the lady quickly added while gesturing to Flynn and Aiden, her expression swiftly shifting into a warm smile, both brothers reciprocated along with a curt nod.
Having said this, Sophia turned to Derek again while addressing him.
"So, you still planning to join the Tower Derek?" Sophia asked after which she then continued.
"Dad says you’ll make a splendid ranker!"
"Well it’s still up there for now…" the youth in question responded calmly, after which he then switched his attention to Aiden and Flynn.
"What exactly are you guys doing here at the whispering grove?" he asked.
"We should be asking you the same thing…" Aiden answered with an inquiry of his own.
"Wasn’t it obvious enough? I clearly came here to evade my responsibilities" the youth answered with a casual shrug, his expression seemingly stating how genuinely obvious it was.
Sophia tried to give him a perfect gut punch but almost as if he had expected it, he evaded it effortlessly.
He then gave her a smug smile of his own to which Sophia just shook her head in resignation at.
"So, what are you guys doing here again?" Derek questioningly asked for a second time curiously.
"Searching for Lakelight blossoms" Flynn calmly replied to his question.
"Isn’t that quest a tad bit below your actual skills?" Derek asked with an arched eyebrow.
"Change of pace" Aiden answered casually.
"Hmmm… well, I can understand that. Fetch quests are a nice change of pace when compared to either killing roaming fissure monsters or mutated ones in the Darkwoods of Sector 3… or mining ores in the crystal caverns" Derek nodded his head.
"That’s enough talking Derek! Back to work! Now!" Sophia commanded, her hands on her curvy hips while speaking to the youth.
"Fine… It’s not like I have had any other choice from the moment your annoying ass showed up…" Derek answered with a tired sigh and began to take his leave.
Sophia glared at him due to the choice of words he used but without even minding her piercing glare that seemed to be drilling a hole into the back of his head, Derek spoke again.
"You can find the blossoms near the lake. Pretty easy to spot" he casually added while waving his hands as he walked off.
"Sorry guys! Hopefully next time, when we have fewer duties to attend to, we can converse about a lot of things at length" Sophia also added with a wave of her hands to both youths, her face adorned with a beaming smile.
As both brothers watched them walk off into the distance while leaving the forest, Flynn spoke up.
"Well, that was a fun experience… meeting Uncle Baz’s daughter and also seeing Derek willingly leave after being persuaded…"
"Yes it was…" Aiden responded and soon enough, after a few more seconds, he and Flynn resumed their dash towards the lake.
Upon reaching said lake, just as Derek had told them, they spotted the lakelight blossom, an iridescent bulbous plant, which had a bulbous base that glistened with ever-changing shades of purple and vibrant greens, along with shimmering crystalline leaves, nestling by the tail edge of the lake.
’Hmm… this are actually quite beautiful’ Aiden thought to himself while uprooting the plant gently from its roots, immediately placing it in his spatial ring.
He and Flynn then uprooted about seven more each, which brought to a total of fifteen which was requested of them by the quest.
After that was done, Flynn and Aiden finally gazed at the lake, their expressions now completely serious.
Following this, both youths simultaneously activated their mana sense and spread it over the wide length of the watery surface of the lake, while simultaneously closing their eyes for an even deeper immersion.
Like a fresh acrylic painting coming to life, both youths peered into the aquatic life present beneath the lake.
From the perceived colored palette of small fishes whose scales glistened with iridescence to the slightly larger ones that gracefully swam, all the way to water nymphs present in the small reefs and occasionally jumping out and back into the lake, they could view it all despite not actually seeing it with their eyes.
However, that wasn’t what both youths were searching for so they kept at it and continued peering into the watery depths.
Soon enough, they noticed a fairly long vertical slit in space present at the very bottom of the lake which was situated in an underwater alcove, traces of mana gradually oozing from it.
Upon noticing this, both Aiden and Flynn opened their eyes, glanced at themselves for a few more seconds and then, let out a sigh of relief.
"Well at least it’s still C-rank and won’t be causing a break anytime soon…" Aiden said.
"Which means we’ll have to first drop an anonymous tip for now…" Flynn stated.
"But just to be on the safe side, we’ll also need to consider clearing it…" Aiden added.
"And to do that, we’re going to need a lot of funds…" he continued calmly.
"Well then… I guess it’s time we did that strange quest" Flynn declared, to which Aiden nodded in response at.
"That’s the fastest way to get a lot of credits within a limited period of time" the youth concluded.
