Chapter 582: Chapter 580 The Wise Wan An

"So you mean Richard’s identity is fake? Then why didn’t Master Guluo expose him?" Phil frowned.

"Expose him?" Wan An scoffed disdainfully, "That old hag Guluo—whether she’s dead or alive is still a matter of debate!"

"You mean, Richard killed Master Guluo?" Phil gasped, "Impossible, the strength of Master Guluo..."

"Stop talking about that old hag’s strength. Sure, she used to be very powerful, but how much remains now is anyone’s guess. After all, she’s gotten so old she doesn’t even look the part. It wouldn’t be surprising if she were killed by someone. And who knows, it might not even have been someone else; perhaps she simply died of old age."

"Then why would Richard pretend to be a student of Master Guluo? What’s the benefit of doing that?" Phil still found it hard to accept Wan An’s words, although he had similar suspicions. But when it actually came to voicing it out loud, it seemed there were too many flaws, "If Richard really is a villain, what’s his motive, and why has it never been shown? Don’t count your conflict with him at the conference as an example."

After listening, Wan An thought seriously for a moment and said, "At first, I thought that kid was a spy sent by some other Wizard Organization, wanting to cause destruction or steal some secrets. But it’s been so long and there’s been no action from the other side, which indeed is a bit unexplainable.

After all, if the other party really is a spy, not leaving after so long could only mean they’re either too stupid or too arrogant, thinking that no one suspects them.

But now, I think this exactly indicates how terrifying the other party is. They must be plotting something big, which is why they have been hiding under the guise of a Guluo student for so long. Only after we all recognize his identity will he reveal his true face, and who knows, he might try to overturn our entire gathering place, or even the entire Jungle Hut.

So right now, it’s true he seems harmless, but who knows about later? Are you willing to take that risk? Besides, my student Mars has already been harmed by him. Who knows if he has more moves to make? Do you really want to wait until a Spell hits you before you realize?"

"This!" Phil fell silent, not knowing what to say.

"That’s why we must take the initiative and pierce through his disguise!" Wan An declared loudly, his voice full of motivation.

Phil couldn’t help but ask, "Then what do you propose we do? Burst into his dwelling to see if Master Guluo is really alive or not and confront him face to face?"

"That’s definitely one way, but I wouldn’t do it so simply," Wan An said, his gaze sharp. "I admit, in terms of strength, I might not be able to handle that kid. But in terms of brains, he’s too young to be my match. I already have a plan, and as long as you help me carry it out according to plan, we can deal with that kid without lifting a finger, and we may even get most of Guluo’s legacy that’s rightfully ours."

Phil’s eyelids twitched upon hearing this, "Really, are you sure?"

"Of course I’m sure. Why else would I come to you?"

"How exactly do we do it?"

"Heh, don’t rush; just follow me," Wan An said and turned to walk out the door. Phil hesitated for a moment but eventually followed.

...

In the blink of an eye, several hours passed.

The night faded from deep to light, approaching the break of dawn.

After making some arrangement, Wan An and Phil appeared outside a rickety three-story wooden building.

Behind the two men stood a tall Black Robed Wizard. His name was Oer, and he was a High-level First-level Wizard, a solitary man, but he had some relationship with Wan An. Wan An had specifically called him as a trump card. That way, should the situation develop beyond their expectations, they would have a response.

Wan An stood in front of the wooden building, carefully contemplating the entire plan, making sure there were no flaws. Then, filled with confidence, he stepped forward.

With a loud "bang," Ken kicked open the door of the three-story wooden building and entered. Following Phil’s directions, they made their way into the underground space beneath the wooden structure.

In the underground space, Wan An looked around but didn’t find Richard. He frowned, and then his eyes caught something, prompting him to quickly walk toward a corner.

Reaching the corner, he found a mummified corpse. Wan An’s eyes lit up, and he quickly turned to shout at Phil and Oer, "Come over here quick, and see what this is!"

"What?" Phil and Oer, upon hearing him, walked over to where Wan An stood. Seeing the mummy, they couldn’t help but be shocked—it was indeed Master Guluo.

"Dead?" Phil exclaimed with a mixture of shock and doubt.

"Of course dead, and for quite a while too, by the looks of it. Though it has been treated to prevent decay." Wan An pinched the corpse’s face, quite certain of his assertion, "Hmph, I said it, that guy’s identity must have been fake, and now here’s your evidence!"

Oer glanced at the scene but didn’t say much, only reminding, "Don’t forget the share you promised after this affair is settled."

"Of course," Wan An agreed cheerfully.

"What do we do now?" Phil asked from the side.

"Obviously we search this place," Wan An said. "Looks like the guy isn’t here. He must have attacked my student and then fled out of fear. This is better for us. We’ll search thoroughly, take any good stuff for ourselves, and expose the kid’s true identity to everyone. We get to benefit without any risk—it couldn’t be better than this."

"Uh," Phil complied.

The three were about to begin when suddenly footsteps echoed from nearby.

Wan An, Phil, and Oer turned towards the sound and saw a small door in another corner suddenly open, with Richard stepping out from behind it. Through the gap, they could see what appeared to be a hidden chamber filled with numerous items.

Seeing Richard, the trio was momentarily startled. Then, Wan An’s gaze turned cold as he addressed Richard, "What’s this, kid, you’re not running away?"

"Run?" Richard looked at Wan An and asked, "Why should I run?"

"Why you say? Why should you run?!" Wan An spoke aggressively, "You killed Guluo; you are not really her student, you’re just a fake! How dare you stand there instead of running? Don’t you fear we’ll expose your true identity?!"

"Ah, that does sound quite reasonable; seems like I really should be running."

"That’s the way it is!" Wan An shouted, "Kid, let me tell you, this is your only chance. Get lost, I can’t be bothered to deal with you. But don’t even think about taking anything from here, this is all ours!

We will take the most treasured items here, and then tell everyone that it was you who stole them before. You already being a spy, small matters like these shouldn’t bother you; consider it compensation for disrespecting me at the exchange meeting."

Listening to Wan An, Richard responded, "That’s interesting. You actually covet Guluo’s inheritance enough to let me go."

"Guluo was the oldest wizard in this settlement, who knows how many treasures she amassed. What’s wrong with desiring her inheritance?" Wan An snorted coldly, "As for you, I just don’t feel like making a move against you, that’s all."

"Are you sure? Even though I embarrassed you at the exchange meeting and recently attacked your student, you still can’t be bothered to deal with me?"

"..." Wan An suddenly fell silent, his eyes narrowed slightly, realizing that Richard might just be a tiny bit smarter than he had imagined.
