Chapter 1439: Chapter 1437: Wrath of the High Spirit

A grey-robed wizard of third-level wizard status darted through midair in the Heavenly Pit, constantly changing directions to avoid the numerous tentacle attacks of the Energy Octopus. Yet ultimately, one of the tentacles caught up, lashing across the wizard’s body surface.

"Smack!"

Bright lights erupted from the wizard’s body surface, instantly shattering all three Energy Shields. With a "humph," the wizard spat out a mouthful of blood, his face pale as he crashed to the ground severely injured.

The rest of the wizards’ faces changed upon witnessing this sight, becoming acutely aware of the Energy Octopus’s power—having absorbed the attacks from so many of them without much harm, and able to easily incapacitate a wizard with a single strike, it seemed that, should the Energy Octopus unleash its full power, it could potentially eliminate any one of them instantly.

Witch Nora pursed her lips tightly, clutching a small vial of gray liquid in her hand, while Emerson’s expression also grew grim.

After gravely injuring one wizard, the Energy Octopus didn’t pursue for the finishing blow, instead whipping out a tentacle to wrap around the coffin where Chief Judge Theodore Vick lay, swallowing it whole.

Having accomplished that, all six tentacles straightened upward, turning crimson before fiercely stabbing, as if piercing into an unknown space. Then, with a mighty pull outward, a new "Space Hole" emitting white light appeared in the Heavenly Pit, into which the Energy Octopus leapt.

It turned out the Energy Octopus didn’t intend to kill everyone out of revenge; it merely wanted to retrieve what it desired and return. This transaction experience was unlike anything it had encountered before; aside from anger, wariness dominated, not wanting to linger longer to avoid unforeseen accidents.

However, just as the Energy Octopus was about to slip through the "Space Hole" to escape, the hundreds of "Giant Metal Needles" lining the pit’s edge suddenly glowed, densely firing milky-white beams directly at the "Space Hole."

"Puff"—the "Space Hole" was disrupted and evaporated.

"Thud!"

The Energy Octopus hovered midair, watching the "Space Hole" disappear, its body reaching the apex before plummeting heavily back to the ground. This time, it refrained from using Spirit Shock to vocalize and directly emitted a sharp, unknown screech.

"Aww—whoosh—"

Subsequently, the Energy Octopus directed all of the eyes on its tentacles towards the twelve wizards in the pit.

The eleven regular wizards and one severely injured wizard appeared somewhat tense, unsure if they could defeat and capture the Energy Octopus, uncertain whether to continue fighting or decisively retreat.

At this moment, a voice emerged from the command hall beside the pit, saying, "Target’s strength exceeds expectations by over 50%. Proceed with Plan Four; experimental personnel should leave. I will personally handle and capture."

Upon hearing this, the twelve wizards exchanged glances, hesitated no longer, and decisively flew out of the Heavenly Pit.

The Energy Octopus, naturally, wouldn’t consent, honing in on the severely injured wizard, swiftly catching up, and flicking out a tentacle.

As the injured wizard stood in peril, suddenly the Energy Octopus’s tentacle paused as if burned, retracting rapidly in alarm at the shadow appearing out of nowhere above its head.

The figure donned a light grey robe, young-looking with eyes that seemed to see through everything. Simply hovering in the air, they radiated the pressure of a mountain.

It was Richard.

Due to Richard’s arrival, the severely injured wizard managed to escape danger, departing the pit with Emerson’s crew. Standing at the pit edge, he exchanged a brief glance with Richard, lightly bowed as a gesture, then swiftly moved aside to attend to other matters.

Floating in midair, Richard withdrew his gaze from Emerson’s group and turned to the Energy Octopus curling its tentacles.

Spirit Shock transmitted, Richard addressed the Energy Octopus, "I know you’re angry that we violated transaction principles. However, you’ve consumed the transaction item, the sacrifice. According to logic, you ought to offer something in return."

"What... do you want?" the Energy Octopus replied warily.

"Very simple, let me research you for ten years," Richard stated. "Ten years is brief for a life form like you; I believe this is a fair trade."

"If it were fair, you wouldn’t have violated principles from the outset. Now I doubt the truth of anything you say!" the Energy Octopus replied bluntly. "From the start, your intent behind the sacrifice was to coerce me into an unfair transaction. I absolutely refuse to allow such a deal to proceed!"

"Whoosh!"

The Energy Octopus unfurled all its tentacles, lashing towards Richard.

Richard’s expression hardened, raising his hand as a purple Energy Shield more than a meter in diameter formed before him.

"Pop—pop—pop!"

The tentacles struck the Energy Shield’s surface, powerful enough to severely wound a Third-level wizard or even a Level 4 wizard; yet at this moment, cause only ripples on the Energy Shield.

Seeing this, the Energy Octopus realized Richard’s strength far surpassed the prior experimental personnel. The numerous eyes on its tentacles blinked in unison; hundreds of pupils reddened as fiery crimson light bearing the scent of sulfur erupted, fiercely blazing onto the Energy Shield.

"Crack!"

The Energy Shield trembled, cracks densely appearing, seeming unable to sustain. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

But just before breaking, Richard moved his feet, his entire being swiftly turning transparent. Seconds later, he reappeared already behind the Energy Octopus.

"Hoo—"

Richard exhaled lightly, raising his hands as golden light swiftly materialized between them, appearing to prepare a high-powered spell to inflict grievous harm on the Energy Octopus.

Perceiving danger, the Energy Octopus surprisingly didn’t hurry to retract its tentacles or turn around; instead, it lowered all its tentacles, exposing its entire body.

At the backside center of its trunk, amber energy suddenly parted, revealing an elongated, nearly meter-long massive eye.

The massive eye presented a gray-green hue, with an oddly dark red pupil, directly facing Richard, subsequently unleashing an energy burst filled with an ancient aura.

The air succumbed to imperceptible compression, emitting a low hum, while the solid ground of the pit sunk downwards. A nearby metal platform seemed to undergo centuries of wear in an instant; its surface turned rusted, its structure teetering. Amidst ear-piercing screeches, red rust-covered mechanical arms crumbled to the ground, breaking into pieces. Then with a "crash," the entire metal platform collapsed.

Closest to the affected Richard, his body stiffened, the golden light forming between his hands suddenly dimming, flickering several times before "puff," disappearing. Subsequent to which Richard seemed struck by some Spirit Shock, his eyes uncontrollably widening, his mouth opening into an ’O’ shape.
